I think this was the perfect amount of evil, actually.
There's some legitimately frustrating parts (any part with permastun, and the actual antisoftlock), but there's also the anti-frustrations, "benevolent level creator" as you call it.
And that's really the best part, is trying to figure out which sections are evil and which are benevolent.
(I feel like I called some of the trolls- like the first fake anti-softlock after the "fail" being the correct path, but definitely fell for others.)

I still think “Rhymes with Fun” is Carl’s SMM2 Magnum Opus. The Getting Over It level is more just rage than actual trolling, the Gerksmas level seems more like a gimmick ASL showcase, and while the water level is good, I think this one is just a little better crafted.
Less evil for the next level. At this point everyone knows you for the really devious levels. If you go completely benevolent level creator, you're once again subverting expectations.
Considering Carl's next troll level was the underwater level with Lemmy's balls, it would seem that he did not go less evil lol.
Here is me hoping Carl will never think of taking over the world...

It's a snow level. There are simply snowballs around sometimes. Maybe they're adjacent to a pipe or an upward thrusting Pokey. Maybe a pair of them are being dropped on your face as you respawn. Just happy little snowball friends in this happy little snow level. ;3
It was likely the Boser or Thwomp Slide glitch, because Nintendo can't delete every combination of objects and terrain that has 2 round orbs and 1 longer thing in the middle. ;p

"More evil or less evil?" ... what, even, was evil in this? They subjected themselves to it and knew full well what they were about to experience when they accepted playing this... no? Also... smm2 IS about letting the creator do whatever they want to you/your mind. Here Carl, if you read these messages : WTS-T8G-BVF I'm sure you will read the level well and actually enjoy it. It's a bit of a scavenger hunt (first 1/3rds) then, if you made it past that, you wonder how invested you are. I'm sure you would enjoy it. There are about 3 trolls, but otherwise its a cosmetically appealing level that requires your harshest judgement. I only ever caught one of your streams, sadly! TY for some of your videos that I've watched! Amazing to see a genuine person react/discover some of these creations.

Ryu is like that with most games he plays.
I figured it out: Carl doesn't fall for trolls by mistake, he does it on purpose. He's trying to figure out how people fall for trolls and uses it to advance his own trollology skills.

13:09 I'm flabbergasted. Ryu totally destroyed the "getting over it" level. He didn't even realize it was a troll level, to this day he thinks it's a regular plataforming level.
The "getting over it" level isn't really a troll level, it's just a really unfair and frustrating platforming level, and Ruy is extremely skilled in platforming so it's no wonder he had little trouble with it. But in actual troll levels traditional platforming skills don't matter much, they're all about predicting the tricks in the level, which you can only really get good at by seeing a lot of them. And Ruy rarely plays troll levels,meaning he doesn't have much experience with them, so when he does play one he tends to get bodied hard and fall for most trolls in them

To be fair, the Getting Over It level was sadistic platforming with trolly elements, but at the core it was mostly just platforming. And even in straight up platforming levels, it's not uncommon to see some light trolls like kaizo blocks.
THIS is a troll level proper, where the design is more about messing with people in funny ways and not gameplay challenges.
But he hated that level. Tammy was playing that level then Ryu offered “tips.” He took the controller and quit the level lol Tammy looked so pissed.

It's actually slightly out of context. I was showing a screencap of a DM from beforehand where I told Carl "if this antisoftlock forces me to either time out or get so frustrated I need to start over, my next level will have a 'carl' version and a 'regular' version as well, and I will not let you play the regular one." and Carl said "I am OK with this deal". I DID in fact time out in that anti, and the rest you know. >:-)

My level is easy to skip the main part, but only about 1/100 people do, and I think that’s because it’s so unique they don’t think there would be a way to skip it. And honestly, I think that it’s better if you don’t skip it but for those speed-runners, the best record is 17 seconds. So if DGR ever plays it, don’t try to get the world record, because it’s much better played otherwise. So, easy or hard level, depending on how you make it, plus a quality of uniqueness. Kinda like ZachScott’s levels. Optional effort.

This type of video is probably my favorite type from your channel, even though I love every single video!
Thank you! From a "time invested" perspective, it is totally not worth it. It takes me dozens of hours to make the level, and that many or more to watch everyone's playthroughs and select clips. Then my editor has to spend way more time than usual to put it all together. But, we love doing it every once in a while, so I'm glad you enjoy it!
