- Better Than Going German? Peugeot 508 Fastback Review
Think of an executive car, and there's a good chance you'll think of a German car. Peugeot, however, is quite keen to change that, with the introduction of the new 508 Fastback. It's a striking looking car, but is it enough to tempt buyers away from Germany's finest? I spent a week with it to find out.
The model on test here is the Allure, which sits just above the base model (Active) and starts from a price of £26,339. Standard features include 17" alloys, keyless entry, 10" touchscreen, DAB radio, Bluetooth, smartphone connectivity, navigation, dual zone climate control, i-Cockpit, front and rear parking sensors, 180 degree parking camera, plus more.
Fitted to the model here is the 1.5 litre diesel, which produces 130hp and is mated to a 6-speed manual.

Hi all, thanks for watching my review of the 508 Fastback. Just a bit of housekeeping; as pointed by an eagled eyed (well, an eagle eared viewer), in this video I've quoted the torque as 221Nm when in fact that is the figure in lb ft. In terms of Nm, it's actually 300, so it appears I must have mis-read the spec sheet...Apologies, #schoolboyerror 😞
Wife has a C220 premium, she test drove the 508 gt and bought one same day. No more badge obsession as this car is great, kitted and looks as well as it drives. The estate version look fooking mean
Beautiful looking car - Peugeot seem to have THE eye for design right now. Excellent, useful review.
Thanks Martin, I'm glad you enjoyed the video, thanks for watching.
The new 508 is definitely the greatest French car since the Citroen DS and the Peugeot 504
I only wish it had a 400 plus horse power GTI version with an air suspension .
400 horse comming soon with the hybrid version ! ^^
@@DurianObriedthat's great news,it will definitely be a winner when it comes out.
Looks like a spaceship from inside, looks really good, more value for money than a german car too. A simple remap on the 220bhp engine would make this a sleeper
Imagine a sporty version with, let's say, a V6 under the bonnet... That would be rather tasty, although I very much doubt Peugeot would go down that route. Thanks for watching Abdul.
@@CarObsession I agree, it would be more fun to have more cars go down that route, like how it is in America, Toyotas and Hondas with 6 cylinder engines
@@CarObsession A meaty GTI version of 508 would be lovely; especially if it had a manual box.
Callum Ja Simple, buy an old 406 V6 or 608 series and do an engine swap. The old 406 V6 was a sweet car to drive, and in fact I think the best of all the pugs that I have ever owned!
508 pse coming out next year with 400 bhp
Great Video Review. The new Peugeot 508 Is a great alternative to Its German Rivals
You're right there, Jamie; the 508 is a legitimate alternative, not just a left-field choice. Thanks for watching, Jamie.
Thank you for this.
Ive been waiting.
No worries Ivana, thanks for watching.
Great review as always, and a really good looking car.
Cheers buddy, thanks for watching.
Fantastic, well researched and filmed video. Love it. Keep up the good work mate.
Thank you very much Simon; this video was a bit of a pain to put together, so I'm really glad you enjoyed it.
@@CarObsession I like it even though I wouldn't buy a Peugeot 😀 I will keep you posted about my A1 if you don't get chance to review one by March/April.
Cheers Simon, I'd greatly appreciate that 👍
Such a pretty car!
Great review Aaron. Gorgeous car inside and out. Stunning in white or red!
There's a blue it looks really good in as well. Thanks for watching, Andrew.
@@CarObsession Must check out the blue one (my favourite colour). :-)
It's called Celebes Blue. I must admit, it doesn't look that great on the website, but it looks better in real life.
@@CarObsession Great, thank you.
Merci enfin un qui essaye une nouvelle 508 manuelle, good video
Je suis content que tu aies aimé, merci d'avoir regardé
amazing beautiful car😁
Stunning
Also new camera mate? Looking great quality wise!
Nah mate, I've had the same camera setup since March, Mind you, I have start using a different lens lately, so that could be. I've had the lens for quite some time now, but I've started using it more recently. Thanks for watching.
@@CarObsession ok makes sense probably the lens then. Always great quality anyway in fairness mate
Cheers pal!
