- Classic Game Room HD reviews SUPER GODZILLA for the Super Nintendo video game console. This Super Godzilla review for the SNES shows the gameplay footage of Super Godzilla, several of the monsters including King Ghidora (aka Monster Zero), Mechagodzilla and Biollante. This is an interesting game and licensed from Toho. It plays like part strategy game and part fighting game, although instead of traditional 2D fighting with Godzilla vs. Monsters you use a "fighting spirit". In order to play the game properly you must learn and master this fighting spirit. CGR would rather watch Godzilla movies but that's just us... Anyway, it's an interesting game and a valiant effort on the Super Nintendo. Music and graphics are top notch as is the Godzilla King of the Monsters Terror of Mechagodzilla style plot. Maybe the game could have used even more flying saucers and hot Japanese scientists with nothing to lose except their lab coats but hey... maybe they'll make that into the next game. Classic Game Room reviews SNES video games and has a collection of Super Nintendo games to review over the next several months. Keep coming back for daily Classic Game Room new and classic video game reviews. Game includes other monsters like Mothra.
OMG i remember playing this when i was like 5 or 6 lol good times... gooooood tiiiiimmmes
I totally remember playing this game when I was 5! I'm glad I found this!
Wow..I totally remember playing this when I was a kid.
The godzilla theme at the beginning sounds like it's played by farts.
Fun fact: The theme was actually played by farts. Amazingly, only 3 people (2 men, 1 woman) were needed in the recording booth to pull off the farts needed to create the track. This song definitely could not have been pulled off without their virtuosic flatulency.
LOL! that intro hahha!! pure awesome right there.
I still have this game ... good times
man now i want to watch a godzilla marathon... i wish sci-fi channel still showed those... i need a big bag of gummies a couple friends and some godzilla.... maybe some beers too XD
"But in all seriousness Mark, I think you should play King of the Monsters."
Agreed. I don't know how well it plays on the Genesis, but it was a total blast on the Neo Geo. King of the Monsters actually managed to capture almost all of the violent and destructive fun fans know and love about the classic Japanese rubber suit-monster movies. I didn't think King of the Monsters 2 was anything to write home about, but the first one is sure to please. Check it out sometime, and BTW, nice review!
Hi Review Godzilla Unleashed Classic Game Room dude because you Rock!!!!!!!!
Well, perhaps the Godzilla monsters are really just Dr. Wily's creations as well, also made in the year 199X.
599USD please.
omg I remember playing this game at my gmas...ahh the good ol days, when I wasnt smart enough to tell if a game was good or bad.
The best Godzilla game to date!
This game was just amazing for it's time. Unfortunately, it hasn't really aged well, but it's still fun to pop it in every once in a while to play. The only gripe I really have about this game is how much the enemy gets to attack (around 3, compared to your 1 attack).
Nice review
the music was great for that time on that console
This game's soundtrack is pretty epic stuff.
I don't care what anyone says, I'll still love this game from my childhood. And I'm happy mark pointed out the weak AND strong points of the game. Maybe if the fighting was real fighting, and amybe the travel could have been quickened or changed up a bit it would have been better for it, but regardless I still like it. However the one redeeming quality is it's end boss and godzilla's transformation, I still want a movie based on that final fight, it'd be the beat all, end all fight for godzilla.
this is actually my favorite Godzilla game...
Love the intro music
Sounds like farts.
i remember playing this game when i was 5 or 6. it was really tough, i never quite got the hang of it. tried over and over but never beat it, though i did get decently far.
Same! I never really got the concept of game progress when I was 5 so I just played from the beginning everyday and never beat it, my brother got pretty far tho, maybe beat it
I remember i loved this game as a kid lol. I could never get past mechagodzilla though :( maybe I did a couple times but I dont think i got very far after that.
i use to play this game all the time when i was like 11
omg memories wow i rember about this
Very good and concise review. It's pretty much exactly how I felt about the game. I've beaten it twice now, and basically, it's interesting, very nicely cinematic, but after a while it really just ends up being frustrating.
They didn't do enough with it, but it was still fairly well put together.
Again, great review.
