Man I would of loved a open world game staring the Boss and her Cobra Unit in world war two. Do like a buddy system where the Boss could take a member and each member offered a advantage. ie the end being a scout like quiet or the sorrow reading soldiers minds and updating your map.
Noooo! I would have loved a Metal Gear Solid game featuring the Boss from MGS III During World War II. It makes me so sad that it is probably never going to happen....
Not by Konami... they will fucked it up. They fucked everything up when Kojima is not around. Every MGS games done 100% by Kojima was legendary MGS/MGS3/MGS4. Every MGS games Konami change his idea/force him to do something he don't want to is not as great MGS2/MGS5/MGSRV EVERY MGS GAME THAT KONAMI PRODUCED WITHOUT KOJIMA IS ABSOLUTE SHIT. He design the characters. He wrote all the lore and stories. He pretty much is everything the organs, the heart, the limbs and the brain of MGS franchise. His contribution for this franchise is legendary like it was his own children. Without him KONAMI cannot produce anything nearly as half good as Kojima works. If Kojima is not the one doing it then it's time to end this series misery for good.
9:00 Yeah, that much enemy AI wouldn't have likely been all too workable on the PS2 when trying to work all the other stuff the Emotion Engine was handling. Just kick and knock over the Marines by domino effect in the tanker chapter and you get to see what happens when dozens of "enemies" have to be animated and physicalized (even though they are not ragdolls) all at once along with the rather simple AI. Later in on the Arsenal Gear, the number of Tengu fought at once by Raiden and Snake is kept pretty well controlled. General integer processing, which I imagine would be most needed for decent AI was not the Emotion Engine's strong suit by a long shot.
I was so excited for metal gear solid rising.. An interquel between 2 and 4 about raiden being turned into the cyborg, rescuing sunny from the patriots at area 51, etc sounded great. Plus it involved the sneaking stealth mechanics with advanced mgs2 sword physics.. I was super excited. First game i ever preordered AND paid for fully first visit. When it was scrapped for what ultimately released, i was heartbroken. Rising revengeance was decent as an action gane.. As far as mgs canon, i count it as an non canon spinoff. It didnt handle raiden the right way at all, AT ALL. i could list stuff all day. The action was decent, but none of it felt like it would work in mgs's world It felt like something raiden's son john would pretend/imagine his father doing when he said he reminded him of a super hero. Thats the only way i personally could accept it as canon.
Hey Everyone, I'm Alexander Kozina, the writer for this video. I had a great time putting together this retrospective look at the Metal Gear series' cancelled projects, and hope to make many more videos in the future with GVMERS about weird, arcane video game projects that never saw the light of day. In the mean time, I'll be in the comments for the next hour and a bit, so feel free to ask me your burning questions and concerns, should you have them!
Hey dude, appreciate the effort. Way more than I appreciate a naked Ted Cruz garbling the man balls of Sarah Palin on my vacation home floor in November. That was actually pretty damn disgusting. Anyhow; great work. Really opened my perspective to the background of MGS. #fuckonami Peace. -G
@WiiAllTheWayHome There was indeed content cut from the end of Metal Gear Solid 2 late into its development in response to the events of 9/11, such as a cutscene that depicted Arsenal Gear crashing through the Statue of Liberty and wrecking half of Manhattan, as well as Raiden cutting the rope on the Federal Hall's flagpole, causing the flag to cover Solidus' lifeless body. Ultimately, I wanted my focus of this video to specifically be on Metal Gear games and ideas that were shelved early on in their production; the Metal Gear Solid 2 Arsenal Gear stuff occupied a sort of odd spot that didn't really jive with the rest of video's content. However, we might bring it up in a future Metal Gear Solid video.
