    Dear Alan is a tribute to Alan Braxe. They sampled the intro to Jets “Crush on You”, same sample as Braxe’s biggest song “Intro.” Classic record with Fred Falke.

      Not really hearing the Jet's sample. But it mainly sampled "Dear Brian" from Chris Rainbow wich Alan Braxe sampled on "In Love With You" in his "The Paradise" band with singer Romuald (Wich is the song that inspired "Love S.O.S." on Woman, from the groove to hiring Romuald as a singer again)

    I love how much of a pivot the record takes from Moonlight Rendez-vous onwards. It offers a change of pace from the rest of Justice's catalogue, taking things in a more progressive electronica route. The build from Muscle Memory into the Harpy Dream interlude adds a lot of tension. I wasn't crazy about Saturnine as a single but putting it after the Prog stretch from MRV through Harpy Dream really gives it a gravity that I felt was missing previously.

    • @Aquiles.Brinco
      @Aquiles.Brinco 4 месяца назад +8

      Saturnine works better in the context of the whole album, and I mean from the space electro opera of Muscle Memory to the glued transition between Harpy dream to Saturnine giving it a moment to return to "earth" kind of way with the more focused Miguel vocals on the mix rather than a instrumental power, and then to The End, wich ties to the end of the album perfectly.

    As much as people would like another album like Cross, Justice just… doesn’t seem to roll like that. They seem very much happy to try a different sound in each album. Each album sounds very unique, while also retaining some elements that make their sound special. I think it would be hard to make an album that lives up to, or exceeds what they made in cross. That album is basically lightning in a bottle, and Justice seems to know that. I also saw a recent interview just right before Hyperdrama that said that they always start each album with a clean slate, like they’re learning to make music again. Take that how you want, but yeah.

I was essentially hearing them for the first time and...wow. At some point during the incredible energy of "Chorus Hyperdrive", watching Xavier delightfully feeding off the crowd's reactions, I became Justice's newest fan for life. I couldn't get on Ticketmaster fast enough to buy tickets to their Boston show. I've been going to concerts for over 50 years and it's rare for me to react like that when seeing an act for the first time. There's a concept in Hyperdrama that I really liked, it's the fact that they're mixing somber and heavy sounds with ethereal disco cuts. A lot of tracks feature synths, stabs and drums straight out of 90s hardcore techno (hell, they even sampled some of it on Generator and One Night All Night) but they twist these sounds to create dance songs with them, and it works beautifully.
    It's a much more interesting approach than just replicating the sound of 70s prog rock (AVD), 70s disco (Woman), or 70s movie soundtracks (Escapades) but I wished they pushed the concept a bit further to fully explore what they could do with this sound.

    Audio, video, disco was groundbreaking to me. tracks that were actually songs that were absolutely memorable and catchy. underrated for sure. Women was also groundbreaking for me and set the stage for other bands to copy and explore the nostalgia of the 70s and 80s. Justice proved themselves to be brilliant and ahead of the curve. I personally will continue to listen and explore everything they put out. they are geniuses in my book and sometimes it takes time to get on their level.

      As a French electro fan (Justice, SebastiAn, Gesaffelstein, Mr. Oizo...) he has ALWAYS been a bully with them, his reviews are basically him telling them EVERY TIME:
      "oh I see what you did there, artistic exploration and cohesive vision instead of the compressed and compact electro I like? Here's a bad score, you know what you did and you're not fooling anyone with these copies of other music. Gimme weird electro. GIMME."
      Like, holy moly, I want each of these artists to go back to their roots too but it has always felt so narcissistic of him to use his platform to directly reduce and berate their work in such a way. Here for example, he absolutely dismissed the second leg of the album which takes the biggest twist in Justice's entire discography but instead had very good notes on Incognito, the most conceptual and abrasive Cross-esque track. I believe he's just rude and entitled, as if any French guy is going to hear his review and go "Oh yeah, of course, our attempts at art are cringe and we need to relearn to be teenagers again to make any other good song again"

    Not sure how I feel about this take, me and my friends absolutely love the atmospheric style of Afterimage, One Night/All Night and Mannequin Love. It's a highly varied LP, and the more subdued and complex tracks serve to deepen the experience of the album as a whole. But it's a dance record! Many see Justice as spiritual successors to Daft Punk, who tonally, certainly had buzz and intensity, but could hardly be called dark and heavy. One of the most famous tracks of Cross was D.A.N.C.E, which is as bright as it gets - but it's a great song. The other most popular track on the album was Genesis, which is the polar opposite in tone. I think that speaks volumes to Justice's ability to imbue a broad range of dance music styles with a highly distinct identity - one they've built upon meticulous microsample-based production, and genuine visionary musicianship. I don't think this album is quite at the level of Cross, but it's by far their best work in years. 8.5/10

    After experiencing Justice’s live performance at 2024 Coachella front row-ish and letting Hyperdrama marinate after a many listen through, I think bro’s review is valid, albeit believe he undermines the the fact Justice are truly organic musicians, without the air of pretension of being institutionalized music majors [both Gaspard and Xavier graduated with graphic design degrees], and understand what they want from an instinctual approach and continue to humble audiences with their badass, rock star mentality.
    Moreover, every lyrical track on Hyperdrama slaps, cannot say the same thing about a majority of other electronic acts - most vocals incorporated in a majority of electronic artists are super corny and massively derivative or uninspiring. Justice understands how to organically produce innately cool yet banger tracks with incredible mixing, usage of Baroque counterpoint without alienating their audience and thoroughly understand how to incorporate the deep contrasts of their love for disco and hard rock through the lens of French electro opera like no other artist.

    Woman Worldwide is one of my favourite albums, it still goes hard AF. So much fun to listen to.

    Comparison is the thief of joy, if you compare any justice album to another your doing yourself a disservice. AVD especially is filled with such solid and creative tunes it always baffles me when people don't like it.

    This is definitely one of those albums that grows on you after a couple listens, but once it does, it just never leaves your mind. Loved it ❤
