WOW! That drone...I LOVE IT!!!! First time I have ever seen or heard a Hurdy-Gurdy. My son sent me this, knowing how much I love bagpipes. I am really glad he did.
You know what Mary? I thought the very exact thing when I first heard this 3 days ago. I love that drone, so glad to see someone else hears it like I do😉
My father used to play the accordian very well when he was alive. This reminds me of the instrument and how much I miss hearing it. Fasinating instrument.
All of these players are incredibly talented. But for showing the amazing variety of sounds and styles this instrument can produce, it's gotta be Matthias Loibner: ruclips.net/video/2xXQisMdz7A/видео.html
Also, check out Cellar Darling, if you haven't. It's the original hurdy-gurdy player from Eluvetiie (along with two other former Eluveitie members), and her skills have only improved.
Well, you and I have gone the same way the same key points. Next stop: Russian folk songs in modern arrangement. Otava Yo, Reelroad. Like it - ask, I'll give some more.
I love Eluveitie too. I heard this instrument the first time with them. Beautiful sound and melody. Congratulations on the beautiful songs Andrey Vinogradov.
Practice, practice and even more practice. I've started learning this instrument half a year ago and only now I'm getting some independence in my hands. Learning a piano or other stringed instrument in which you have to move your hands independently does really help.
No it really doesn't. If anything, it sounds a bit like Swedish folk music from the 17-18th century. That's at least 700 years late so it's like saying that medieval music sounds modern. Sure, but not.
@@dliessmgg that's wrong. the early russians were ruled by old norse nobles, but they were not norse. they were slavs, a very different group. If they were really descended from the norse, russian would feel a lot more like maybe icelandic, but this is not the case, and the differences can't just be chalked up to being ruled by the mongols for a very long time.

They're not! What you've probably seen are tunes from contemporary pagan/folk groups that are used to play in minor keys. If you're interested in music featuring hurdy-gurdy there are plenty of beautiful tunes even in major keys. Just an example: ruclips.net/video/jr38DPLH4q0/видео.html Anyway in folk and traditional music is very common to listen to change of modes, scales and tonality in the same song, so maybe you can find a tune that starts in major but after some minutes goes in minor, then in Dorian mode or Phrygian, etc. It's an amazing world of great music!
Dear Mr. Vinogradov,I've come to listen to your music by chance on Facebook someone posted a video with you; however your music is a bliss.Thank you for being amongst us and sharing your music artistry. God bless you!

If you enjoy this, I'd recommend checking out Patty Gurdy

I love this instrument, heard it first with Eluveitie (great folk metal)... I love hammered dulcimer as well ....hail the king!!!
I love that instrument too (besides Ocarina). Maybe, you´d also like Omnia, or Patty Gurdy, or Alina Gingertail.
Also, check out Cellar Darling, if you haven't. It's the original hurdy-gurdy player from Eluvetiie (along with two other former Eluveitie members), and her skills have only improved.
Eluveitie is one of the greatest bands in existence.
If you're down for some singing in other languages, I'd recommend checking out Faun, I really enjoy their German album Von den Elben
once the instrument of kings, turn beggars and all but forgotten. Some beauties truly linger in halflights, barely remembered and alive.
It calls to my soul, a half-remembered plaintive chant, buried in my past lives...
oh MY!!
I wish that I could give this melody five Likes, at once!
Hi
This is so awesome. I was listening to metal, then to Paganini, and now RUclips has brought me here!
My mind is kind of blown. Beautiful music

This is beautiful! I may even buy the CD, which is the highest praise that I can give a musician because I am broke. ;-)
What a fantastic musical instrument with a very unique sound. Beautiful
The perfect droning instrument. Like a bagpipe, but softer and more enjoyable. 5:27 Very non-chalant turn back into minor.

Drops that beat at 4:21, parts of my body were just compelled to begin moving on their own. Damn that's a fine melody!
Drops the beat lol
Love you, Mr.
Andrey Vinogradov. Your music is very wonderful!

Astonishing. I didn't know that the hurdy gurdy could be made to sound so incredible.
With the buzz it makes it sound like two different instruments, which is awesome
Amazing! Thank you for this fabulous russian song
this is crazy i like how u keep the other rhythm with the right hand

i have listened to this song at least 50 times... sounds so ''viking''ish and i love it :D
Actually, the early Russians are descended from old Swedish nobles, so in a way they are vikings.

Good sir, you deserve a like, at the very least

Subbed and rang the bell!
This is such a strange and yet beutiful instrument. I have to ask: What is the crank turning, exactly?
That wheel in the middle, it makes contact with and vibrates the strings kind of like the bow on a violin.
You should add bandcamp
I'm not sure from where this music origins from but this piece sounded like a wedding march to me :-o

I gave this video a like. However, I have have seen many Hurdy-Gurdy videos and all the music seems to be in a minor key

is it possible to release sheet music for this piece? I'd like to learn it :)
How do you make that buzzing sound? It has rhythmic pattern, so it must be intentional.
he speeds up when he need it - look closely to the handle - during these buzzes it accelerates a little
That's what I thought too. Its really rhythmic speed control.pretty awesome
There is a specific part of the hurdy gurdy that, when you speed up it contacts a string and makes the buzzing sound.
@@WindWolfAlpha Top set of strings have the buzz bridge.
Gracias