I wonder so much about this What is like to work under kojima. Look I get it fucking konami but there ALWAYS 2 side of a story And about the Document's and where did you get it and all the video of kojima in office
@Nuruddin Shah The director pulled the footage from a number of documentaries that you can find online that show off Kojima in his old work environment, such as "Hideo Kojima's Gene" (a documentary about the making of Metal Gear Solid 4). I recommend that you check that video out, as well as "The Truth Behind Rising" and "Metal Gear Solid 2 - The Making of a Hollywood Game." With regards to Kojima and Konami, it's hard to say. Based on my research, Kojima strikes me as an incredibly smart and talented individual - however, he also strikes me as a perfectionist that has very little tolerance for sub-par quality, from both himself and his peers/co-workers. I would conjecture that his desire to make MGSV as perfect as possible resulted in him spending much more time and money than Konami felt to be reasonable, thus leading to the rift between the two.
I would have loved to see that scene with Snake fighting Ocelot at the end. Even switching back for 1 boss battle would have been so satisfying, cause the whole time I played MGS2, I was waiting to play as Snake again
I absolutely LOVE MGS2, but I'd like to play the one Kojima initially conceived. Final showdown at Wall Street with Snake fighting Ocelot and Raiden fighting Solidus? Sign me in.
There were some early MGS4 character concepts, one of which showed a non-ninja Raiden holding a sword and a baby (Sunny most likely). I've always wondered what the original idea was behind that and how it was meant to have been shown in the game. A prequel chapter perhaps?
I love this channel so much!!! Such a humble and under-rated channel, I hope it grows even more up to ATLEAST 1 million, although i'd still say it deserves more.
This is what I like to hear, a deep baritone voice calmly explaining the intricacies of a videogame rather than a high pitched overly excited tenor doped up on sugar trying to cram everything in 10 minutes. You've got your self a subscriber
No one ever talks about Rising, to an extent that satisfies me. The 2010 version had striking potential and it legitimately surprises me that the team couldn't figure out how to make it fun. Over the years I've thought of so many ways that it could have been done and most of my ideas, I came up with pretty quickly after playing MGR. the thing that bothers me most, is just how much better it looks. Not only was it in the FOX engine, but the combat and all animations looked leagues better than the Platinum product.
As a lifelong MGS fan, I just wanna say that this was great, and thank you for doing this bat-shit-crazy yet unfathomably deep and meaningful series some justice. TL;DR You’re pretty good 👍🏼
VERY interesting and informative. The one concept that got me excited was The Boss in an open world Normandy. Oh my god with WW2 weapons!! That would've been so awesome. I already opt to use Christopher Nolans score for Dunkirk when playing MGSV. Kojima doing a WW2 game would've been a dream come true. That's part of the reason Death Stranding has so many people excited
I'd love a remastered version of MSG1, spent half my childhood fucking around with it on European extreme. Using a battery to get through the torture scene.
try out mgs integral, its as close as you'll get to a remastered mgs 1 imo www.reddit.com/r/metalgearsolid/comments/4qlv1c/final_full_release_metal_gear_solid_1_integral_pc/?st=jc659chl&sh=36a5b437
Nice video! Two side notes can be made, though: - Regarding the MGS2 Mantis Mask and seemingly cut ability to "read minds and thoughts" -- it's actually sort of in the game! Only it works the reverse way and allows you to hear Snake's/Raiden's thoughts instead. During codec dialogues just hold R1/RB/Weapon Select button to hear the protagonist's positive inner thought (like "Exactly!" Or "That's so cute I can't bear it..") -- or hold L1/LB/Item Select button to hear the negative thought (like "Definitely not!" or "Get real!"). Works on Every. Single. Codec. Dialogue !!! - Regarding the cut multiplayer PvP battle mode from MGS2. That mode actually got implemented for the Game Boy Color port -- Metal Gear: Ghost Babel (aka Metal Gear Solid GBC). Worked via GBC's Direct Link feature and let two players confront each other in VR as regular and red-colored versions of Solid Snake. With the modern era of widespread emulators I bet you can find a way to experience that mode if interested. Also, similar PvP modes are available in PSP game titles MGS Portable Ops and MGS Peace Walker. Again, can be emulated and enjoyed if you have friends dedicated enough :) I wonder how many elements of the cancelled MGS2 multiplayer PvP have made it into those modes...
