This song expresses the emotions that everyone has but has never been able to express. It gives you nostalgia for things you've never even experienced before and turns bitter memories of the past sweet. It captures the love of home and innocence. This song is beyond brilliant.

In 2013 I got to see Ben Howard live for the first time in New York. I went from MIA to NYC on my 19th birthday to see him. I was waiting for this song and then Ben came back on stage.I remember being right up front, and this older gentleman was standing next to me in tears. I was young and this song left a big print on my life, but for that gentleman it probably meant something completely different and yet at that moment we were just so connected.

So deep and moving. You can feel the climb, the struggle, the frustration-, the desperation, finally the freedom of the now weightless soul moving on- the love.
It doesn't matter what moment of my life i am in, this song just shuts me up and makes me think and cry every time... Not everyone will understand the calm and nostalgia this one brings
This song brings me joy for it reminds me of those that I love so deeply. It makes me appreciate ervey beautiful flower and the warmth of the sun upon my face. It brings me hope that those who I love so deeply and lost in this life will be waiting for me to come home in the next. ❤
this is beyond what a human can comprehend. The utter emotion that spills from him makes me feel as though all is good, and will get better. This song is not just a piece of art but a journey. I believe what the song "Promise" is really trying to tell the story of a visit to a lost loved ones grave. Meet me there, with bundles of flowers We’ll wait through the hours of cold Winter she’ll howl at the walls Tearing down doors of time Shelter as we go He is talking about meeting her at her grave with flowers, like people typically do to people they love who have died. Here they can be together and share how difficult it is waiting to see the other once again, “wading through the hours of cold.” It is difficult, but he views it as a way to break through the life/death/time boundary, and it is a thought that protects him from the cold he faces in life. And promise me this: You’ll wait for me only Scared of the lonely arms That surface, far below these burn And maybe, just maybe, I’ll come home Obviously asking her to wait for him on the other side, whether it be because he is scared of death or he may think he is going to Hell which is “that surface far below these burn.” But just maybe, he will join her in heaven. Who am I, darling to you? Who am I to tell you stories of mine? Who am I? I think here he starts to break down, wondering if possibly she isn’t there on the other side, if she even wants to listen to him when he speaks about his daily life and stories he has, or if he was as important to her as she was to him. Who am I, darling for you? Who am I to be your burden in time, lonely Who am I, to you? If she is there, who is he to force her to wait at death’s gate for him? Why should he leave her with the burden of waiting there for him while he gets to live his life down on earth? Does he even mean that much to her? Who am I darling for you? Who am I to be your burden? Who am I darling to you? Who am I? Reiterating the same thoughts, but likely either in a way that is telling her to go, realising that she has made the choice to go herself, or that she was never there in the first place. I come alone here I come alone here He is sitting there alone, she isn’t there on the other side anymore listening to him, if she ever was. He seems to want to still come here in the future though, even alone.

Just saw him live in Vienna a few days ago, and he played this amazing song. To this day, I still get chills every time i hear it. And to hear it live, surrounded by a crowd of fellow souls who have relied on his music for all these years to get through some sh*t in life... it was one of the best memories I will cherish. I’m so jealous. Been listening to Ben for years and still come back here every now and then. Helped me get through the hardest parts in my life. Even though it is just a song, it’s worth a lot to me. In my opinion the best song ever written.
After all these months.. I wish every person could experience the feeling i have while listening to this song. Reality dissapears, something out of this world.
I have just found out this song a couple of days ago while watching a movie, i can't stop listening to it ever since. I don't think this song could get any more perfect and i wish i knew it way sooner.. Feeling sad and happy at the same time, like it's opening wounds just to heal them. I find myself having all my windows open laying in bed feeling the wind blowing trough my bedroom doing nothing but listening to this song. For hours.

I come back here every now and then, this video- and song makes me feel like nothing in this world does. Words can't express how much this song means to me, it's like opening wounds just to heal them.
Sliding through, awake, tears for having come back, old memories gone, tabula rasa, a fresh beginning, same old souls, different faces, laughter, sadness, discovery, hatred... A new challenge, keeping your head up, love, obsession, maturity and happiness. The joys of youth and whistling through the nights, friends. Nightmares, reality is bittersweet... Broken heart, once, twice, countless times. A pause, an epiphany, death? Too much to do, still... Found myself adrift, caught. Why dreaming when life is sweeter? Listen and float!

