really enjoyed this tutorial especially seeing how you get the great mottling on the fabric and how the different fabrics take the dye. Thank you so much I will definitely watch this again when I am dyeing fabric.
Here it is 2 years later and I have just discovered Floss tubes (a bit slow on the uptake here). Thank you. This was an enormous help. I am tired to trying to find already dyed fabric for my projects. They are so expensive, too. I'm doing a gray for a snowy background and this was so helpful. Thanks. Yeah, Vodka helps!!!
Super-fun to watch you dyeing your fabric -- I totally "get" your technique of throwing a little in, changing ideas, trying something else. Your results were pretty, and now you've got me inspired to give it a try!
Hello! That was the best dyeing tutorial I have seen. I love "dirty" colours, I think you called it "Prim" you have given me the courage to have a go myself! Thanks so much!
Oh my gosh, what a great tutorial. I have to try this, think I'm going to Michaels tomorrow for the dyes. Might also stop at Costco for Vodka!!! Ha, ha, ha!! 😂. Thanks so much for taking the time to show us your techniques!
Today I watched your flosstube nr 31. Didn't know how I found your flosstubeaccount.... but when I saw this video I remembered. A few weeks ago I was interested in dying fabric... That's the first video of you I ever watched... I hope to experience with paint very soon... Thanx for sharing this video...
Thank you for this tutorial and for using the different fabrics. It was great visually to see how the fabrics take the colors! I am really excited to give this a try.
Brilliant! Have seen soooo many dyeing tutorials where I have felt too scared to give it a go - love your instructions and your obvious enjoyment is making me plan my trip to a craft shop tomorrow to pick up some fabric and dues: thanks for taking the time and effort to record all of this ❤️.
Great tute, Michelle! I want to come to your house and play and dye fabrics! Seriously, this was a really nice and easy way to introduce fabric dying. Thank you!
Thanks. Loved the tutorial. It's really not that difficult to dye. I enjoy throwing caution to the wind, being fearless & just mixing colors. It's so freeing....
I enjoyed the tutorial and learned a lot. I you aren't going to use it, I'd be glad to take it. If it's just going to sit in your stash. This was an excellent learning experience. Thank you.
Such a great tutorial! I dyed my first piece (28 count Monaco, originally antique white) with your Rit liquid tan and brown combo-really love the result! Thank you for the instructions.
Thank you so much for the tutorial! In the past couple of months I've been trying my hand at dyeing my own fabric and i've been so frustrated because i've been using the powdered dye and i've been left with red and blue spots every single time. I even would leave it to sit for like an hour in hot water thinking it would dissolve. I'm definitely going out this week and buying the liquid to try again, and hopefully the results will be much better! Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge and tricks. Your fabric looks fabulous!
a very practical and fun tutorial. i would stitch on all of those, i can see how dying fabric could be fun and addictive and not too messy if you're organized. thanks! :)
Great tutorial. Definitely feel confident in trying at least a two color piece. Glad you tried it with different fabrics to see how dye takes to them, big difference with the linen and Aida. Thanks for taking the time to prepare this tutorial!
Wonderful tutorial. I tea dyed some evenweave the other day and was disappointed cause there was no modling. I see what you did with bunching the fabric. I'm going back in to try that piece again. Thanks so much!
I loved this tutorial!! I just bought tan and brown dye last week to try my hand at dyeing my fabric and then today I saw this. Perfect timing!! I love prim samplers and fabrics, so those colors should be perfect. I was also gonna mention your adult beverage on the counter, but I see someone beat me to it. 😂😉 Thanks, Michelle, for another awesome video.
We have so much the same tastes in fabric. This was the BEST tutorial. I want to buy lots of linen and dyes and go to town. Maybe do a video of the escapades with Jim "helping". Haha. Seriously, I feel like you just opened a door of possibilities for me. I'm really excited about your Dark October fabrics. Squeeee!!! Lastly - the hands down best part of this video is the gigantic bottle of vodka living on the island. You're my kind of girl.
OMG...I totally made sure the vodka was out of screen when I started but I definitely got sloppy at the end. We buy our tequila super sized too! I don't know if want Jim helping unless there is a plan in place already to replace your counter tops!!! Good luck! Hahahah!!!
I absolutely love this one thank you! Fast-paced but advice and info rich with real life details! I run a small-medium ecommerce store with two RUclips channels (this one for kids, cakes and crafts) and one to complement my business. I work hard building my email list and driving traffic to my site from my videos. Thanks again, Sally x
Michelle - FANTASTIC tutorial. Just what I needed to see! I watched Confetti Stitchers tutorial which was similar - she used plastic grocery bags rather than the plastic containers. Your explanation and use of the containers and how to get the mottling was perfect . Thank you for taking the time and doing all the different fabrics - absolutely wonderful. Now you can partake of the vodka : ).
Thanks Becky, I'll have to check out Confetti Stitcher. That is a channel I didn't know about. I did partake of the vodka! Squeeze of lime and a little ginger beer to top it off!! Yummy!!!