its so refreshing to get this type of content without cheesy jokes and forced sarcasm.... saving the "like and subscribe" until the end.... bravo for professionalism and quality
This also failed to mention the cancelled “Metal Gear 3” which was being developed for the Panasonic 3DO in 1995. There is some early concept art depicting what looks like FOXHOUND goo.gl/images/RBXqQ9 The project got cancelled and it’s reasonable to assume the game was the basis of what became Metal Gear Solid on the PS1
The Boss game was extremely enticing but as the series sort of rests on her as a cornerstone/pillar any mistakes in regards to her character or letting us know too much would deminish her as a legend or ruin the games canon as a whole.
I hope Metal Gear Survive bombs so hard that Konami decides to sell the Metal Gear IP back to Kojima, then Kojima can do whatever he want with Metal Gear, it is better letting him having it and deciding what to do with it than letting Konami fuck with something legendary.
I know, and that is what is such a huge shame about it, Konami will most definetily not do a single shit with the Metal Gear IP other than Metal Gear Survive which is a quick cash grab and an excuse to milk the Fox Engine for everything it is worth while it is still a fresh engine. Besides, Metal Gear is -nothing- without the master mind of Hideo Kojima behind it, nothing but an empty shell with the name of the franchise on it. Even though Konami releases future Metal Gear games, fans of the franchise know that it is not really Metal Gear without Kojima. And sure, Kojima wanted to move onto new projects and not work on another Metal Gear Solid game, but if Kojima had the IP, there would atleast be a small chance that something might pop up on the future, besides.. It is better with no future Metal Gear games than to let Konami milk, shame and butcher a great franchise.
Kojima doesn't want metal gear anymore. the IP is not in good hands at Konami but I'd also rather it not be in the hands of someone who is currently very happy doing other things.
Personally I'd rather Kojima have them, like I said earlier. Metal Gear as an IP is nothing without Kojima's brilliant mind behind the story of the game, so I'd rather have no new games, and cherrish and remember the games as the good games they were in Kojima's image. I'd hate to see the franchise go down the drain with half-asses releases such as Metal Gear Survive, which is nothing but a quick cashgrab, copy-paste game to use the Fox Engine at its last legs before it becomes a thing of the past. TL:DR - I'd rather remember the games when they were good, rather than letting Konami put the IP in a bad stop with shameless cashgrabs and garbage story (The concept of Metal Gear Survive is laughable and has nothing to do with Metal Gear, the only reason why it is called Metal Gear is because they can, and in an attempt to lure lesser informed people to purchase the game because they have heard ''Metal Gear'' games are good. Had Metal Gear Survive been a completely new IP and a new name, I wouldn't mind it, heck.. I'd even probably buy it since of the Fox Engine, but I see the cheap and dirty tricks of Konami and I refuse to encourage this type of behavior.) # FucKonami
I love the presentation of this video, holy crap. It feels way more like a historical documentary rather than a typical video essay with the soft pretentious essayist voice. Definitely gonna check out more of your content.
Another awesome analysis. Metal Gear Solid is one of my favorite games and I still remember playing and beating MGS2 on hard all the way at the age of 10 lol. This channel deserves more subscribers
Did you also know Kojima wanted Metal gear solid 3 snake eater to be developed for the PS3. Because he felt the ps2 wasn't strong enough to keep his original vision intact.
What I honestly would want instead of a MGS Survive, would be just a sandbox game like Phantom Pain on the Fox Engine, but with control over someone else. I will agree as many, that the stories are told better with linear gameplay than open ended. Like just let the players control a private force themselves as they do random stuff. Also Revengeance was awesome. As one steam review put it, it lets you shoulder throw a giant mech and then cut it to ribbons while the songs blasts in the back RULES OF NATURE. We can only hope for a sequel there as well. Either way, great vid and great channel. I don't know how I didn't come across this sooner.