This song took me and a friend through a hard night, after going back to a place where a civil war once took place, after facing our demons of the past. This song put the peace and hope back into our hearts. Thank you for that, Ben.
Been around here for years and don't see myself living without this song/video. Literally makes me feel in a way that nothing else does, one day i will die, leave this planet and this song will be playing on my funeral
I don't know if this makes sense to anyone else, but it's beautiful WATCHING them make music. It just adds a whole mother layer to the beauty of this groups work.
why cant songs like THIS be in the mainstream. Billions of people should experience music like this and feel the lump in their throat welt up when they find themselves thinking about something that's near and dear to them. Simply beautiful.
I come here almost every day for months now. I honestly would't know what i'd do without this song, it literally gives me emotions which i never experienced before. Like opening wounds just to heal them, i can't thank Ben and the person uploading this video enough. No words can describe how i feel about this piece of art. Once again, thank you both so much, you saved me

Meet me there, with bundles of flowers

He is talking about meeting her at her grave with flowers, like people typically do to people they love who have died. Here they can be together and share how difficult it is waiting to see the other once again, “wading through the hours of cold.” It is difficult, but he views it as a way to break through the life/death/time boundary, and it is a thought that protects him from the cold he faces in life.
And promise me this:

Obviously asking her to wait for him on the other side, whether it be because he is scared of death or he may think he is going to Hell which is “that surface far below these burn.” But just maybe, he will join her in heaven.
Who am I, darling to you?
Who am I to tell you stories of mine?

I think here he starts to break down, wondering if possibly she isn’t there on the other side, if she even wants to listen to him when he speaks about his daily life and stories he has, or if he was as important to her as she was to him.
Who am I, darling for you?
Who am I to be your burden in time, lonely

Just saw him live in Vienna a few days ago, and he played this amazing song. To this day, I still get chills every time i hear it. And to hear it live, surrounded by a crowd of fellow souls who have relied on his music for all these years to get through some sh*t in life... it was one of the best memories I will cherish. Such an incredible song.
I’ve been at the same concert in Vienna. So amazing.I love this song so much. Ben is my favorite for years now.
yessss!!! @@BiberHoehne-om5bb
I’m so jealous. Been listening to Ben for years and still come back here every now and then. Helped me get through the hardest parts in my life. Even though it is just a song, it’s worth a lot to me. In my opinion the best song ever written.
i literally would’ve melted into the floor
Despite my love for music, I'm not one to cry during songs. But this song brings me to tears, every time.
Best singer songwriter nowdays.
Álvaro Avivar Luque I wholeheartedly agree
After all these months.. I wish every person could experience the feeling i have while listening to this song. Reality dissapears, something out of this world.
The end of this song on this live version makes it so much better then the album version
the faces of the audience 🥰
I have just found out this song a couple of days ago while watching a movie, i can't stop listening to it ever since. I don't think this song could get any more perfect and i wish i knew it way sooner.. Feeling sad and happy at the same time, like it's opening wounds just to heal them. I find myself having all my windows open laying in bed feeling the wind blowing trough my bedroom doing nothing but listening to this song. For hours.
If you're up for suggestions, I would recommend Small Things, Keep your head up, black flies... Well just pretty much every song he has, he's awesome.
first 10 seconds and im already tearing up. holy shit. he's done it. again and again and again.
I don't know you personally, i however think music connects people in some beautiful way. Heres a reminder for you to listen to this song once more. Perhaps it makes you feel better when you have a bad day.
i forget to breathe when i hear this song. it is like a paralytic to my mind, body, and soul.
This song got me through some dark shit back in the day....
One of the greatest songs of all time
October 2024 and having only this year discovered this soul & spirit stirring maestro im now a enthused follower of the art that is Ben Howard 🫶🏽
October 24-this is my favorite version.
Came here through House MD..episode Chase...this song broke me down completely...! Thank you!