Just found your videos! Love them! But I miss seeing videos 2 - 14. I can't find them. I will be watching and stitching while marathoning your videos! 💗💗💗
Thanks for clarifying that vintage pyrex bowl. When you hauled it out, my first thought was "Oh please don't use that bowl!!" But you didn't hear me and used it anyway. Sigh!! Thank you for the tutorial. I going to get me some Rit this afternoon and go to town!!
Thank you! Great and easy to follow tutorial. I watched again and dyed my first fabrics today. Tagged you on Instagram with a couple pics. Thank you again, great job!
I’m going to try this on Muslin for a Crabapple Hill embroidery fabric. I kind of want a very very lightly mottled pink fo a Valentine’s stitch. Thanks for the tutorial. Great video.
Fantastic tutorial!! I was ready to have a dyeing day when your video posted! Perfect timing! I tried a few pieces using your technique and, Wow!! Got some really great pieces. Not sure what design they will work for but I may have to step out of my comfort zone and just start stitching on them! Thanks!!
Hi I 💕 this video!!!! You did a wonderful job showing how to dye techniques!! Plus I love your northern accent!!! My mom is from South Dakota so it makes me feel right at home here in Oklahoma!!!🥰
Just came across this and am so glad I did. I have only tea dyed fabric so I am excited to try this. Thank you for the tutorial, it was very helpful. I bet the vodka could make dying even more fun! ( :
Thanks for taking the time to do this. I'm going to try my hand at some Halloween fabrics. You made it look so easy! I might try to do mine outside in case I make a mess. 😜
It really is as easy as it looks. I think the oranges are the funnest colors to play with. You can sprinkle a little gray, or black or purple and it will always turn out awesome!!
Thank you for this tutorial and deciphering the mystery of dyeing our fabric! I have been debating about tea and coffee dyeing vs rit dyeing and also using a touch of black (rit-dye) to make more vintage-looking.
Absolutely the best dyeing video. Thank you so much for taking the time to show us how. My question has to do with setting time. At one point you said to let the fabric sit for 30 minutes and then said a few minutes. So do you let the base color sit for 30 minutes before you rinse and then let the mottled over dye just sit for a few minutes? Also, what about using a spray bottle for mottling? Sorry for all the questions. Thank you❤️
That fabric is kickass! I don't have yucky old farm clothes so can I wear no clothes at all for this tutorial? The two Jos at the end are my favorite. Bananas and vodka at Michelle's house...party! xo
It's so much fun isn't it! I love experimenting with the shades. Since I had so much fabric dyed I decided to start dyeing floss. Lol some of mine pictured on my Instagram back pictures.
I'm gonna save this video for later use. I really liked how you had the camera overhead, so we could actually "see" what you were doing! I haven't tried dying my own fabric yet, but this is gonna be helpful. Dayyuum girl ... the vodka! LMAO I don't feel so bad about the tequila bottle on top of my fridge now or the tub of frozen margarita mix in my freezer ;)
We buy our booze at Costco. It's cheap but it's Grey Goose bottled under the Kirkland brand. We used to pay $40 a bottle for Patron Silver tequila. Now we buy the Kirkland brand for $20 and it's twice the size. The store manager told us that Costco won't confirm that it is actually manufactured by Patron but it is made and shipped in the Patron plant in Mexico. And it damn good. I'm too old for cheap booze!!!
I'm so excited to try this technique, i have 2 yards of 32ct lugana i can test with. Does evenweave dye more like the aida or the linen. Also does this dyeing technique make it colorfast or do you have to add something to do that?
Thank you so much for the tutorial! I watched it a few times and then dyed my own yesterday. It turned out great... but, my dark brown looks almost maroon when it dries. What did I do wrong? Does yours do that?
Thank you for your excellent tutorial! I tried 2 pieces, a monoco and a mcg Linen. The linen didn't get dark, like I was expecting (I had 2 tbs Royal in a cup of water- it looked like ink). Any ideas?
Wow, that's unusual. Normally the natural fibers really absorb the dye. It's the synthetic that don't pick it up as well. I assume you're using RIT? Did you look on their website for their formula? I find it is really spot on. I just looked it up and you should have gotten something really dark. Did you rinse your fabric really well in warm water first to remove the sizing? If you did all that then I would try a different brand of fabric or type of fabric and see if you get different results. I have not has luck with mcg linen in the past so I don't use it. I really limit what I use and use Zweigart as much as possible.
I'm so happy!! I found your channel after screwing up a large piece of Aida cloth after a bad tutorial. I tried to mottle dye with blues after tea and coffee dyeing. It didn't take at all! (guessing the acid in the tea and coffee messed with it?) I was about to give up and just order it online for a ridiculous price when I found this. Thanks so much! I'm about to run out and buy every Rit color.
really enjoyed this tutorial especially seeing how you get the great mottling on the fabric and how the different fabrics take the dye. Thank you so much I will definitely watch this again when I am dyeing fabric.
This was a great tutorial. I’ve done a little dyeing but always used boiling water, now I know I don’t have to. You made this so easy!! Thank you!
This was great! Thanks so much for taking so much time out of your busy life to share this information. I really want to try this.
I think I watched this when you actually posted but glad to find it again as I do a refresher. Thanks for keeping it available!