At 8.55 you talk about a plan to have the escape with Emma to be a face off with 50 enemy soldiers was cut and not used, in the main game. That is true but it was used in the Snake Tales part of Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance. In the 2nd story called Big Shell Evil Sanke has to lead Emma out of Strut E with a unending stream of soldiers coming after them. BTW Great Video.
>kojima wanted to make a game in Normandy >Death Stranding trailer featuring a scene in what looks like Normandy complete with WW2 soldiers, weapons, and vehicles He'll always get his way in the end
5:10, that sounds like an amazing premise for MGS2, would have been really cool if he went with it. Though tbf MGS2 is already absolutely incredible. I hope konami ask platinum to make an MGR 2
There are gaps for Solid Snakes story leading up to 4 from 2, we don't know Snakes story as Pliskin in Big Shell in 2, we don't know Raidens story leading up to 4 from 2 (hinting at a possibility of MGS Rising still being possible, no I don't mean MGR:Revenegance, I mean the game it was supposed to be before that), all this could be used for MGS games, a spin off for the cobra unit and The Boss would work to
Kojima wanted a game where you play as the boss? Well don't you play as the boss in 3? Granted, he hasn't been given the title yet but it's still the same person. And I'm pretty sure you play as the boss in peacewalker and ground zero. In phantom pain you play as a bootleg knockoff posing as the boss.
Does anyone think we need a Metal Gear Game where we get to play as *The Boss* that way it could show us a backstory of who the boss really was and the kind mission she went on with the Cobra Unit i think it will be the biggest game in the series if it happened a *major prequel*
Would've prefered Kojimas version of metal gear rising than what we got i mean they worked on the OG game for 2 years before scrapping it all and giving it to platinum games who did it in 11 months :(

Man I would of loved a open world game staring the Boss and her Cobra Unit in world war two. Do like a buddy system where the Boss could take a member and each member offered a advantage. ie the end being a scout like quiet or the sorrow reading soldiers minds and updating your map.
Like Sniper Elite fir example
For example
Noooo! I would have loved a Metal Gear Solid game featuring the Boss from MGS III During World War II. It makes me so sad that it is probably never going to happen....
The entire series needs a remaster.
Not by Konami... they will fucked it up.
They fucked everything up when Kojima is not around.
Every MGS games done 100% by Kojima was legendary MGS/MGS3/MGS4.
Every MGS games Konami change his idea/force him to do something he don't want to is not as great MGS2/MGS5/MGSRV
EVERY MGS GAME THAT KONAMI PRODUCED WITHOUT KOJIMA IS ABSOLUTE SHIT.
Thats like 12 to 20 games.
And Metal gear rising needs a sequel.
Emulate it. Konami doesn't deserve your money.
@@machudaimarunrak6292 i agree with you on mgs5 but i think msg2 was good and mgsr was up to the standards of the metal gear series.
Dang it, now I want metal gear solid game with Boss as the MC.
Along with Noclip, this channel pumps out some really polished and professional looking and sounding gaming content. Keep it up guys!
Well for MGS2, unfortunately due to 9/11, a significant portion of the ending was changed.
Kevin Varela was wondering why he didn't mention it
Do we know what was supposed to happen?
They just cut the cinematic of arsenal crashing into manhattan.
Not only that, all the flags were removed and a line of Solidus was stripped away.
The line that Solidus said was: "9/11 was an inside job."
9:00 Yeah, that much enemy AI wouldn't have likely been all too workable on the PS2 when trying to work all the other stuff
the Emotion Engine was handling.
The action was decent, but none of it felt like it would work in mgs's world
It felt like something raiden's son john would pretend/imagine his father doing when he said he reminded him of a super hero.
Thats the only way i personally could accept it as canon.
Snake? SNAAAAAKE!!!!!!
No mention of the change to not include the attack on new York following 9/11 in mgs2? Was that just a rumor?
