    The organisation founded in 1948 was the OEEC not the OECD. The OEEC split in the 1950s into the EEC and EFTA because they could not agree on whether to pursue political union or merely a free trade area. The split left the OEEC without any reason to be, so it was revamped into a new organisation, the OECD. But the OECD was not founded in 1948. The OEEC was an entirely different thing.
