This was a really fun match to watch, definitely shows the true potential of the Japanese. With almost half the resource as income they still managed to hold the line and even push through. GG
that sounds like they gonna get nerfed somehow :V, it is a bit anti-rts to make a civ that can go only inf and not be punished by it..., feels like they gonna reduce their speed a bit.

Braindead broken civ. Easiest to play, no micro required. No map presence/control required. Don’t even need to get relics. Just make 1 unit the entire game and A move.
@@user-bn1ns6xp3i Everytime I see a comment about the new civs it is OP (Except for Byzantines). Japanese because of their deflective amors and the Floating gate. Zhu Xi's because of their imperial mounted gards which is by far the best cavalry of the game. Ayyubids with their military aisle (I believe) which pops at some point for free several units per minute, Jeanne d'Arc with the hero herself being too powerful, etc...

I think it was a good idea from Dyukusi to mix in the hand cannons along with the Ozutsu. The durability, extra range and building damage versus the faster firing rate mean they both have their merits
It was early game (army-wise), there weren’t enough units out to justify the AOE.
yeah, absolutely. even in late game, I'm not so sure the aoe damage overcomes the difference in firing rate though. Defo not if a spread formation is used, which any decent player is gonna do against aoe units tbh. That said, I should probably have included the lower gold cost of hand cannons compared to ozutsu, making them easier to mass. How I like to do it in late game is to use my free tickets on ozutsu and buy the hand cannons as I would normally with gold and food. Disclaimer: I'm an absolute pleb at the game, and we are still very much at the early stages of understanding the new civs. I really just wanted to show my appreciation of what I thought was a good way of utilizing the new units without completely making an army comprising of just them.
@@Eoin1 even simply forcing the enemy to do a spread formation is good value. But the damage they can do to buildings is insane.
good point, and yeah, watching a small group of them one-shot an outpost is pretty sweet
Heard it mentioned a few times, would love to see a Japan 3tc build order, just started playing around with it but haven’t found the one.

Cool matchup. I didn't expect infantry to be the meat of the battle, so it's definitely changing how I view Japanese! What do you think about the banner units? Which one are more important? Does it only depend on your counters or is a specific mix giving better buffs or something?
We need more games like this !! This was so was so much fun to watch, the English were very good, they held a long time against the best civilization in the game (japanese), i think the tables would have turned if the English player got the upgrade for the Longbows and Crossbows
ozutsu feels like overkill more than normal cannoners, and i think they gonna do them dirty like catapults, making them more of a infantery-siegue unit,

I’ve been maining Japanese (not at this level but all the same) and my go-to for the first two Yorishiro is always one to the barracks and one to the forge. I always have great food economy but need that bit of gold and then I pump units.
Admittedly though, I’m usually pumping units in Feudal and aiming to end the game shortly after the Castle Age production boost takes effect - I hate late game battles a lot.
Makes sense to me that if they’re rushing imperial he’ll want to have a unit production advantage, and 4 minutes can be a long time to wait for the third Yorishiro to get that advantage.
Regardless of that - I noticed from day 1 that the Japanese has the potential to hold the line with a lesser economy in a way that no civ can. Although just in gold where people make constant mistakes, I am only scared to go 1tc against a 2tc opponent if they’re one of the civs which spam hard.
Great cast! I’m curious though. Even with the rams. Would Japan have won this with their recent nerf? The forge income wouldn’t be as high, ozutsu wouldn’t have ate through that keep as quickly. The English was looking good. I’m wondering if the tables would be different now.

i feel like if u want aoe - getting a rebuldiquin is better than the orsitzu, however the anti building is nice for clearing light buildings i guess
The handcannoner sounds more Majima from the Yakuza series, a little more aloof but still very lethal

is there a reason why japanese dont get melee attack upgrades? ive seen it being completely ignored now in a few games, but isnt it great for the samurai?
They do, they even have one in the dark age, they're just not shown in the UI because they're not the generic ones. Eco upgrades are also bugged, Dyukusi did have them, they're just not shown.

By adaptability you mean a unit that’s so braindead broken that you can use it against anything ? Yeah that’s not adaptability, you’re not adapting to anything. You’re just spamming 1 broken unit the entire game and A moving.
I don't no why but I feel like the HRE Man-at-arms would absoloutly destroy the Japanese Samurai because they have these heavy Maces....

Japanese feels like a better English. Both are super defensive, but Japan actually get somewhere by defending.
Toi much défensive and some of the best castles, maa and siege infantry units…

I still think Rams are too tanky, he has what? a couple dozen of imperial units over them and they just tank it. They are supposed to eat arrow fire like breakfast but not melee. And these were not wandering towns upgraded rams

I would like Samurai Nerf Armor since they don't carry shield as most MAA
When you mention Balance and anyone wants to say that the Order of the Dragon units are balanced for their health, damage and pop space. Japanese Samurai do 3 less damage the Order of the Dragon MAA. You get twice the damage, twice the armor faster production with the Japanese compared to the Order of the dragon.
Going by amount of resources the units take to make vs what you get for those resources. Japanese is a beast and arguable broken as none of that civ is balanced for anything.
And you see this in everything the Dev team does. Then will Nerf the living hell out of one civ in the name of balance, then make everything with another civ so broken there isn't enough brain cells to comprehend how bad that did with that civ.

The Japanese player did not even get wheel barrel or any of his eco upgrades for wood and gold. That should explain some of the differences
They did, you can see them researching at certain points (e.g. 16:50), but the UI is bugged for japanese.
ozutsu are really bad actually. fire rate is the most important thing in units, is like they do half the damage handcannoniers do. Also you need a lot of them if you want to destroy keeps, and a single bombard is better, faster to make and it cost less in terms of space and res. I don't know why you think ozutsu need a nerf..
Because you shouldn’t be comparing the ozutsu to the handcannoneer but the mangonel. The ozutsu does seven times the dps of the mangonel for a third of the cost.
@@XyloWang have you tried them on enemy troops? The area of damage effect is very tiny compared to a mangonel so..

@@XyloWangthey don't even do double damage of mangonels, they suck against normal units because of their slow attack speed and very small AOE. They're mainly for to be used against the Buildings for push

The new civ are to strong, japan with the Bannerarmy... no chance for the english guys. Its not good balanced
No eco upgrades japan versus all eco upgrades english.
not entirely correct - Japan has it's unique replacement of wheelbarrow (see 8:04) and also the bonus from upgrading the town center. One can easily be tempted to use the gold needed for the classic upgrades elsewhere :D
I didn't see the replacement wheelbarrow upgrades so I only really saw the yoroshiro and the palace.
Trump is the perfect example for not bulding a wall lol, he built a few dozen miles and fixed up some fencing and just completely failed to build a wall at all

these drawn imperial fights are so boring to sit through .. the sacred site timer was the only exciting thing in this climax lacking game. And I mean AOE4 as a whole not just this game.
No clear climax to hope for .. maybe the sacred sites timer should not reset when you lose one site or something .. you're just watching unit printing run into each other for a very long time which is really a shame because when the game finally is over, all you think of is "thank god its over"

With better economy he could have attack with some ramps and a few units in the north - some civs have better maxed out blobs of units than others.
Talking about Balance 😂 english are the Most OP Civ in Game. It can bei rushed really early with longbowman. It has the strongest keeps, the strongest Knights, the strongest bowman, and passive Gold income on fields...
