A product that reduces safety. The whole reason there is a big.light in the middle that is usually off is so that when the rider brakes that big light draws attention. A brake light is a far more important light than a tail light. I also think the OEM multi function indicator set up is great
I might agree with the drawing attention when rider brakes. The multifunction should be a safety concern as, when using the blinker at night and braking, it can be barely seen from behind though...
Another great episode, Carl. I really struggle to understand the BMW's design team end-goal for effectively removing the main/centre tail-light. Then (I assume) the final design had to pass BMW's safety team/department, let alone type approval testing (or equivalent) for each country in which these new bikes would be sold. For me (and I guess many others), the tail-light is a reference point if you will. When I'm following another bike, it's the centre point, the position light; when I then see an orange indicator flash to one side or the other of that centre point (tail-light), I'm left in no doubt where that bike is telling me he/she is going. With centre point/tail-light, is it really going to be as obvious? I'm not sure ... Well done to Weiser Technik for producing a solution (that should've never really been needed).
Hi Martin, thank you 🙏. Quite a few of the new bikes don’t have a central rear light which is not great, i think it’s because Radar will become standard on many new bikes and models over the next few years so they need somewhere to mount it on the rear . When Weiser-Tech came to my home last year to talk about the products and technology they asked is there anything I wanted them to make… and this module was it, so I’m pleased they found a solution. Best wishes Carl
Wouldn't have even been aware of this, if i hadn't seen this video. Glad i did and am waiting for mine to arrive and will follow your install video. Cheers

Is it allowed to have 3 tail lights in germany? I think it might not be allowed this way. If you use the middle light as tail and break light (like before models) you have to remove the drl function from the indicators so it is only one center tail light.

@@justthewayitis Hello Carl, it must be anywhere in the StVO (Straßenverkehrsordnung). I searched the web and found at Dekra : [Ein Rückstrahler hinten ist Pflicht, zwei sind erlaubt.] and [Anzahl Schlussleuchten: 1 oder 2, mittig zur Fahrzeugachse montiert]. In english: 1 tail light is a must have, two are allowed. To be 100% sure you can only ask a Dekra or TÜV Engineer as he must know the latest changes of the law. If you search the web it is not 100% sure that it is the latest information. I have a 1250RS which had no side markers from factory. There was a guy here in germany that supplied a PCB and cables to give the "older" bikes the look of the new 1250GS. One of the steps was to deactivate the tail light function. I made it by my own without his kit and disconnected the tail light pin (and fit a resistor to it to let the controller know everything is OK for the self test). It would have been much easier with just adding the side markers so I think he deactivated the tail light for a reason (make it legal). I have made all light functions exactly like on the new GS (using a Hex ezCan, a termination resistor and original new design LED Indicators from BMW) because this must be legal this way. I sent you an email with a document. Perhaps this helps....
It would be nice if the function of lights on/lights off could be done in the OEM blinkers, both light and blinker would turn on and off... Is it possible with the module?
Hello, the only function of the module is as shown, but there is a new product due to be released in August that I will have a review on…. That you might like 👍
@@justthewayitis don't tell me: center light on and brake, side lights on and when using as blinkers they'll go off and on... So it would be almost the same as the previously model... That would be something nice 👌
Exactly… if was shown the prototype unit on a test vehicle this week, a production version will be with me in a week or two to test on my bike, then I’ll put a video up once that’s finished and they have stock. It’s a clever solution 👍
This one is a tough decision. I get why BMW got rid of the marker light function from the tail light. A light that suddenly appears where there wasn't a light is more likely going to grab a drivers attention than say a light that was there but just got brighter. The turn signals provide that marker light function instead, poorly for the OEM lights. I get the flipside of it as well, less light to let a driver know you're in front of them when barreling down the road. I'm all for anything that will make me more visible at any given time, so I'll probably get this. That's why I have a brake free on my helmet and changed my turn signals to Weiser Tech. What I don't understand is BMW getting rid of the tail light all together, that's a stupid move in my opinion. The only reason I can see doing something like that is for aesthetics, which should never come before safety. What does removing an essential light provide? Weight savings are nonconsequential, there's no additional horsepower or torque gain, these are LED lights so it's not really removing any strain from the electrical system. It's baffling...though it does give Weiser Tech new products to produce to fix BMW's mistakes.
Hi Correy thanks for your feedback… and it’s a similar thought process to me. On one hand the impact of a single big brake light is welcome, but with the Weiser indicators now doing this better than the OEM ones I find myself missing that extra central light especially early mornings and late afternoons. Many of us don’t understand why bmw is removing the rear taillight unit, but a bigger question is why are they being Allowed to do this by the DOT and European lighting laws. Have a great weekend Carl
Hi Correy, I think you might have a tail light illuminated inside your light assembly already? Can you check and let me know please when you have a spare moment. I thought that all North American specification bikes still had It. Carl

