Just watched my daily dose of GMM on RUclips, and then I look up to the TV to see you guys on the today show! Congrats on 10 years, can’t get enough of guys!
So Rhett and Link probably won't see this, but for anyone else that has tried a small red fruit they thought was a strawberry in their yard--you're half right. What you (and Rhett send Link) probably ate was Potentilla Indica, also known as mock strawberry or Indian Strawberry. And it tastes like cardboard. Edible! But bland. Real wild strawberries are absolutely delightful. They are incredibly sweet and flavorful--like you took store bought strawberries, dipped them in sugar, and gave them a more herbacious flavor. In my neck of the woods, real wild strawberries don't usually grow near clover. It likes somewhat drier, scraggler soils. (I often find them in construction lots in suburban neighborhoods.) And ths very tips of the older leaves are often slightly Orangish red. Tis a seriously S-tier wild edible
Yes I do know both, thank you for that comment! Real wild strawberries are fricking awesome! Detto with wild blackberries and blueberries. My gosh that makes a difference to the big varieties!
Both grew around the cliffs where I used to live, and wild blackberries, a ton of plum trees. I accidentaly planted a banana passion fruit vine that now grows all the way up a 70 foot tree. In spring/summer you could find a snack pretty much anywhere in town
Rhett, I 100% agree with you on the slightly green bananas. No one in my family does, even extended, but hearing you say that made me know I'm not crazy. Thank you.
My own consensus has been that larger fruits tend to taste more watery, thus diluting the flavor a little. Hence why I think the smaller ones they had today taste better!
Me too. Not a fruit. But giant shrimp tastes like nothing and rubbery in texture, compared to a small shrimp. I hat shrimp in the USA, because they are so big and rubbery. 😂😂
Those little "wild strawberries" are actually Potentilla Indica, commonly known as snake strawberries or snake berries. Potentilla Indica is called the "false strawberry" because it looks really similar to strawberries, but isn't. snake berries don't have much taste, but they are edible.
I grew up in NJ and in my grandparents backyard they had wild honeysuckle growing in the one corner of the yard. My friends and I would lick them all the time when they came by it was a great and fond memory from childhood.
One thing I take away from this video I will never give my dog grapes, sometimes if one falls on the floor I just leave it for my my dog. I had no idea they were toxic for them! Thank you Rhett!
Oh my. 0_0 Hope your dog is okay! Some common human food can be quite toxic to pets; sharing food with your four-legged friend is a risk *not* worth taking.
Same for chocolate!! I’d recommend a quick google search for fruits and veggies that are harmful for dogs and cats because there is a surprising amount!
@@cedxxii are you referring to plantains? They look like bananas but they're small... and a bit more bitter, in my experience. Maybe I just havent had a good plantain?
I have worked at an orchard, and those small pears they tried were just the unripe version of the big one at a supermarket. There are small varieties such as Seckel pears, that are sweet and delicious when ripe! same with apples (Lady apples, for instance)
ive been in dozens of international airports over the last several years and the food is actually damn good these days, even the fruit. i had a frankfurter in the frankfurt airport that was fabulous about a month or so ago
I don't know if you can get those in US, but in Peru we have tiny bananas. They are about 1/4 of a normal size banana and are much sweeter. Psdt: I'm 100% agree with Rhett's opinion about slightly green bananas.
Link, actual small apples(which are at least half the size of the *small* ones that you guys got) are the perfect solution to your problem. Even though I really like apples, I somewhat agree with your conclusion.
I don’t remember which airport it was but I have been in one that had a full produce section, so I thought Rhett and link were serious at first when they said they got these at the airport 😂
I tried adding banana peel (unfrozen) to a smoothie, because it’s true that they are SO HEALTHY for you, but I added TOO MUCH! That “smoothie” was straight fiber
Just red eyed from Alaska to Michigan, and the pear commentary is just about all I can take to not wake anyone with laughter🤣 Thank you Rhett, Link, and the team!
I agree with Link on blueberries being too mushy, but that is only store bough ones. I have a blueberry bush, and you can always pick them before they get too ripe and are still tart!
I like big blueberries for taste. The little ones are too tart to me, and taste a little on the unripe side, but I’m not gonna turn down a blueberry, of any size.
I don’t know if they have it in the US, but there’s a type of banana that’s called Apple banana. And it’s like 1/2 or 1/3 the size of a regular banana. And sweet and tasty. My favorite kind of banana.
When freezing the bananas only use eco bananas as the others has pestisides that may be harmful to you. The eco friendly still has a lot of pestisides but they are safer for you.
Definitely on "slightly green banana" page. If it's a little crunchy it's perfect! When they start getting what I like to call "giraffey" I don't like them anymore and they are being saved for banana bread.
My theory is that larger fruit is usually more water ripened than sun ripened, making it more bland than the smaller fruit :) We have so much wild fruit here! Plums, apples, pears, blackberries, cherries, thimble berries, salmon berries, saskatoon berries, huckleberries, blueberries, salal berries, gooseberries, indian plums, strawberries... There are likely others that I'm missing too. Basically it's a feast from early June- mid Sept.
Nope, bananas have to have dark spots. Didn't like the look when I was a kid, but once I learned how good the flavour was I never went back. Also since living in a fruit growing area, I learned most grocery store fruit is unripe and unsalvagable as it never will ripen.
not every big blueberry is grainy, I can't stand a soft blueberry but I still prefer the big ones 100%, A perfectly crunchy big one has a bigger crunch than a small one. It's not 100%, but if you use Rhetts banana trick and pick one that has a touch of red, perfect crunch, perfectly tart, unless the box is old.
I minimised the tab to listen while I was working, and when I clicked back I must have missed something, because Rhett was stroking a waffle with googley eyes?? Then I thought, it's GMM, that seems legit.
