If you want the opportunity to watch _Close Encounters of the Third Kind_ on the big screen, Fathom Events will be showing it at theaters across the country on July 7th and 10th. (2024)
It was more than just Barry playing that xylophone. In the beginning of the movie, Barry was possibly the very first person to see them when he came down stairs and walked into the kitchen, of which then, you see Barry's reaction to something there. I always felt that other than Rory, Barry was special, but because he was too young, he probably couldn't physically handle the changes that Rory went through in order to survive the journey Rory was going to go on. I suspect that when Rory went into the Mothership, he was transformed into one of the aliens in order to survive. The Special Edition where you see Rory inside the ship, and then, you see Rory engulfed in light and sparks coming down all around him. Then, outside, you see a alien slightly taller than the 'child-like' aliens walk out, he does the sign language thing, smiles, then goes back into the Mothership. I always believed that was Rory transformed.
@@mysticwolf75friendly my ass, taking your Children after scaring the shit out of you is femonic, its how you catch a 12 gauge to the chest. Except these beings are likely immortal because they are fallen angels.
Saw when it came out. I was 6. For much of my childhood I thought of Close Encounters as kind of a horror movie. When the kid opens the door it looks like HELL outside! Very scary.
Among all the great Spielberg touches is the black rotary phone from the 1960s. (5:00) I have to say that a part of me still misses those old phones, even with their cords.
Close Encounters of the Third Kind opened at the Ziegfeld theater in New York City the week before Thanksgiving 1977. It was such an experience for me as a teenager that I was compelled to watch 25 times.
I absolutely love this movie. I saw it 3 times at the theater in the 70's (and that just didn't happen back then). But........ 1. At 2:58: maybe they're upstairs, where you completely forgot to shut and lock the windows. 2. There must be some backstory (I read the novelization back then, but don't remember), but Gillian must have got that house from a dead grandmother or something. There is some seriously old-lady shit in that house.
Yes, they were on the roof, but based on her reaction, looks like she went into immediate panic/survival instinct mode, which included running/checking perimeters inside, which also unfortunately caused her to not notice the kid traveling out the doggy-door.
When Barry was looking through the porch screen at an upward angle, he said "Toys"! Spielberg said it was he who was outside atop a A-frame ladder opening a wrapped present with toys of some sort inside. With the camera rolling on the child actor as Steven unwrapped the present on the ladder, that "Toys" scene was captured.
That wasn't a thunderstorm, the alien mothership was generating the clouds. The lights were the smaller ships about to emerge from the clouds. Right when the mother ran inside and took Barry away from the window the entire cloud bank began lighting up. Right then there must have been thousands of alien ships coming out.
I watched this movie when I was a kid and it frightened me so much when we see the clouds that I was always scared of storms. Still today I am but less.
Just don't make movies of this calibre anymore no CG just hard work and practical effects. Note to movie developers today , get a proper story good acting and stop with the quick cash grab crap
It was a warm summer evening, and little Timmy was lying in bed, staring out his window. He had heard that there was a meteor shower happening that night, and he was desperate to catch a glimpse of the shooting stars. As he looked out into the darkness, he noticed a flicker of light in the distance. It was small at first, but it quickly grew into a bright flame, dancing against the blackness of the night sky. Excitedly, Timmy jumped out of bed and raced outside, eager to get a closer look. But as he approached the source of the light, he realized that it wasn't a fire at all - it was a strange, glowing object that had landed in the nearby field. Curious, Timmy approached the object, his heart racing with excitement. But as he got closer, a strange feeling washed over him - he felt like he was being watched, like there was something or someone out there, waiting for him. Suddenly, a bright light filled the air, blinding Timmy and causing him to stumble backwards. When he regained his vision, he found himself surrounded by strange, otherworldly beings, their bodies covered in shimmering scales and their eyes glowing with an otherworldly light. Terrified, Timmy tried to run, but the beings were too fast for him. They grabbed him by the arms and legs, dragging him towards their spacecraft, which hovered ominously in the sky. As the ship lifted off into the air, Timmy screamed for help, but it was too late - he had been abducted by beings from another world, taken away from his family and friends and thrust into an unknown, terrifying future. Years later, when Timmy was finally rescued and returned to Earth, he would look back on that night and wonder what would have happened if he had never been lured outside by the flickering flames in the sky. But the truth was, he would never know - all he could do was try to move forward, and hope that one day he would be able to make sense of the strange, terrifying experience that had changed his life forever.

Whenever I hear 'Chances are' by Johnny Mathis, I think of this scene. Masterpiece!
Same loved it every since I was a kid in the 90s and the old cartoon network commercials they used that song for the time life albums❤
Little known fact: Most alien abduction take place while Johnny Mathis is playing in the background.
That door opening scene was fuckin epic.....🤗👍🙂😂♥️
Most kids would be terrified of the storm clouds rolling out like ocean waves. This kid suprisingly smiled at this occurence.
You do realize that within the movie making process, many things are later 'dubbed' in?
Those weren't storms clouds. The alien mothership was generating the clouds, storms don't form that quickly.
@@scotthayes4135 ok. It was terrifying such that in the evening when I would go for a walk I would look at sky occasionally in fear .

The child is happy. The poltergeist music is what makes it terrifying.

Not gonna lie - if I was standing outside and saw those UFOs heading my way, I'd stay out there shouting "Beam me up!"
