After 30 years not playing at all, I had oportunity to play CD-140SCE Mahogany in one music shop. I love it so juch that I bought it on the spot. Such a beautiful warm sound and I just have to play it each day.
I’m not from the US, but worked in Seattle for a couple of months. I’ve always been a guitar player and wanted an acoustic one. So one day I went to Guitar Center, and I remember my friend told me “You have one hour, then we’re gone”. I got inside the acoustic room and tried almost every guitar there 😂. I even played +$15.000 ones (I was on a $500 budget tho). The time was over and I liked an Epiphone that was nice, but not in love. I swear I said “Let try one more”, and I randomly chose a black Fender. I played just a single open E chord and it was an ecstasy on my brain. Absolute goosebumps. I found it. And I’m still in love ❤
Well the 60 sounds like a big top. Softer and more warmth. The 140 louder with more presence. The 60 may not have that instant gratification but the tone is over all richer to me. I'm a huge fan of hog tops
Hands down the CD140SCE is my choice. I have this model in Mahogany. Why did I buy this model? I dig the warm, rich sound plus a good balanced bass which sounds beautiful through a amp. I liked the fact that the nut and saddle are not plastic but nu-bone. The fret-board and action is really excellent. No sharp frets, and the big plus on this model is it sounds really good, with that beautiful mahogany wood which in time as it ages will just keep on improving your sound. I am a intermediate player and sound and fret-board comfort is very important to me. Another plus is the Fender Fishman which is quality. I liked the scalloped bracing for strength of the guitar. The up-graded components on this model is very good. If you are serious about playing the guitar then get this model because the playability is really comfortable. Really excellent value for money. Thank You for a great cover on these 2 Fender acoustic guitars. 😀👍
I was literally on the checkout screen about to spend 1500 on a Gibson 00, then I heard the sound from the Mahogany Fender, looked at the price, and it is only 169 in my music shop! Changed my order and got a GS Mini koa, Fender all mahogany and a Epiphone Les Paul Alpine white, all for the same price as I was about to pay for my Gibson. Thank you for this demo!!!
The mahogany brings out more chime tho. Spruce is more harsh tonally and that shows in this comparison. While yes the Tusk nut and saddle have more resonance and sustain those can easily be added to the 60
I purchased a cheap Kona acoustic guitar because I wasn’t sure how it would work out learning to play. I’ve been sticking with it since October and now I really think I want the 140 for now. My dream guitar is the Fender Acoustasonic Stratocaster. So many sounds but not worth it if I don’t learn how to play first!
I bought a CD-60S (mahogany) a bit over a year ago. The Alamo videos were quite helpful in comparing alternatives, so thank you for that. (I especially liked the consistency in the demos. Chris is probably tired of those same three songs, but if you're trying to listen for subtle differences, keeping as much the same as possible is important.) Even after more recently picking up a Taylor (414CE, cedar top - the 2019 Summar NAMM LTD), I still like the sound of the Fender, and break it out occasionally, even if that does make the Taylor jealous. Is the Fender as good as the Taylor? No. But then, look at the price difference. The Fender is a terrific value. I'd agree with the comments on the plastic nut and saddle. I swapped mine out for bone (pre-cut parts were like $8), and the difference was quite noticeable even to my novice ears. A lot more volume as well as some improvement in the tone. Two things I noticed while doing the work: first, the plastic (of unspecified type) actually feels a little soft. It's not foam rubber, but if you squeeze it between finger and thumb, it's got a tiny give that bone or TUSQ just doesn't have. That's probably the volume difference; you don't really want a flexible material absorbing string energy. The other thing was the saddle had some grooves worn under the each string - this with less than 200 hours of play. I don't know why Fender picked that material, but I'd certainly recommend just replacing it out of the gate. (I didn't find that hard to do, actually, though breaking the nut off is a little scary when you're not used ot it.) I lowered the action a bit while I was at it, to match the specs on the Taylor. Everybody has their own preference in that regard -- but I expect acoustics tend to ship a bit high from the factory, simply because it's a one-way trip through the saddle when you start sanding it. You can lower a high action, but you can't raise a low one (without replacing the saddle), so the factories probably aim to be on the higher end of the scale. The only other traditional symptom of a cheap guitar that I noticed was rough fret ends, especially over the top. Just clipped them and shipped 'em, I guess. Not sharp enough to cut, and indeed not something I ever noticed while playing, but it did snag my cleaning cloth, and once I noticed, it was one of those annoyances you can't shake. So, a few more videos on fret dressing and $80 of StewMac tools, and I got another lesson in guitar tech work. But then, that too is a useful thing to learn about guitars, even if I don't plan on becoming a luthier. I don't regret the purchase at all. Certainly a good way to get started, but it's also had some lasting value to me.