Hi Ray, most things we fit to our bikes affect warranty in one way or another. I recently found out that adding stickers to a motorbike can affect insurance (UK Policy supplier) which was a complete shock !!! My understanding from my local dealer is as follows: If I install 3rd party lights then the lights are no longer covered by the warranty as they are no longer OEM parts..... which seems reasonable to me. The same applies if I install a different screen or seat or foot pegs. But, Because this module does not require any cutting or modifying of the original BMW system (basically it attaches to it) my understanding is that it does not affect the whole bike warranty. However, If ( as i have) I install the Weiser indicators then i have removed an original part and fitted an aftermarket part... so in this case I affected the warranty of the lights. I hope my reply make sense.... this is just my understanding of course, and i would always recommend you ask your suppling dealership. Just be aware that they seem to say different things to different customers !!! Carl
Hi. I see in the comments somethong about this product is functioning together with the DRL. Do the ”new” taillight switch on and off together with that when installing this?
Hi Ola, good morning Sorry I don’t understand your question Can you ask again using different words ? The module can be installed by itself on a standard gs/a Or it can be installed on gs/a that already has Weiser-Tech indicators installed. The switch I mentioned in the video is inside the indicators please watch episode 13 for a full explanation Carl
@@justthewayitis Hi again. Sorry for the unclear question…english is not my native language… I have a -21 GSA and I run my lights in auto mode. What I meant was, does this product turn on/off the rear center lights along with the bikes auto frontlight mode (like when you enter a tunnel) or is the ”new” rear lights on constantly?
I own a r1200gsa. Find it utterly stupid what bmw did. US has the correct policy. Only turn indicators is dangerous during braking and turning at the same time.

Carl
@@justthewayitis I'm in Japan and have one of the rest of the world bikes 😄
Ah, ok 👌👍 then this will work brilliantly for you , Carl
Any discount code this time Carl?
Hello Tim, go to my channel then watch episode 13, at the end of the video are the steps for requesting a discount code.
Which you can still use for these modules
What bike are you fitting them too Tim ?
Carl
2021 R1250GS, I replaced the standard multifunction set up with the EVO last year after watching your videos. Extremely happy with them, used the discount code then.
Tim
Apologies Carl, I didn’t run to the end of the video to see your bit regarding the discount.
No problem 🙋🏻♂️
Well done the US DOT for not approving them. They're hopeless when braking and indicating - the amber is all but invisible.
Totally agree ✌️
Hi Carl, would fitting the module or any of the other Weiser products the warranty ?
Affect
Carl
Cheers Carl, yes makes sense, thanks.
Hi.
I see in the comments somethong about this product is functioning together with the DRL. Do the ”new” taillight switch on and off together with that when installing this?
Hi Ola, good morning
Sorry I don’t understand your question
Can you ask again using different words ?
The module can be installed by itself on a standard gs/a
Or it can be installed on gs/a that already has Weiser-Tech indicators installed.
The switch I mentioned in the video is inside the indicators please watch episode 13 for a full explanation
Carl
@@justthewayitis Hi again.
Sorry for the unclear question…english is not my native language…
I have a -21 GSA and I run my lights in auto mode. What I meant was, does this product turn on/off the rear center lights along with the bikes auto frontlight mode (like when you enter a tunnel) or is the ”new” rear lights on constantly?
Hi Ola, correct the new module keeps the rear tail light on all the time ✌️
good and informative video, but the bike now lights up like a Christmas tree, or an old model honda goldwing 😂 no thx
lol 🤔 yes maybe you are right. I remember those old Goldwings….
Carl
shame, if you install this in Europe, you loose the homologation.
I own a r1200gsa. Find it utterly stupid what bmw did. US has the correct policy. Only turn indicators is dangerous during braking and turning at the same time.
Totally agree 🙋🏻♂️👍🙏
Just over 500 euros for a complete set minus discount, plus VAT into Norway 🫣
Yes they are not cheap.
Greetings to Norway 🇳🇴 Carl