This song always puts me in a place of zen. Arguably one of his best.
omg,this is amazing😢
I come back here every now and then, this video- and song makes me feel like nothing in this world does. Words can't express how much this song means to me, it's like opening wounds just to heal them.
Don’t worry folks, you’re not the only one listening to this absolute masterpiece in 2021... 💙
Ben......... No words that compare to your's ❤. Thank you
This song makes my heart warm and soul happy.
This song will always remind me of Dr. Robert Chase (House MD) and Mike Ross (Suits) - poignant scenes that will remain etched forever in TV history

House M.D..... was the first time i heard Ben Howard
Wesley Ramos Me too

بارك الله فيك ألف مرة في كل مأوى ونحن نمضي ,
💙 وعد. وعد. 💙
The most perfect live version of any song I have ever heard
Sliding through, awake, tears for having come back, old memories gone, tabula rasa, a fresh beginning, same old souls, different faces, laughter, sadness, discovery, hatred... A new challenge, keeping your head up, love, obsession, maturity and happiness. The joys of youth and whistling through the nights, friends. Nightmares, reality is bittersweet... Broken heart, once, twice, countless times. A pause, an epiphany, death? Too much to do, still... Found myself adrift, caught. Why dreaming when life is sweeter?
Listen and float!
I wish I was there ... I can't explain with words where this song takes me.
I'm so jealous, would have payed so much just to be here.. This song is engraved in my hearth just by seeing it on RUclips, let alone live.
im simply crying....tho this is a live performanced he sang and played beautifully.
it just really pretty no words can describe this melodies, only our heart :')
God Bless you Ben!
totally agree :)
Raw, brilliant, un commercialized, genuine. The most authentic song I’ve ever heard.
Uncommercialized? He doesn't sell albums?
@@jean-marcsanmarco6842 he meant that promise wasn't made just to be sold, as all his songs in my opinion. You just can see emotions through the verse, his voice and his guitar. If magic exists, I guess it's pretty much like this
It moves me.
i remember when i used to sleep on this song everyday for almost a whole year 2016, Damn!!! the time is going really fast ,, 4 years from now and alot has changed since then, am not sure anymore what gonna change more!!
I want to become an animator solely on the purpose to animate his songs. They bring vivid pictures in my mind. :)
i'd love to see your animations for his songs!
Warene Spence please do! I'll wait for it
I've thought the same always
Any update?
With this song in the House series , Chase meets a nun with whom he falls in love but it can not be . a very intense chapter.
Best House episode for sure. Got me teary eyed
@@pwade92 House MD Season 8 Episode 12
This always takes me back to a place I love, miss, and wish I could forget about.
Listen this song on 3:30 am date 31/03/2021 (Karachi, Pakistan).
Love you Ben for this.
Listening to this song for the first time in years and I have full body goosebumps. It’s the most perfect song. The crowd was stunningly silent!
The music that means hope to me, now hurts me till the bones. Broken promises
I just spent 5min trying to explain why this song is amazing… fuck it man.
Unreal song
Perfect❤
Its a magical moment when he says: "Hello Cologne". Like calling out for a loved one in the dark.
where does he say that?
Shayan Farrukh right at the start, before he begins playing. When the crowd cheers.
Sure he wasn't talking about his perfume?
This song took me and a friend through a hard night, after going back to a place where a civil war once took place, after facing our demons of the past. This song put the peace and hope back into our hearts. Thank you for that, Ben.
If there is every a song i can go back to, this is it
Probably one of the most beautiful songs ever written
The best anyone has ever made, period.
Still listening to this in 2021. It was also my most played song on Spotify in 2020. This song is not a song, it's an experience.
2023 and I'm still here =)
why cant songs like THIS be in the mainstream. Billions of people should experience music like this and feel the lump in their throat welt up when they find themselves thinking about something that's near and dear to them. Simply beautiful.
It's very hard to put this feeling into words. Its beyond perfect.
Вдохновляет как Молитва!!!
This makes me remember the prettiest, sweetest and loving girl
I come here almost every day for months now. I honestly would't know what i'd do without this song, it literally gives me emotions which i never experienced before. Like opening wounds just to heal them, i can't thank Ben and the person uploading this video enough. No words can describe how i feel about this piece of art. Once again, thank you both so much, you saved me
My 60th birthday is quickly approaching but I've never lost my love of music. My daughter introduced me to Ben Howard a few years ago and in my opinion he's up there with the best: Floyd/Gilmour, Harper, Led Zeppelin...…..
Dr. House brought me here. So thankful
Me too!!
HOUSE!!! I used to love that show and watched every season, I knew about the dog before the episode with Chase but I thought it was a perfect song for those last scenes.
Me too, some years ago. That episode was the denouement of the entire series.
me to 😔😔😔
Music = Universal Language
Ben and India are the perfect combination for my ears. So lovely!
Thank you for sharing this underrated masterpiece
This is my favourite piece of music in the world
There's something magical about this song, just perfect.
I really like it when people just sit to enjoy the music
OMOR KHAN it’s not just music, but an experience 💛