@@misaelmartinezrojas5569 The guitar shipped with standard Fender factory action, 6/64ths bass, 5/64th treble. Roughly 2.5 / 2 mm. I think most makers ship acoustics a bit on the high side, because lowering the action means sanding down the bottom of the saddle, and that's a one-way trip through the part. It's much harder to raise the action than it is to lower it to your own preferences. So that makes sense to me as a manufacturing policy. As a learning experience, I replaced the nut and saddle with bone -- the factory saddle is quite soft, as saddles go -- and lowered the action another 1/64th while I was at it. I found it playable as a beginner, though I didn't have a lot of experience to which to compare it. But I did prefer it that little bit lower.
I put a bone nut and saddle on my Fender cheapie acoustic. They noticeably changed the tone for the better, and while I was at it, I got the action where I like it. Own a black Fender Gemini from 1987. Original owner. Built like a tank. It's a beast. Never goes out of tune. Relatively poor playability when faced up against modern guitars. It has hollow sound. Plastic nut / saddle / bridge plate. Also, it has a three piece top - I can actually see the joints with a close up look. You know it's laminate. Built in Korea from unknown lumber. It is the kind of guitar that would turn off the new player. It certainly did for me when I put it into storage back in the day (lol). It's in great shape and now considered vintage....no reason to part with it. There's definitely a sentimental attachment to it. I use it now as my Dobro fantasy guitar in Open G. :) Actually demo'd it recently.
So many people scoff at fender acoustics but those two options are great for entry level guitars! .. I'd be interested to see a comparison between fender, yamaha, Taylor and Martin for entry level options.
Thank your for the video. Very informative. I bought a used CD 140 SCE about 3 years ago just because I liked the feel of the neck, plus the sound is good, especially for the price.

@@itsduck8415 yes it can be loud, but I would define it more as 'presence'. The volume is controllable, you can play it quiet or loud. But very often if you are singing at an 'open mic' or in a pub you might have a mic for vocals anyway. Going back to presence, it has a 'cut' so if you are playing in a band, you will still hear it, not so much due to volume but by the clear definition of its sound.
I'm aware of Fender acoustics but because Fender is so known for their electric guitars their acoustics fly under the radar. When I see a musician playing a Fender acoustic it's always catches my attention. I picked up a spruce and Mahogany model PMTE and that was one of the best packaged acoustic bundles I ever played in the price range and don't understand why they discontinued them after only a short time. Is knit picky but I don't like their standard acoustic pickguards or traditional electric headstocks on acoustics and I've noticed Fender seems to be transitioning away from this which may help sales. I think these 2 models in this video compare really close to Yamaha equivalent model.
Thanks a lot for this. I think you missed also that the top of the CD140 is solid whilst the Top side for the 60 is laminated, wich i have understood affects the resonance if im not mistaken. Being preferably solid in that case.
I live in San Antonio and always thought you guys were just a piano store until a year or two ago. Been meaning to stop in but I'm always busy when I drive by. I'm stoked for this video though because I just got a used cd140 and it sounds great. $90!
I bought the GC 140 SCE which is concert size and a bit easier for me to manage. There are so many who buy a guitar like this, take a few lessons, and sell it like new for less than half price. Quality is top notch, sounds great, stays in tune, with a lot of extras, what more could you want.
My first guitar was a $20 good will find. A brandless nylon 6 string that couldn't stay tuned for more than 10 minutes but, man was she pretty! A shiny sunburst red guitar that gave me hours of fun. People worry too much about price. I recently bought a $75 beginner guitar from Amazon and i was pleasantly surprised by how bad IT WASN'T... you hear all the horror stories but really its just word of mouth.. i just purchased the Fender CD 60 SCE mahogany with plans to "move up" to a Taylor but when i took that Fender out of its high quality hard case, i was mesmerized by its stunning beauty! I tuned it up, strummed her in G and i was blown away! Its solidly built, sounds beautiful and looks like it costs a lot more than it does; which begs the question: is it necessary to buy a $3000 Taylor so you dont have a "beginner guitar" and feel like you have moved up?? Taylors sound great. So do Gibsons, Martins, Yamahas, Ovations, and, of course, Fenders... you'll be hard pressed to find a good reason to pay $5000 for a guitar when it simply ISN'T $5000 BETTER. ..