I bought Rit dye yesterday and thought I better watch a tutorial first...your tutorial is wonderful! Thank you for sharing.
Hello! That was the best dyeing tutorial I have seen. I love "dirty" colours, I think you called it "Prim" you have given me the courage to have a go myself! Thanks so much!
So fun! I dye yarn for knitting with acid dyes, but I'm a newish stitcher. You just opened up a whole new rabbit trail for me. Excellent tutorial.
Oh my gosh, what a great tutorial. I have to try this, think I'm going to Michaels tomorrow for the dyes. Might also stop at Costco for Vodka!!! Ha, ha, ha!! 😂. Thanks so much for taking the time to show us your techniques!
Don't forget a bottle of Tequila too! After all....it's Margarita season!!!
So helpful! I was doing it all wrong & now I can’t wait to try again
The fabric turned out amazing! Thank you so much for this tutorial, Michelle! You make it look so easy and less intimidating 😊
It is really easy. I promise!!

Great tutorial....thank you! I had so much fun I used up all of my white linen and will have to get more.
Thank you for. showing this! Looks like fun and you've taken the fear out of it for me. I will give it a try!
Great information. I learned a lot. Love all the fabrics you dyed. Thank you ❤
I just stumbled upon this tutorial today and went right out and bought some dye. I dyed 2 pieces of Aida and it turned out great for my first try!
Yay!!! Congrats! I'm glad It was helpful!
Thanks for this video. I buy a lot of hand dyed fabric and think I can save. money if I dyed my own. You make it look easy.
I enjoyed the tutorial and learned a lot. I you aren't going to use it, I'd be glad to take it. If it's just going to sit in your stash. This was an excellent learning experience. Thank you.
This video is 3 years old
@@farmgirldrygoods Oh well, it was fun.
Excellent! Great to see the contrast between different fabrics. Many thanks.
Thanks for watching.
Such a great tutorial! I dyed my first piece (28 count Monaco, originally antique white) with your Rit liquid tan and brown combo-really love the result! Thank you for the instructions.
Awesome, i was so afraid to jump into this, but not now thanks to YOU! Great tutorial! Hugs
I just ventured into dyeing territory today! Thank you for this fabulous tut! I can see so much pretty fabric in my future!
Thank you so much for the tutorial! Great tutorial! You shared some great tips that I'm going to try when I dye fabric again. Thank you!
Glad you found it useful!
a very practical and fun tutorial. i would stitch on all of those, i can see how dying fabric could be fun and addictive and not too messy if you're organized. thanks! :)
Thanks Julie. I've been really happy with how quick of a process it is compared to the agonizing coffee/tea dying and it doesn't all rinse out.
Great tutorial. Definitely feel confident in trying at least a two color piece. Glad you tried it with different fabrics to see how dye takes to them, big difference with the linen and Aida. Thanks for taking the time to prepare this tutorial!
It's much easier than people think. I hope you give it a try!
I followed your tutorial and dyed my own fabric. I got the exact result I wanted thanks to your instruction! 😀
Wonderful tutorial. I tea dyed some evenweave the other day and was disappointed cause there was no modling. I see what you did with bunching the fabric. I'm going back in to try that piece again. Thanks so much!
Bunching up the fabric is definitely the secret. Good luck! Make sure you show it to me on IG or on your next video!!
I loved this tutorial!! I just bought tan and brown dye last week to try my hand at dyeing my fabric and then today I saw this. Perfect timing!! Best tutorial I have seen on dying! However, we need to talk about that GIANT bottle of vodka on the counter....
Haha! I REALLY thought I had strategically placed that put of the line of the camera. Guess I got sloppy at the end! 😉
Great tutorial!
Loved your tutorial! This inspires me to try it! Thanks for sharing!

