I'm only going to be able to give him a 9. If you look closely, his legs were not held tight to each other. He had some arching in the back and he stumbled slightly as he exited the vehicle. But with a little practice with balance I'm sure he will improve.

Wow! Praise be to God he is still alive! with just his feelings hurt. I missed a Really good one! My friends we all used to go to Freemont from 1978 to 1981 and to bad we did not see this Miracle! One that really comes mind is a wreak i seen at the Winter Nationals Beeline Dragway 1978 were this Station wagon Vega lost control a 167mph. It was so BAD the whole car came apart in pieces just all over the track. I do remember the 454 engine flying tree 50' height that FLEW complete across the OTHER SIDE of the track, this was shut down for about 1 1/2hr till they cleaned up the mess/ and took the survivor to the hospital

In the 1970s we used to race at the track and then go to the unincorporated area next to the track and race for hours. It was an industrial area that had all the long roads built with no buildings yet. So much fun. I remember winning over and over until the guy with a small block vega showed up. Then I was second place. What great times.

I lived here in the 70s and 80s I used to walk 5 miles to Baylands and watch drag racing and then walk 5 miles back when I was a kid. I even once found the keys to the whole Dragstrip that they lost and returned them to them. My stepdad used to race here by 88. I was already in the military. Great to see the race track it’s not there anymore. They used to be an abandoned theater right near there too pretty cool.

1/4 mile he crashed about the 1/8 mile mark in the video. Scoreboards were about 30 feet before the 1/4 finish line. the '55 belonged to his son. He had a bye run into the next round, so he let his dad run the car. It was a street race car from SJ CA and ran low 12's. We all thought at first the '55 swerved to miss someone running across the track. Until we saw him taking off his helmet.

My hometown.we moved to Fremont in 1967.great place to be a kid back then.I grew up across from here on a street between Mowry and Stevenson called Farwell ave.I could hear them racing from my back yard.back in those days the cops would take you to jail for a marijuana seed but would tell you to go home if they caught you with a beer! HA!. Niles canyon and Mission peak were our play, discovery areas. The place seemed to go to hell when I came home in 1980 after being away 6 yrs. serving US Navy.

  • @pyschonova

Not fake LOL. The scoreboard was from the run before. The door was open and actually held the car off the ground just long enough for Don to fall out. Seats and seat belts were stick welded to the sheet metal floor. Easily ripped out from the crash. This happened late in 1988 at Fremont drag strip that was closed in November '88. Lots of people came out to make a last pass down the strip, and tech was pretty lenient. check the video link to see the car after the wreck.

Car required to have a seat belt to prevent driver ejection.#3: Driver seems to be ejected when the door was NOT in position for his ejection! #4: Seems inconceivable race car would practically DISINTEGRATE when it didn't look like it was doing more than 70 MPH (His scoreboard displayed 10.76 @ 10.80 MPH!?!? Too fishy!!!

    • @boddah

Notice how the door came open when the roof made light contact with the track's surface, Back in 50's door latches worked better as bottle openers as opposed to what they were actually designed for. The video is definitely real, car's can easily come apart in a 60 mph rollover crash involving a guardrail, especially the older ones. Real facts from someone who has tons of Tri-five Chevy experience.