I had an ebay special to start learning as i didn't know if i could pick up playing. I just recently got the CD60s mahogany and a tanglewood tw5 koa. I literally picked up everything in the store. I was set on the tw5 and picked up the cd60s out of intrest. 1 strum and i was hooked, value for money and sound was incredible. It is my go to guitar now. My tw5 only comes out when i need the pick up. The Fender has improved my learning and my drive to learn. Highly recommend the. Side note, i did play the cd60sce and it did sound different to the cd60s quite a lot. Hence getting the tw5.
I'm brand new to guitar I always want to learn to play an instrument namely the guitar at 44 I said it's now or never. after reading and watching reviews on line on beginner guitars. I was looking at a Martin but could not just the cost of a martin at my skill level. I choose the fender cd-140sce per reviews I have not regretted it. I practice 15 to 20min a day and a half hour lesson a week.
I own the CD60SCE mahogany model and am very happy with it. I bought it for jamming with friends, to save transporting amps and pedals etc. I am very happy with it - it is easy to play with pick, fingers or slide. It looks and sounds really nice and the tuner works well. It stays in tune too.
@@superbsuyash1466 Yes, solid mahogany top. Quite the deal for under $400. Definitely worth getting used too for even cheaper! The laminate sides means less worry about changes in the body due to temperature.
Own a Fender CD 140 SCE. Awesome sounding guitar. Had compared it with CD 60 SCE in store. 140 had a better and more fuller sound. Compared both Mahogany versions
Hi I purchased my 140 mahogany with a case over 3 years ago as a beginner, so pleased with my choice play it lots and it's built like a tank still good as new, if not better than new now that it's bedding in.
Great video. At 3:45 you say the CD-140SCE is available as a 12-string and the CD-60SCE is not. That’s not actually the case, both models have a 12-string version. It would be great if you reviewed both of them against each-other too!
I`ve just bought a black cd-60sce after seeing the reviews and hopefully it will be here tomorrow, I want to be able to play it like that big guy up there in the sky and my grand-kids have been informed that from now on they have to call me papa Cash 🤞
Love it but I can only compare it to the cheap Martin Smith W100 I first started playing on, the quality and sound is far superior and with the additional distance between the fretboard compared to the Martin Smith certainly helps with the learning(plus the fact I am learning new techniques), I had my father in law have a look at it and he was certainly impressed with it although he did this mad shit on the first string around the 9th fret, pinged it as hard as he could and said it needed set up properly(sounds fine to me so what does he know, he`s only been in a band for like 60 years ;)_) I would recommend it for what I know
@@jasonm7095 I really really like this guitar, I'm glad I bought it and yes I would recommend it for a beginner(like myself), go for it, you won't be disappointed, also follow Justin guitar, He's the best free teacher on the net.
It should have come with an allen key to adjust the truss rod. The truss rod nut is at the butt of the neck inside the soundhole. Internet search truss rod adjustment to better understand how to add or remove relief in the neck.
Very glad to see 12 radius's on the necks. Hard case es bueno. Plastic nut es malo. The "more expensive one" seems nice enough to me. A guy could easily get 100's of hours (or more) of enjoyment from one. Beats a movie ticket anytime.
How does the CD-140SCE compare to the FA-345SCE from a playability standpoint? I've had the same Yamaha Costco special since 1996. Looking to upgrade to something that is easier to play (closer to my electrics) that doesn't break the bank.
I am thinking of buying an acoustic guitar and I am between Fender cd-60sce or Fender Redondo player.....can you help me to take a decision?? Thanks!!!
The 140 has more chime than the 60, the 60 is more brassy. I would like to hear the 140 12 string. I had a 54 Hofner made in Germany how different would the 140 be? My nephew destroyed it. I want to find another 12 string like it but I can’t find any specs on the 12 string dreadnought Hofner?