I wonder so much about this
What is like to work under kojima. Look I get it fucking konami but there ALWAYS 2 side of a story
And about the Document's and where did you get it and all the video of kojima in office
@Nuruddin Shah The director pulled the footage from a number of documentaries that you can find online that show off Kojima in his old work environment, such as "Hideo Kojima's Gene" (a documentary about the making of Metal Gear Solid 4). I recommend that you check that video out, as well as "The Truth Behind Rising" and "Metal Gear Solid 2 - The Making of a Hollywood Game."
With regards to Kojima and Konami, it's hard to say.
Thanks for always putting so much effort into these...
Gekidami It's gone around the Internet that Metal Gear Solid Rising was about how Raiden saved Sunny from the Patriots. Would've been amazing imo.
I wanted a prequel sooo bad. Would've been awesome to play as the original boss during WW2, but I get how that would've been difficult to pull off.
Guys, I know it's been said a few times already but you really deserve more subs - your videos are beyond fantastic.
Konami should help the remake of the original Metal Gear from 1987 now titled Metal Gear Outer heaven
Missed the oportunity to call this one "Metal Gear: The Phantom Games"
I love this channel so much!!! Such a humble and under-rated channel, I hope it grows even more up to ATLEAST 1 million, although i'd still say it deserves more.
GVMERS kept us waiting.
That's part of the reason Death Stranding has so many people excited
its one of my fav Games
Amazing video. Super interesting. I hope you do more videos on cancelled metal gear games. Thank you for putting the time into it.
wow this is great!!
I found you boundary break and no one else will but I did
Man he is hiding here like a true snake
I'd love a remastered version of MSG1, spent half my childhood fucking around with it on European extreme. Using a battery to get through the torture scene.
try out mgs integral, its as close as you'll get to a remastered mgs 1 imo
www.reddit.com/r/metalgearsolid/comments/4qlv1c/final_full_release_metal_gear_solid_1_integral_pc/?st=jc659chl&sh=36a5b437
Twin Snakes on GameCube...?
yeah that aswell
however i like the music but the va's sound bored unlike the original game sadly :(
and integral comes with VR mode, unlike tts
Nice video! Two side notes can be made, though:
- Regarding the MGS2 Mantis Mask and seemingly cut ability to "read minds and thoughts" -- it's actually sort of in the game!
Again, can be emulated and enjoyed if you have friends dedicated enough :)
I wonder how many elements of the cancelled MGS2 multiplayer PvP have made it into those modes...
We'll never get Metal Gear Solid: Rising, or MGR's Gray Fox sequel, or my personal fav, The Boss' WW2 years. Why are we still here? Just to suffer?
Holy shit, I never thought about a MGS in WW2. That would be amazing. Let's hope someday Kojima and Konami team up again
its so refreshing to get this type of content without cheesy jokes and forced sarcasm.... saving the "like and subscribe" until the end.... bravo for professionalism and quality
I thought this was a documentary but then I realized it's just really good editing and voice acting holy shit you're amazing man
*Yessss a Metal Gear video from GVMERS*
Wow, just discovered this channel and was floored by the content here. This is the kind of stuff I want to see more of on RUclips.
This also failed to mention the cancelled “Metal Gear 3” which was being developed for the Panasonic 3DO in 1995.
There is some early concept art depicting what looks like FOXHOUND goo.gl/images/RBXqQ9
The project got cancelled and it’s reasonable to assume the game was the basis of what became Metal Gear Solid on the PS1
Subscribed in the first 30 seconds. Great channel full of knowledge and respect for the industry, thank you!
They went as far as considering a confrontation with SHARKS. Kohima and his team are unbelievable! His creativity knows no limit.
I really do appreciate this channel. Criminally underrated content.
Excellent, GVMERS. Age hasn't slowed you down one bit.
I’d love a Metal Gear game with Liquid Snake as the protagonist. Metal Gear Liquid. 😬
Vega Vega they won't give up the ip.
