This is exactly what I was looking for. RUclips is filled with videos of financial planning for retirement but not so much about life style, wellbeing and emotion adjustments. Thanks for sharing. Please keep it up. Thanks ❤
Great advice and fab ideas. I'm not retired yet, but 3 years max left to work for me. Maybe less....Since you were talking about volunteering when Ruby started barking, she was telling folks to go volunteer at their local animal shelter - Animal Care and Control - municipal, or a Humane Society or a rescue group. Fostering a dog or cat for a rescue group is super needed with so many pets who don't have homes. Then the person can help animals without a long term commitment. Win/Win! Love to listen to you both with your healthy advice. Making Taco Tuesday dinner now and am going to listen to more of your YT videos. Ruby is super cute and smart! Go volunteer and meet lots of like minded folks who love dogs, cats, and rabbits - oh my!
This episode was more comfortable to watch for some reason. Maybe because you were paying attention to interrupting? I feel like the Mrs. is trying to get the Mr. to focus and be brief and not repeat himself and in this video he was and she seems more relaxed and happy. Just my opinion 😊! I also felt more relaxed watching, so good job you guys. Congratulations on your new baby Ruby!
My wife and I have had a number of retirement discussions and have several plans in the works. We want to travel the country during the late winter and spring. The US is so vast and beautiful we will never run out of places to see. To that end we bought an RV early so we can do some shorter New England trips and work out the kinks, including determining our miniature schnauzer’s tolerance for travel. We plan to downsize from our 1400 sq ft house in the suburbs where there is no real public transportation to an apartment style condo just outside of Boston where will have easy access to transportation, our doctors, and to Boston (we rarely go into Boston because it’s a hassle from where we live). I like to putter in the basement so will need different hobbies so I started taking acrylic painting classes in September (the instructor suggested that I probably should have started with drawing classes but it’s working out fine). My wife’s hobbies are reading and crochet, and to a lesser extent counted crossstitch so she doesn’t need dedicated space and she can bring those with her on the road as well. I plan to take music lessons as well and in retirement will join a gym again; I was a group fitness instructor for 13 years but then my gym unceremoniously closed and there isn’t another good gym option close by. A couple of weeks ago we finally worked out retirement dates…I will retire at 60 1/2 in May 2025, and my wife will retire just shy of 60 in May 2026. Next up is letting go of family heirlooms and other clutter (we have a basement and attic full of stuff). We have let go of the wedding china that we actually used as our everyday dishes, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg! It’s exciting to have a date set and to be able to initiate the plan while we are in good health!
So I am watching this video, listening, thinking, nodding here and there, telling myself at times I can relate to that or I could respond to that. With that being said 65, still working because I want to (love my job) not drawing SS yet as I am financially stable and don't need to. Then my eyes lit up. There she was, the cutest little dog ever. I have 3 dogs, all rescues. They are my family. The one thing I can say is they love unconditionally. I know you are probably thinking " We do this video and he is going on about the dog" Well I love all animals, but my dogs are part of my family, just me I guess. With that being said retirement is getting closer, a lot sooner than later so it was a great video for me to watch, and I will be looking at more. I do agree that #20 should not be #20. Before anything else will work with others we have to be happy, just me I guess. Gosh Ruby simply rocks, and love the term Rubylicious lol. The Cajun Ninja's Dad"
Greetings from Aruba..,,,. Here with my wife’s siblings sharing great weather and great food. Love the new video and the new puppy. All your advice is right on target..
Great tips! During the pandemic, I started an online retail business so I could work from home as I was still a few years away from retirement. I assumed I'd be able to just stop once the world opened up again, but now it's generating significant income to supplement my retirement. Now I need to learn how to sell a business because my plan is to move overseas in 2024. My best tip...don't be afraid to keep changing and reinventing every few years. Even in retirement, the process of growing and learning doesn't stop.
Thank you both so much !!!!! I'm less than 90 days from the big day !!! I wrote down all of the 20 pieces of advice -- and your top 5 pieces of advice and they are going into my retirement notebook --- for safekeeping and to look back on them again in the future.
Important to give a lot of thought to a new pet if you plan on traveling a lot. Every time my husband and I take a trip we have to hire someone to care for our spoiled cat. 😅
LOVE YE 2....YE MAKE SO MUCH SENSE...2 MORO IS St Patrick's Day in Ireland. I WISH YOU BOTH AND YOUR FAMILIES A GREAT ONE.💚💚💚Jody I lu v ur hair and luv ur shirts Mark.....All the best ......
Me and my husband are in our 60s .we took retired from our own business last year .so I started doing volunteer job in senior people care home.but I don't find much satisfaction as expected. May be I m very organized and routine person.there I find so much disorders and staffs are talking more about their personal problems than duties. Should I discontinue to going there or ignore the rest and do my work
You two seemed pretty knowledgeable about retirement until you mentioned you listen to NPR podcasts for your news…. SMH …. gotta say goodbye to you guys . (Your pup, Ruby looks so sweet, you’ll enjoy having a dog.)
I prefer focusing on the “financial independence” part, not the “retirement”….
That certainly is important.

Thank you for watching! We truly appreciate it. Ruby is a lot of fun and keeps our hands full.
I have a retired friend that is involved in many charities
It’s social and enjoyable
I think if I stay put in one location I may do the same

And you have to be prepared for separation anxiety when you want to travel🙂
Separation from who? I suppose being away fro family, friends, and familiar surroundings can cause that.