I own the 140 SCE burst finish with Solid Spruce top and Ovangkol b&s. Very nice playing and sounding axe. Also aesthetically beautiful. 👍👍🔥🔥🔥🔥🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶😎😎😎😎
muy bueno su video, quisiera saber que diferencia hay entre la Cd 60 de tapa de abeto y la de caoba y si es significativa. aparte de cambiar la estetica. muchas gracias !!
I played mahogany CD60sce two month ago, the build quality is really good, i think the build quality is the best in the price segment. However, ... maybe it just me that i don't like the sound. The sound was was warm and pretty accurate but tiny. I have never experienced cd140sce yet. Surely the cd140sce will be louder and better but I doubt now. I'm thinking of getting Gretsch g5024e (same price) or the Epiphone ej200sce( a bit costlier). Will be really appreciate, if u please share your thoughts on the choice i have , dear intermediate guitarist.
The all mahogany model has a solid mahogany top and mahogany laminates on the back and sides. The other version has mahogany back and sides with a solid spruce top.
I was just wandering can I just use the guitar without an amp or mic cuz I don't have either and I don't really want to spend £50+ for a decent amp. Or do u think it is necessary to buy an amp??
What string gauge is best paired with the CD-140SCE? I bought a 140 just today but I found that the gauge 11 string it came with caused some slight buzzing when doing some bar chords. Was wondering if a gauge 12 will be better or even a 13?
I was just looking at both of these and was wondering what the differences were for the price difference. Seems like it is basically just the bridge and nut.. and the case. as for sound, I really didn't hear much difference. But... I think I will Splurge this time and go for the CD140SCE.
@@parthruparel5135 Yes , my grandson has the CD60SCE And we were playing together and everyone noticed the difference in the sound. The 140 is a little louder and has a lot more clarity with the notes. I think the upgrade was well worth the money. My Grand son wanted to trade with me, so I told him I would buy him one.
HI I HAVE A FENDER CD 60 ? AND ITS DEAD HAS NO VOLUME ITS BEEN SET UP BY A PRO TRIED DIFFERENT G STRINGS STILL NOT HAPPY THINKING OF GETTING RID OF IT IT LOOKS GREAT ???
I have a Fender Tim Armstrong Hellcat acoustic-electric and I LOVE that guitar!! For $399 hard to beat in terms of sound, feel, and it's a beautiful instrument with a solid Mahogany top, layered backs and sides, scalloped bracing, a Fishman Paramount active pick-up... amazing!! Do you carry them and if so consider doing a video on it? I also have a Yamaha FSX800C which I purchased recently, a great guitar for the price, but sonically the Hellcat does sound much better both acoustically and plugged in. It sounds like a guitar that is way more than $100 more than the Yamaha. Still the Yamaha is a fun guitar to play and I'm enjoying it a lot!!
I have a cc60 s and the label says "designed in the USA // Crafted in Indonesia". I have searched a little and it seems there is Cort who actually made then. So if you hear anyone saying that Cort acoustics are good for the price but the Fenders are crap you will have something to think about.

I can’t hear much difference between the 2, so I’ll pick the 60. Maybe replace the Gig bag with a solid case. Thanks for this good presentation.
Thanks a lot for this.
I think you missed also that the top of the CD140 is solid whilst the Top side for the 60 is laminated, wich i have understood affects the resonance if im not mistaken. Being preferably solid in that case.
I believe the cd 60sce also has a solid top, if I'm not mistaken, the difference in tone is probably because of the mahogany.
Both are very good guitars but in my opinion Fender Cd140 Sce sounds more vibrating and warm plus it also adds to a good base
I own the CD60SCE mahogany model and am very happy with it. I bought it for jamming with friends, to save transporting amps and pedals etc. I am very happy with it - it is easy to play with pick, fingers or slide. It looks and sounds really nice and the tuner works well. It stays in tune too.
Does it have solid top?
@@superbsuyash1466 Yes, solid mahogany top. Quite the deal for under $400. Definitely worth getting used too for even cheaper! The laminate sides means less worry about changes in the body due to temperature.