I'd even probably buy it since of the Fox Engine, but I see the cheap and dirty tricks of Konami and I refuse to encourage this type of behavior.)

Do more of this
I love learning about concepts and designs from games I like
Content like this is why you are one of my favorite channels.
I think everybody wants that game starring The Boss and her Cobra Unit in Normandy
I never knew Yoko Ono also goes by the name Hideo Kojima, so much now makes sense.
I keep expecting these videos to end with:
"Directed by Ken Burns"
Dude...this channel is freaking amazing. Needs more subscribers
Would've loved a sequel to MGRR I really enjoyed the first one it honestly had so much potential to be even better with a sequel.
The guy narrating this video has an amazing voice. Its like I'm watching a documentary on TV. Subbed!
I love the presentation of this video, holy crap. It feels way more like a historical documentary rather than a typical video essay with the soft pretentious essayist voice. Definitely gonna check out more of your content.
Amazing! I'm so glad that someone created this! It is very descriptive and interesting. Thank you! Keep up the good videos! :)
playing as the boss would be awesome
I see Metal Gear, I click like. I smell Metal Gear, I subscribe. Thank you.
Another awesome analysis. Metal Gear Solid is one of my favorite games and I still remember playing and beating MGS2 on hard all the way at the age of 10 lol. This channel deserves more subscribers
Top shelf video right here.
BUY THE COPYRIGHT FROM KONAMI,PLEASE SONY,SOMEBODY! !
+liquid cyberpunk Just wait.. Kojima will surprise you :)
liquid cyberpunk I'll do it wen I'm rich
If I win the lottery I would and get kojima to reclaim it lol
As much as I absolutely LOVE this channel, you guys use the phrase "never see the light of day" wayyyy too often
Just a nitpick tho
Rumor has it that "never see the light of day", has officially been retired, save for a possible cameo appearance someday. ;)
Holy shit hey Nitro !!
Did you also know Kojima wanted Metal gear solid 3 snake eater to be developed for the PS3. Because he felt the ps2 wasn't strong enough to keep his original vision intact.
Imagine his vision being remade with the fox engine for PS4. The fox engine patchinko is possibly a message saying that snake water remake is coming.
Wth is this channel, why is this quality so good and yet so underated ?!
A MGS game starting The Boss would be so badass!
*Hears White Blood as background song*
*instantly likes*
"Translated by Mark Laidlaw"
God damn I didn't need any more reasons to love that guy. He's the fucking bomb.
This channel is so professional. It's almost as if I'm watching the gaming equivalent of the history channel.
Hideo Kojima & Yoji Shinkawa are True Legends™
Thank you!
Great work!
Ventila Batuta kkkqkqlllkkkkkkkkkklllllo k kjmwmqmmqmqkqkqkkqkqjqkwjkkqkqqi qqqmmqmm
When you have MASSIVE chills after the first few seconds thanks to the White Blood song playing.
>kojima wanted to make a game in Normandy
>Death Stranding trailer featuring a scene in what looks like Normandy complete with WW2 soldiers, weapons, and vehicles
He'll always get his way in the end
As far as I'm concerned MGS story ended with 4 and it's canon was completed with 5, anything that comes after Kojima is a seperate universe.
9:32 an unfinished model of a harrier jump jet can be seen on the desk. The TAV 8b harrier is one of the bosses in MGS2. I just thought this was cool.
Would've prefered Kojimas version of metal gear rising than what we got i mean they worked on the OG game for 2 years before scrapping it all and giving it to platinum games who did it in 11 months :(
It is so sad that Metal Gear Survive is not on this list :'(
They should make mgs 6 starring as bigboss recruiting FoxHound and GrayFox
a game with she-boss would be pretty sweet. i wish they added a mini game in mgs3 to play as her, kinda like vr missions
This is my first time watching this channel. So when I finished watching the video, I got curious and decided to check the sub number. The producing of this video, combined with that dudes voice, should easily push this channel past 1 million subs.
