@@IndieTimberStudio The Ric "bridge" is actually at the 36th fret location, which would be even more perfect if the bass, itself, had 24 frets, as that'd be perfectly in the "middle" of the last fret and the bridge. The magic of any middle pickup is that as you fret the strings, diminishing their vibrational potential, the center of the fretted length of string gets closer to the pickup, allowing the pickup to catch a stronger fundamental frequency from the string. This way, it compensates for the loss of string energy to deliver the loudest, cleanest signal to the rest of your signal chain.
I agree, this sounds so good. I personally would love to see more slap on the 4003. It’s just so funky and clean sounding. I don’t know how many times I have watched that video. Great job
Such an awesome pick tone. I've been eyeing the Harley Benton Ric-esque bass to get in the ballpark of this tone. Granted, that bass is not a Ric and that's ok: I just want a bass with a similar neck pickup. These tone remind me of a ebO bass, but with more clarity and growl. I have Ibanez ATK200. While I LOVE the body buid, finish, and the neck profile, I dont dig the MM humbucker thing. I'm really tempted to mod the ATK with a 4003 neck pickup. It would become a single pickup bass with just volume and tone knobs for the neck pickup.