Oh Wow! 😀 Love the tutorial! Thank you for sharing your way of dyeing. I am definitely going to try it.
Thanks for watching! Hope you end up with some great fabric!
Michelle - FANTASTIC tutorial. Just what I needed to see! I watched Confetti Stitchers tutorial which was similar - she used plastic grocery bags rather than the plastic containers. Wonderful tutorial! I’ve tried dying a single color but didn’t know how to do a second or third color. I cannot wait to try! Thank you so much!😍

So fun- nice job... I love the aqua/blue one and the black/purple/green♥️ this girl with take any bright colors you decide you don't want to stitch😊
I really loved this! Lots of good information, and I'm looking forward to trying out a few pieces for myself!
This is great. Thank you. I love the blue and aquamarine as well as the softer looks.
I’m going to try this on Muslin for a Crabapple Hill embroidery fabric. I kind of want a very very lightly mottled pink fo a Valentine’s stitch. Thanks for the tutorial. Great video.
Wonderful tutorial. Thanks for taking the time to teach us!

Thank you so much for sharing this. Really love the blues. I am going to have to give it a try.
So pretty!! It doesn't even look like aida anymore!
Hi I 💕 this video!!!! You did a wonderful job showing how to dye techniques!! Plus I love your northern accent!!! My mom is from South Dakota so it makes me feel right at home here in Oklahoma!!!🥰

This was totally amazing!!! Your dying tutorial was spot on!! Thank you for taking the time to do this. AMAZING!!
Totally enjoyed this. So appreciate you taking the time. Fantastic!!!!

Love, love, love your dying never seen it done before.keep up the good work.XOXO
I just starting to dye my own fabric, and this tutorial was really helpful. I look forward to trying our your techniques!
That was great! Thanks for the tutorial...I'm trying it when I get home from school tomorrow!
You did a great job explaining
Nice tutorial. I've been wanting to dye some fabric. Thanks.
Kathy
i loved the tutorial and will definitely try it! I will make sure that I have a huge bottle of vodka on the counter when I do! Thank you!
Fantastic tutorial! Thank you so much for getting this up so quickly, you've provided lots of tips and inspiration!
I hope you give it a try!
Great tutorial....want to dye some fabrics now!
Hi, I just found this. Thank you for the tutorial. What did you cover your counter with? Thanks.
Beautiful fabric!
Thank you for the tutorial! You make it look pretty easy! I think I'm going to give it a go! Thanks again!!
It really is easy. Good luck!
Purple and yellow would be good for a magician.:) Also good for covering a book.
This was an awesome tutorial! Thank you so much for doing this, i can't wait to try this out!
I'm so excited to try this technique, i have 2 yards of 32ct lugana i can test with. Does evenweave dye more like the aida or the linen. Also does this dyeing technique make it colorfast or do you have to add something to do that?
Great tutorial! Thank you! I know how I'll be spending my vacation this week :) Kathy
This is amazing. Thank you for this tutorial.
Thank you so much for the tutorial! I watched it a few times and then dyed my own yesterday. It turned out great... but, my dark brown looks almost maroon when it dries. What did I do wrong? Does yours do that?
Thank you for the tutorial! I may have to try this now after seeing your process. You made it look easy. :)
I did think of a question...can you save the mixed dye if you don't use it all?
Yes, you can throw it in a container and refrigerate. Warm it up in the microwave before using again.
Wonderful tutorial.TY
Great tutorial! Thank you 😘😘
Thank you for your excellent tutorial!
Super duper! I do this too.. but I tell you, I learned some great tips from you! Awesome, awesome, awesome!
Thanks Vonna!
This is a great tutorial! Thank you so much for sharing!
Great information! Don't know if I missed it or not, but do you air dry or use the dryer? Does it matter?
try using elastic bands , I did with a tea dye and it came out really modeled with a bit of a pattern