@@blushingfrieza i ordered a week ago. It's amazing guitar
both beautiful. great video thanks
That intro tripped me out so much
Own a Fender CD 140 SCE. Awesome sounding guitar. Had compared it with CD 60 SCE in store. 140 had a better and more fuller sound. Compared both Mahogany versions
So you would definitely recommend 140 as there is clearly difference in sound? I'm interested about all mahagony.
@@Balkac Yes. For sure
I guess only difference between 60 & 140 is the additional box given with 140
@@sunnysingh-ik8ef Nopes. 140 SCE has a bone nut and bone saddle which helps in improving the overall tone of the guitar
So? how is it?
Love it but I can only compare it to the cheap Martin Smith W100 I first started playing on, the quality and sound is far superior and with the additional distance between the fretboard compared to the Martin Smith certainly helps with the learning(plus the fact I am learning new techniques), I had my father in law have a look at it and he was certainly impressed with it although he did this mad shit on the first string around the 9th fret, pinged it as hard as he could and said it needed set up properly(sounds fine to me so what does he know, he`s only been in a band for like 60 years ;)_)
I would recommend it for what I know
Hey there how is the guitar going and do you recommend for beginners because I’ve been wanting to get it :)
@@jasonm7095 I really really like this guitar, I'm glad I bought it and yes I would recommend it for a beginner(like myself), go for it, you won't be disappointed, also follow Justin guitar, He's the best free teacher on the net.
Shoutout to the missing high E string on cooper’s guitar
What piece are these!!! Beautiful to hear
My uncle gave me a CD140SCE and im not sure how to adjust the truss rod
It should have come with an allen key to adjust the truss rod. The truss rod nut is at the butt of the neck inside the soundhole. Internet search truss rod adjustment to better understand how to add or remove relief in the neck.
Nice choice on the Hayes Carll shirt, Cooper
One of my all time favs! Thank you!
With that intro....hope Alamo doesn't lose him to Hollywood.
Very glad to see 12 radius's on the necks. Hard case es bueno. Plastic nut es malo. The "more expensive one" seems nice enough to me. A guy could easily get 100's of hours (or more) of enjoyment from one. Beats a movie ticket anytime.
That look at 9:55😭😂😂
The 140 is superb....what strings do you guys recommend on it ? Ive just put some Daddario Nickels on mine and it sings
elixir
I have a spruce top CD140 and like it better than my Taylor 410 ce and my Alvarez
Fender says on its website the 140 has "upgraded Fishman® Presys electronics" but doesn't say what the actual difference is. Anyone know?
I have the same doubt
How does the CD-140SCE compare to the FA-345SCE from a playability standpoint? I've had the same Yamaha Costco special since 1996. Looking to upgrade to something that is easier to play (closer to my electrics) that doesn't break the bank.
El modelo CC-60S está abajo de las CD o a la par?
Fender cd 100ce has a fishman isys III pickup while cd 60sce has a normal fishman pickup. Does that make cd100ce better?
I am thinking of buying an acoustic guitar and I am between Fender cd-60sce or Fender Redondo player.....can you help me to take a decision?? Thanks!!!
I have the cd60sce sounds amazing
@@ta.entmoney3405 Thank's so much....i think that i want to buy the CD-60SCE...;)
Is the solid top a big deal? I'm looking at a CD-60CE on markerplace and there are not a lot of reviews out.
I’m confused which one to buy could you suggest me one among 60sce and 140sce, I’m only into playing chords for supporting vocals
Are both the body size same.?
I own the 140 SCE burst finish with Solid Spruce top and Ovangkol b&s. Very nice playing and sounding axe. Also aesthetically beautiful. 👍👍🔥🔥🔥🔥🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶😎😎😎😎
you guys are so cool xD love from Mexico!
How do you compare 140 with fender redondo player? Thank you!

nice guitars...what string and gauge being used in FENDER CD140 SCE?
CD-60SCE is on sale at 20% off. Take another 10% for fender play members. @ 237 is this guitar worth it?
muy bueno su video, quisiera saber que diferencia hay entre la Cd 60 de tapa de abeto y la de caoba y si es significativa. aparte de cambiar la estetica. muchas gracias !!
La taba de caoba da un sonido más dulce
I played mahogany CD60sce two month ago, the build quality is really good, i think the build quality is the best in the price segment. However, ... maybe it just me that i don't like the sound. The sound was was warm and pretty accurate but tiny. I have never experienced cd140sce yet. Surely the cd140sce will be louder and better but I doubt now. I'm thinking of getting Gretsch g5024e (same price) or the Epiphone ej200sce( a bit costlier). Will be really appreciate, if u please share your thoughts on the choice i have , dear intermediate guitarist.