I have the 8AT 2,0 HDi 2019 red ... well it draws atention :D like hell and it drives good its not a sports car but 180 HP is just enough for this kind of car
Hi Maros, thanks for watching, and thanks for the comment.
Great review mate. I've been quite intrigued by this car. I suppose I've been waiting for Peugeot to do something brilliant again like it did with the 405. I do think this is a great alternative to the predictable Germans. Would I buy one? No, but as a company car I can see this having some success
Thanks for the feedback Jezza, and thanks for watching.
you love it but not going to buy it? You are going for the German predictable ones :-)
@@PTZOUTZ nope. Don't like the German offerings either. I'm a Ford man and I just got a Jimny too :)
Better than germans
What makes you say that? I'm not trying to call you out or anything, I'm just intrigued to hear your thoughts. Thanks for watching Anton 👍
Car Obsession the value of the car and the fact that it is not a boring sedan :)
True, but it will depreciate noticeably more than a German rival and it doesn't drive as well. However, it's a more interesting option and it's quite the head-turner; a lot of people wouldn't believe me when I told them it was a Peugeot.
Car Obsession BUt I thought the whole reason that Peugeot have raised the price on this series to to try and stop the depreciation going down hill! Given how well the 3008 are selling around the world, I think this will do a lot to improve the brand name, and I am sure that they are gained people to the pug community that didn’t exsist before.
From memory, I think Peugeot stated that the 508 should do well when it comes to depreciation, but given the type of car it is, I'll believe that when I see it. Thanks for watching Sheldon.
a pity that this is the basic version exterior including the work on the front and rear lights + the interior with the automatic box really change the style of the car on the higher-end versions
but for a basic version that almost nobody will buy it's not bad anyway
Forza Lazio!!!
Great review. I'm looking at purchasing in Victoria Australia where only the top of range is offered. One engine only 1.6L turbo petrol auto trans only. Great drive but question is it worth $63,000Au. Think not!
Hi Ian, thanks for the feedback and thanks for watching 👍🏽.
I really take exception at this coupé label it's not it a 5 Dr family hatch back there no saloon version on standard hatch so the car is not called 508 coupé, so is the vauxhall insignia a coupé ? No nor is the ford Mondeo , they are hatch backs.
Yes utsva pretty car but to maje so many comprises could be it's down full
Hello Keith, thanks for watching. That's a fair enough point, although I've just been going by what Peugeot has said in their press release. However, I've just looked on their website, and they are now classing it as a saloon...🤔
Idk why this one doesn’t have cool looking rear lights like the one I saw on the road
I imagine the one you saw was a higher spec. Thanks for watching.
It's actually 221ft-lb = 300Nm
Goddammit, that's fecking annoying - I'm normally fastidious when it comes to figures so I'm annoyed with myself for getting that wrong. I must have mis-read the spec sheet... Thanks for alerting me dufonrafal, and thanks for watching.
@@CarObsession Ah ah, no worry :)
At school I was told to check if the value seemed logic. And 221NM for a 130hp diesel, just doesn't make sense :D
Yeah, I must admit, I did think it was a bit low at the time #numpty🙈
Shocked about the leather seats costing 1300... In german cars you get them for free... :-) or not?... hmmm
Yes ir is free but thé car will cost you 10,000 more
Nothing free on price of car to start off with and a more expensive car than the peugeot
The steering wheel in those cars is not good.
Yes, it does take getting used to - thanks for watching.
what's with the white supremacist hand sign?
What do you mean?
He flashes a known white power symbol at 1:07...
What you mean at 1:07? Dude, you are reading WAY too much in to that, I was simply signifying making an OK gesture to show my approval of the car's design. I cannot understand how you've gained any other context from that,
@@td6460 Mate, I was making an OK symbol - you're reading WAY too much in to my friend. My family is half black, so why on earth would I be making white power signs with any kind of intent? Frankly, I find such an accusation insulting. I was making an 'OK' sign, nothing more, nothing less - please do not dress it up to be something it isn't.
@@td6460 And for what it's worth, I didn't know it was a 'supposed' white power sign as funnily enough, I don't happen to spend a lot of time with like minded people, nor do I take a lot of interest in that area, as like most people on this Earth, I'm not really a fan of racism....
