    hi i'm trying to scrape some data from a website and I couldn't understand why I couldn't load the web query in excel, but I think it's being dynamically generated as you mentioned in the 3rd option but I have no coding skills and can't build or even copy and edit the web scrapper you did. Is there any hope for people like me? thank so much

    Hi, your video is one of the most informative on the subject of importing external data into excel for mac. However, following everything carefully I get a Unable to open [url]. Cannot locate the Internet server or proxy server (I'm trying to import from a REST API, the link works fine in browser and directly from word or excel). Any ideas why your method seems to error out? Excel for Mac is v16.43, 2019

    • @ActionBackers
      @ActionBackers  3 года назад +1

      Not sure, sorry. Never encountered. You might consider getting your API data via python and putting it into a data frame, which can then be saved/ imported as a CSV might solve the issue

      @@ActionBackers thanks so much! I actually found the issue after spending an entire day searching for answers, and I'll mention it here just in case anyone needs it. What Excel does is it sends empty Accept headers (in its Request Headers) when it performs a web query. That is to say "give me any content-type and I'll accept it". Now some servers allow empty Accept headers as valid, but others raise a 406 errors when they see Accept = ' '. So the solution would actually be making the backend accept empty Accept headers. Thanks once again

    Could I use this same method for NHL? Best place to get the data would just be the NHL site?

    • @ActionBackers
      @ActionBackers  3 года назад

      Definitely can use it. Natural stat trick is best for NHL stats, in my opinion

      If you’re writing code to get stats using Python then you need to re-run the Python code each day... the video shows how to get stats in using importHTML function in Google sheets or from web query in excel. Completely different situation than scraping web with Python
