Shoot day is the whole reason I got into this career. There’s few things more exciting to me than taking a camera in hand and capturing powerful images. There’s more to it than just pointing and hitting record, though. You need to understand all the elements that go into the story to make sure you capture everything you need to have what you need in the edit. Today we’re going to dig into the pieces of shoot day to better prepare you for your next story!
We're continuing our month of giveaways, including the Filmmaking Kit grand prize that one lucky member of the RUclips community is going to win! We’re talking everything you need to improve your storytelling game - audio, lighting, and tripod. Plus, there’s some sweet swag to step up your fashion game! So what gear are we talking about? The filmmaking kit includes:
Rode Wireless ME
Aputure Amaran 60x COB light and Light Dome Mini SE
Ulanzi CG02 Handle Grip
80” Tripod
If you win this contest, you’ll have all the tools you need to add a bit extra flare to the stories you’re telling. Is this gear required to tell good stories? Not at all, but gear can help you to overcome limitations of your smartphone’s camera. So how do you win? Easy!
Make sure you’re subscribed to the Smartphone Storytellers channel, then like the video and comment the answer to the question I ask in the video. Wow- my biggest takeaway is about being unobtrusive. I would've never have thought about that, but I can see how that'll lead into more natural performances and less distractions. Definitely will always keep this in mind now!
It's not always easy, but many of my favorite shots have come from capturing those natural moments.
My biggest takeaway is thinking through the story so I know what type of shots I’ll need
Biggest takeaway for me was making sure to capture wide, medium and tight shots. Super insightful for broll
Always love having the pieces to tell some mini-stories!
The biggest take away I had from this video is the fact there are apps out there that I could use on my phone to have more control over ISO, White Balance, Resolution, etc. I was always under the impression that if I wanted to capture decent 4k video that I would need to use a DSLR or a Mirrorless camera. This will definitely come in handy if I'm short on cameras to capture all my shots.
There are definitely benefits to using a more traditional camera, but the quality you can get out of your Smartphone means that there's so much opportunity to start before you ever get that "nicer" camera. And even then, the best camera is the one you have with you, so the fact that you can get such great images out of a smartphone means you're always prepared to capture great shots!
Biggest takeaway for me was the reasons for either shooting a “reporter” style or off-camera style interview. It’s not immediately obvious that the straight on shot might be critical for someone trying to connect with the viewer (founder, CEO or spokesperson). And the 30-45° off-camera shot is good for testimonial type interviews, or for creating a more informal and comfortable situation for the person you’re interviewing.
Looking toward to the iPhone 15 review and BlackMagic App video
Glad those were helpful! Hoping to put out my videos on those during October - was planning to put one out today but came down with a nasty sickness earlier this week. Keep watching and you'll see them soon, though!
@@SmartphoneStorytellers No rush. Honestly it’s probably the longer you have it before the video the better. Unlike a “Specs and First Impressions” video from tech or picture/video RUclipsrs, I’m more interested in what you have to say about it after a few solid weeks of real world use.
Edit: Feel better soon! It’s officially flu season