I LOVE this game. It required that you use strategy, rather than just attacking a weak point repeatedly. If you just tried to power through, you got your ass kicked all the way back to Honshu. The music was actually rather good for the time. Only problem, why the Hell hasn't Bagan had a movie yet?
i remember my sister playing this game
the music is good i only remember figthing ghidora
When I was younger, I've only seen two Godzilla movies: King Kong vs Godzilla and Godzilla '98. I thought 98 was kinda cool back then, I liked how realistic he looked. I can't remember if I liked Vs Kong or not, it was long ago.
I just recently started watching more Godzilla movies. I seen the original a few weeks ago, I really liked that one because of how serious it was. I also watched Vs King Ghidorah and Tokyo SOS. I thought Tokyo SOS wasn't bad, I didn't dig Vs King Ghirdorah.
I'd have to agree with you completely, if you can Mark pick up King of the Monsters or it's sequel. Take it from us, you won't regret the purchase. Good ol' arcade fun, with lots of button mashing to nail that stubborn grapple.
I want him to review the three 3D godzilla fighting games. "Godzilla: Destroy all Monsters Melee", "Godzilla: Save the Earth", and "Godzilla: Unleashed".
Great minds think alike! I love the same genre! Scifi, James Bond, and monster movies! What more can you ask for?
i have fond memories of this game. i could usually beat it in one sitting.
man I loved this game
I would love to see Godzilla vs Dragonzord
Haha, thought you would. Ninja Warriors also has Ninja robots btw. Hagane though is a great game, hard, but really fun.
omg.. I HAD THIS GAME!
love it!
Mark, review Godzilla destroy all monsters on
either GameCube or The original Xbox! It's a great game!
wow I can't believe I used to play this game when I was so little xD Seems to me now, that it Should have confused me back then.. guess not lol I remember it fondly, but seeing it in this review.. kind of hurts now XD
Lmao the game over music is all i remember
@cassiavc i think youre right when it comes to graphics arent as important, but you cant deny that there are also new games with good graphics that are excelent too.
ah yes the year of 199X; I remember it fondly.
I watched Final Wars today, in short, I liked it. But to go further, it was like Power Rangers but for adults. It had some cool action, some cool effects, and some of the updated monster designs looked cool as well. It was cheesy, but overall the movie gave me the message that "here's Godzilla, he's a bad ass, oh and here are some guys fighting each other just to mix it up a bit." I can see your point because it's different from the other movies I've seen, but I'll check those others out as well
my mom wud say that when i wz playin the game, dat was like 10 or 11 years ago... wo, i just realized that 0.o
time flies...
At the end of the video it starts to play the Mechagodzilla battle music. Do you happen to know of a place where I can download this music?
It looks like an awesome game I don't understand how sound, graphics, some minor problems can affect a game based on a character as badass as GODZILLA!
my nephew loves godzilla games. i cannot see the draw. every one i have ever played has struggled with bad controls, limited battles, and overall poor level design. i am still looking for one that i enjoy so i can play one with him.
to be honest, I actually kinda like Super Godzilla. To me, it has the same charm a lot of the Hensei/90s Godzilla films had, and once you master the battle system, the game actually gets fairly easy. In a way, this game is a guilty pleasure of mine.
Interesting Fact: This game is based around an unfinished Godzilla film. Toho was developing a godzilla movie with the same plot as this game, but eventually scrapped it. kinda sad though, cause I feel this would have been a better movie than a game
i hope they bring super godzilla back for a new godzilla video game.
The music! hahaha
the gave was missing a couple things but I think if they decided to go for more of a board game turn based rpg game where if you bump into another monster you go into a battle sequence that would be cool and maybe even a multi player mode would be cool and you would be able to play other monsters that would be awesome.on modern hand held systems like the psp and an online mode this game would reign supreme.
I think that the Godzilla games were so bad is due to a conflict of cultures. Godzilla is so big, awesome, and terrible you can't even think about being him as a player. This is why his games are from the perspective of "Mission Control". The games put you in the movies, and if you were in the movie this is what you would do:
"GOH-ZI-RAH!!!" *runs*
Hey! Prequel Star Wars films were awesome.
OH NO! IT'S GOJIRA!
woo! first comment. haha, this game looks so wierd!
best game ever!!!!!!!!
