Kawasaki Z900RS: Custom LED Turn Signals & Evotech Tail Tidy Install
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 2 окт 2024
- In this video, I install a set of TST Industries LED Echo Pod Turn Sign and an Evotech-Performance Tail Tidy onto my Kawasaki Z900RS. Watch how I customize the stock indicator bases to fit the small but very bright LED indicators onto the the Evotech tail tidy. No soldering, no resistors, no skilled metalwork necessary; anyone can do this. You can do this. This video is NOT sponsored by Evotech Performance, TST Industries or Motostarz.

I really like the look of the brown seat on the bike. I prefer slightly larger turn signals to those, but bright is better no matter the size.
Thanks, Jack. I like the look of bikes without turn signals, hence the size. But I have seen some slightly larger ones by kellerman that I think would look very good. Cheers.
Tinkering I see. I agree that on the newer bikes, even the "retro" ones, the retro bug eye stalk turn signals just do not look good. But I think those screws at the back were JIS and not Phillips. I need to get myself a few JIS drivers but they are not something you find at the local.hardware store. Does the bike come with an OEM LED headlight?
Yes, the headlight/tail light are LED, as are the indicators in Europe; however, for some reason, North American versions get the incandescent turn signals... JIS/Phillips - I can' never tell the difference.
@@BlueMarbleRiderThe angles on the drivers are different. The Phillips will not properly seat in the screw's head and so stripping the head often happens on those screws torqued down on engine cases etc.
what is that rear tire please?
Michelin Road 5. The Road 6 is out now, and I have that on the Guzzi. Both are very good. If you seldom ride in the rain or in cooler temps, then the Michelin Power 6 is likely an even better tire. Cheers.
Thank you very much for the tutorial
I needed to try to fix the right rear turn light that vibrates a bit but I couldn't do it even though I completely removed the license plate holder.
I have a SE, from Italy
Thank you! 👍🏼
You're welcome! I'll be in Malcesine mid September. Looking forward to it. Ciao.
Quedaron realmente bien. Los intermitentes originales sin duda son muy grandes. no me gutan Gran trabajo.
Gracias: Creo que funcionan bien y disfrutan de un aspecto más integrado que las señales estándar. Salud.
Looked at your video when I was looking to fit a broken back signal. Problem is previous owner had tried and stripped the allen head. Any ideas on how to remove it? I tried the usual stuff of using a torx bit. No joy
Only thing I can suggest is drilling it out, using a slightly smaller bit unfortunately. Heat might be too destructive. Good luck.
@@BlueMarbleRider Yay! Used a Spiral Screw Extractor and was able to remove the screw. Thanks for replying!
Well done BMR. Personally, I like the look of slightly larger signals and I am looking to change mine out over the winter. I also needed to carve up my stock rear signals to allow room for Shad saddlebags.
Can you give us a link to those horns you're using?
Thanks.
Bit of food-for thought for you. I installed a Givi rack to hold a Shad topbox; in conjunction with a Mustard Bikes tidy tail(which required slightly longer bolts to allow for the Givi rack). I find the 'look' heaps better with / without the Shad topbox in place.
Not that I have yet but you can then also fit the Shad pannier racks (presumably) without any issues; including the indicators which are tucked up behind the number plate on the Mustard t/t. (I only went with the Shad topbox as the silver / black colour looked better on my 'Candy-Blue' 22 Z than the Givi red / black.)
(Pls NB: I have no affiliation with Mustard Bikes, Givi or Shad. It is just a combination that worked for me. BMR's mod looks sleek; just the indicator position may interfere with your luggage; is all.)
@@jaspersoda8286 Cool ! I have the Shad saddlebag racks mounted with a Kappa (Givi) top rack. The tail is still original but I shortened the stalks of the standard signals. I will definitely look into the Mustard Bikes tail tidy when the time comes. Thanks.
Thanks! Yes they are HELLA 011225802 Black 77mm 12V BX Disc Horn Kit (Universal Fit). You can find them on Amazon.ca ($37) (www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B01C8F0AUY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1). You will need a relay, to save your horn button pitting because of the load: SoundOriginal Car Hron Relay 4 Pin 12v 40amp Spst Model No JD1912 12VDC 40A 14VDC Auto Switches & Starters, 2 Pack
The front ones should stick out further to be seen….
You are probably right, although they are shockingly bright!
Thanks for the tip on the TST relay, it works great on my z900rs with euro-spec LED indicators. I found it easier to fit with the battery removed.
Glad it helped.
Your bike looks totally amazing, the TST lights also look so good on that particular model.
Thanks!
As always, great vid, BMR. Love that you've gone to that level of detail. I must confess I installed the Mustard Bikes tail tidy with the original indicators. Advantage was that most of the 'bulky' indicator is hidden behind an Aust number plate (which is not as big as a UK one; for example) so only the lens show. But disadvantage - as you have quite rightly pointed out - is the non-LED indicators are far inferior; brightness-wise. (LED headlight but not indicators . . . come on Kawasaki!) Think one could still go with the bullets on a Mustard tail but you'd still have to cannibalise as you have done. Smart thinking!
I don't mind the OEM indicators on the front of my Z; but I also have 'industrial'-looking hand grip protectors in a matt black and SW-Tech crash bars so a bit of extra bulk on front is negligible. But I like the slim-line direction you have gone too. Looks like a pain in the butt changing out the front indicators though. 😉
Be interested in your thoughts on changing out the Lead-Acid battery for a smaller, lighter Lithium battery to create a bit extra storage . . . (future vid maybe . . . )
Thanks, Jaspersoda:
Funny you should mention the lithium battery. I just needlessly replaced the the Shorai lithium battery in my Husaberg (that battery has been doing sterling service since 2012! It has never missed a crank, despite not being charged or used for up to 6 months at a time). Unfortunately, I was desperate to get out, and when it didn't crank, I assumed it had finally let go (I mean...11 years!). Bought another. Stuck it in. No crank! Turns out I had forgotten that I had been playing with the switch gear a few months ago, and left the tiny kill switch pressed in...Daft! Anyway, the long and short of it is, I have a spare Li battery and am thinking of using it the Z. So I would whole-heartedly endorse them. I will change all my lead acids to Lithium when they die - the space and weight savings is amazing. Cheers
Hahaha. Funny the little mistakes we make! Thanks for the feedback. (Apologies for the delay). That's an impressive period of time without a changeover. Will definitely go in that direction then. Just need to suss out the amps I guess. Cheers BMR Love you work.
