This is excelent content, thank you. Fantastic resource for someone that is starting in sports handicaping like me. I will be definitely browsing around your channel for more!
Excellent video. I consider myself very good at importing ugly data and making it look pretty, but I actually learned a few things from you here, especially that filter function which I didn't realize existed.
I saw you mention using something such as Selenium or some other driver to 'scrape' the split leaders vs. handedness - about how hard is that to do? I'm not well versed in coding in those terms haha
Excellent post Man. I have 2 questions- how are you formulating you pitch factor and when I try to import html my team batters vs lefties (generated on fangraphs using splits, it does not import my table but just returns several team abbreviations...... Any idea what I am doing wrong?
I can’t tell you how I formulate my pitch factor, as that’s part of my “secret sauce”- in regards to your second question this is because for splits fangraphs dynamically generates those tables using JavaScript, which means they can’t be rendered using the importHTML function. Your options to get those stats are to either manually copy/paste or build a web scraper using Selenium or similar web driver that mimics human interaction.
Is this model completely made by you? It looks very nice and well set up. Do the pitchers automatically update each day or is it something you have to do manually?
Yes. Made by me and they update each day at 11am or so automatically
were can i find this model? lol :D
How do you work around a pitcher's middle name when importing probably pitchers and doing the split? I have spent 2 hours on this and can't make it work.
This right here, I think this is what the manual override is for but it would be nice to not have to do this every 5 days when Logan Allen makes a start
@ActionBackers please help with this.
I've used this to build a great model but cant seem to solve this problem on 2/5 days when we get Logan Taylor Allen or Simeon woods ritchardson.... really frustrating. I've tried adding wildcards and that doesn't seem to solve the problem because the extra name results in an extra column in like 3 different places..... please someone advise
Like I'm beyond frustrated. And can't seem to find a way with the coding to solve this
Hey Action Betters team! I am about to start a stream going start to finish in building a MLB Betting model with Python.
It would be awesome to see what y'all think of my process as well.
This Monday, and every Monday, at 7 PM EST. Would love to see you there.
Any reason why the pitchers for the day isn’t updating? It’s still pulling the probable pitchers from the previous day
Ever figure out this issue? If I delete the link and fix it, it will update. But that's quite annoying.
@clintonburkes9532 for me it auto updates but it isn't until like 12pm.