I remember never being able to get to biolante XD
But in all seriousness Mark, I think you should play King of the Monsters. It's like Godzilla meets pro wrestling....who doesn't like that?
Most people play this game because they want to see if Bagan really does live up to his reputation, not many people would believe there is a Kaiju that quite literally Godzilla couldn't beat... even on a good day.
Yeah, 2 basically geared more towards a side scrolling beat 'em up rather than a wrestling game. They pretty much changed the formula, but not for the better.
8:30 MechaGodzilla just wanted a hug. =(
@NINJACH0P957
you have my vote
I think a remake of this game should be made on the Nintendo DS
Godzilla punching flying saucers. Me like.
Ah 199x... Those were the days
i could never beat this game as a little kid :(
Axelay is another good one for snes...get it...now
@MrAmonkey7 I agree! AVGN is more of comedy and funny, whilst as cgr is a serious review type, I have no preferability, but I think they are both great!
........Actually godzookie was his nephew in the cartoons and that Godzilla did die his son became the new Godzilla from all the radiation bringing him back to life. in the 2000's its just a different story line for Godzilla as they don't go with the other old movies but the very first. Hope this helps.
did they use FARTS in the opening soudtrack?
i played it last nite and i beat it in a little over 40 minutes. only after beating it many years since i got it, its like a cakewalk. the only two annoying monsters r MechaGodzilla and Biolantee.
this would be greaat on a Nintendo DS
:D
A game i really dont know how to play yet have beat dozens of times.
Damn, the SNES has alot of great games and you picked to review this one?
Mark, let me help you out a bit on your search for great games, on the SNES,
Zelda: A Link to the Past
Super Metroid
Hagane (crazy Ninja Robot action)
Mega Man 7
Mega Man X1-3
Final Fantasy 2 and 3
Chrono Trigger
Phalanx
and
Ninja Warriors
I'd also mention Super Star Wars but you got them apparently
@JSlayer108 there was going to be godzilla vs bagan but they replaced bagan with destroyah.
xD happy 700th vid. xD
@TheOptimisticprime yah with the double screens, that would be perfect.
...does the level skip cheat work?
Yes every game is like that even the Halo games i didn't play halo 2 but i have halo CE and played halo 3 i haven't played halo 3 in over a year and when i played it again on normal it i just did shot a few rounds and melee and got to the ark in less then a hour +/- said it was 2 easy and went on the level right below ledernary and used the same and steal almost it. (note i used halo 3 cause it is popular and it has a new game out)
"the year 199x..." damn im getting old :p
4:25 Godzilla fighting a flying saucer! Win!
@JSlayer108 yeah i want bagan instead of destroyah too it would make a great movie but i will be happy if they make a remake of godzilla vs king kong where godzilla wins.
why does Godzilla fart his own theme song.
I wonder if DESOTROYA! is in this game...
Still have my copy of the game
@worrior1975 - Gameplay and fun factor ALWAYS take priority over graphics. Always. No exceptions.
Example: Real life. Has the best graphics ever but it can be pretty crappy at times.
i want to know the song at the begining really bad and i had this and still have it actually
Instead of a dot. They should have had a chibi Godzilla from the Gameboy Title.
Wow Godzilla actually doesn't look that bad on the title screen.
this game rocks out with its cock out. It happens to be one of my favorites. Especially with the final boss, he is truly monstrous. Lots bigger than even biolante.
the avgn review of this game is way better
i always liked War Of The Gargantuas.......
oh man that's totally true, xD
Does anybody know the planet that mark said with 7 in the title
I'll check some of those out. I obtained Final Wars, so I'm going to watch that one next. I'm looking forward to it because it has Don Frye, he's a total bad ass in the ring. If you've never seen him fight in real life, check out "don frye vs yoshihiro takayama" on youtube.
Did King Gihdora just fly over Sim City?
6:48 Godzilla's arms reach 4inches in front of his body?
doesnt he mean meters? :D
in the cut scene when mecha godzilla turnd back into well mecha godzilla the asian girl talking said "mecha godzilla the enemy was really ".....lol
make em say UHHH! Na-na-na-NAAA!
199X was a good year.
review more PSX games please