The tonality of the guitar really changes the sound?
For me 60SCE sounds robust... it's because is Mahogany?
Hola.
Me podrías aconsejar.
Cuál me recomendarías La fender cd140 ó Yamaha FSX315C, gracias por tu respuesta.
What the difference between Fender CD-60SCE and fender CD-60SCE ( all mahogany)??
One of them has less mahogany?
The all mahogany model has a solid mahogany top and mahogany laminates on the back and sides. The other version has mahogany back and sides with a solid spruce top.
Wothout a doubt CD140sce is the best one...
How accurate are the onboard tuners for these guitars?
Hey I’m debating between the cd 140 and the Ibanez aewc32fn which should I get?
I was just wandering can I just use the guitar without an amp or mic cuz I don't have either and I don't really want to spend £50+ for a decent amp. Or do u think it is necessary to buy an amp??
What is the recommended brand of strings for this Fender CC-60SCE and CD140SCE ?
Is the 140 with or without a cut away or do I have a choice?
Alguien tuvo problemas con la altura de las cuerdas en esta guitarra? Como lo corrigieron?
Tenho um fender DG14SCE preciso saber qual e a madeira da lateral e fundo se poder me ajudar agradeço
Like the sound of the CD60SCE best.
Can you connect it to an amp?
What string gauge is best paired with the CD-140SCE?
I bought a 140 just today but I found that the gauge 11 string it came with caused some slight buzzing when doing some bar chords. Was wondering if a gauge 12 will be better or even a 13?
I play with 9s on my acoustic and let the pickup and amp deal with the volume.
Great Video.....Could you tell me how is the low end of the CD140sce?
Did you get the answer? Is it great...
I was just looking at both of these and was wondering what the differences were for the price difference. Seems like it is basically just the bridge and nut.. and the case. as for sound, I really didn't hear much difference. But... I think I will Splurge this time and go for the CD140SCE.
Bought the CD 140SCE and just love it. Plays nice and sounds great.
@@roberthealy1814 did you try them both?
I don't care about the case.
Is the upgrade worth the money? Thanks
9:52 The way they both look at the camera
HI I HAVE A FENDER CD 60 ? AND ITS DEAD HAS NO VOLUME ITS BEEN SET UP BY A PRO TRIED DIFFERENT G STRINGS STILL NOT HAPPY THINKING OF GETTING RID OF IT IT LOOKS GREAT ???
Some one knows when the V2 starts tô manufactori?
if I could afford it, I would buy the Fender CD60-SCE! but I'm going in the faith to get one for myself
Go get a used guitar less money & better quality.
@@nancyharrison3371 more than having one of these in the video knows it's a dream! But we have to walk like we can!

_Take care of your nut... looob_

I need to know the second song played pleaseeee
Fender CC-60SCE?
I don't understand the difference between the two guitars in the video when playability.
Where are these made? Any made in the USA?
I have a cc60 s and the label says "designed in the USA // Crafted in Indonesia". I have searched a little and it seems there is Cort who actually made then.
So if you hear anyone saying that Cort acoustics are good for the price but the Fenders are crap you will have something to think about.

I’ll start off by saying I really like your feeds, when it comes to electric guitars I’m a huge Fender fan, acoustically not so much. Never understood why they don’t make higher end acoustics.
I’d love to see you guys do a comparison on 12 string guitars around the 1,000 dollar range, if you have recently please drop a link., I value your opinions 🤙
Hello. My name i Lars Nilsson. Living in a town called Kiruna in the north of Sweden. Can you please give me a video when you testing the Fender Cd 140 sce in mahogny. Not spuce. MAhognny. Please give me a feedback on that. . Thank you.
Which is better?
140sce is a great guitar for that much money, the only drawback - very thin neck, if it only were 45mm...
I want one now time to get a cut out and longer scale them 23”
What is beyond me is that fender paints their acoustic guitars which basically kills all harmonics. So happy to see that they have stopped doing that:)
pretty big difference in tone between the two!
if you had taken cd60sce without mahagony, it would have been honester comparison.
