    Good lord that’ll get ya!
In lesser hands, La Cage could have been turned into a campy mess. To his credit - Arthur Laurent’s kept bringing everyone back to the central story: a family having a crisis. And who hasn’t experienced that? The fact that the show was such a massive hit out of town in Boston - one of the most conservative cities in America - speaks to the job that he, Jerry Herman & Harvey Feinstein did crafting what is in my opinion one of the truly great musical comedy’s of all time. You laugh, you cry and you walk away a little wiser too!
Thank you so much for posting this!!!

As a gay anthem, "I Am What I Am" is said not to have aged very well. But you should have seen, as I did, men leave the auditorium for the intermission (which was immediately afterward) with tears running down their faces.
