I've had an idea in the back of my head about a Mockumentary Style series/Short Film about my city(Flint, Mi) since forever. Finally decided to write some of it down and any little idea gets jotted down for it now.
But, what really made me decide to give smartphone filmmaking a try is that my 9yr niece- who is full of personality came to me and asked if I could film her like she was a youtube star.
I told her sure, but better yet we can make a movie! She's been super stoked and she decided on a scary movie, so I wrote a 3 page front and back script for her.
It's been a cool bonding moment and a much needed experience and I'm getting some practice for my eventual film idea.
I haven't made it as far as editing yet though lol kinda nervous and intimidated once that comes... I definitely will have to revisit this and your other editing vids for that.
And as of now I'm on an Android device. (I was the one on Facebook who asked you about Camera Apps for Android)
PS- Good Luck to Everyone Else!

Love that! I first started my filmmaking journey because my Grandfather bought an OLD VHS camera (seen in many of my videos on the shelf) and he started making fun videos. Then, we borrowed the camera and started to do the same. You never know how your new interest may inspire your niece to go down a similar path!

The current short horror film project is a film I'd like to enter into the HorrOrigins Film festival mostly to get feedback to improve upon my skills and make the next project even better.
The camera I plan on using is a Panasonic Lumix GH5 which I have a prime and a zoom lumix lens to go with it. I've used it for a few short videos on vacation or trips around town but I'm excited to finally get to use it on a major project.

Love it! I've never been a huge horror fan myself (I'm a wimp who doesn't like being scared,) but I've always enjoyed reading the story synopsis after they've been released. While I haven't personally used a GH5, those have been a staple of the DSLR world for years and always seem to hold their own - it should serve you well!

    1. At the moment, my stories are just for my friends and family and cast and crew. I want to learn as much as I can about the whole film making process. I am a new writer/director/editor/film and a whole bunch more, and I love the whole process. I have a done a couple shorts already and want to eventually get my stuff out there to get more work from people who have seen my stuff. I have it on other social media, but not many followers at the moment.
    2. At the moment I am using my iPhone 13pro. I just purchased a Sony FDR-AX700 starter bundle and am learning as much about it as I can and will probably start shooting with it next year.

Love it! The best way to get started is to just go out and start filming - that's where the biggest lessons come. I find when I just go out and try something, I make the mistakes I need to learn from and then am able to make changes for the next projects. Keep going - you'll get noticed!
