  • Swapped in a variety of better quality parts attempting to get these Pile of Aftermarket parts saw builds to last in a real world environment. Its taken a LOT of trial and error, but closing in on success. THIS Video and the one just prior is about building a sold base to work from. The ONLY addition to these parts after a month or three was OEM trigger and choke lever's. Other than that this build has proven both reliable and adequate power wise for pro level work. AT the end of 2018 I will look at this and one other built just like this and do a summary of the experience.
    This saw is the #3 test saw in the video's posted December 2018 "bucking Logs" on the landing with Sawyer Logging. It was Built January 2017 and survived a year of logging use with no failures of any kind.

    Im having great luck with farmertec parts walt, i think they have come along way in the last 12months there has been alot of changes, built quite a few 660s now 10 or 11 just 660s a few 361s a couple 070s a 360 and two 250s, had no problems with engine components in my builds, had some oiler issues, a few dud av mounts but nothing of great importance, one firewood merchant i sold a 660 to has put over 600 tanks of mix through it and last service was still 175psi so im very happy, hes just picked up his second 660 that i built he loves them that much. i will say though i lost a wrist pin clip once and tried using a convetional internal circlip not realising the square edge of the circlip interfered with its seating postion, that circlip got eaten at about 13k rpm, blew the whole lip from between the transfer ports off, thats the only major trouble i have had and at my own fault completely. Have a great day walt love your videos man

    My new ms 460 kit was the best one I have seen from Farmertec. The only part that has failed, so far, is the tank vent. When I turned it on it’s flywheel side with the gad tank full it poured gas everywhere. I put in a Stihl tank vent and no more leaks.

    Put a muffler/(bark box) from ( westcostsaw ) on a 660 once.. it was the biggest power increase I did .. unbelievable how it woke up.. I added (max air ) and (p&p) as well I had the muffler you used.. the difference was mind blowing ... I just got don't P&p the 56cc head these saws are crazy good saws if a guy adds some candy/add-ons to the mix

    Great videos as always. I have built 8 if these clones and all of mine the hi idel position on the choke/ kill switch only works if you gently r e squeeze the trigger. I even put OEM parts in. Have you had this ever ?

    Good evening sir,I am a new subscriber and a lover of anything with an engine on it that makes lots of noise.That being said ,I enjoy rebuilding and modifying said engines,especially chainsaws.I find your videos most interesting and informative.I have a small collection of working saws that I use regularly,mainly Husqvarna 455,394 a small Echo for limbing and everything else you can think of lol,an old 306a polan,dont laugh,she cuts and sounds goooood,a medium small Johnsered and last but not least a D35 Clinton ,it was my grand dad's ,he bought it about 1962,it still runs,what a brutal thing,but cool.I'm retired sorta and live in Virginia USA.I have been watching your Farmertech builds and have decided to try the 372 copy I think it will be fun.I do have one question about gasket materal for two piece mufflers like the one on my 306a polan,I have not found any thing suitable,any ideas would be great.Sincerely Paul McMahan

    Great stuff. Still not sure I'll ever try to build one but I understand how saws work and putting them together much better after watching your videos.
    Have you ever done a video about a pop up piston? It looks like you just leave a circle in the top. I'd love to learn more about that.

    So...parts list. What parts would you replace with OEM?. I am fixing to get myself one of these saws in the near future. Would chain bar oil be a good assembly lube?.

    • @afleetcommand
      @afleetcommand  6 лет назад

      I just use two stroke oil for assembly oil. For parts to swap out, each one is a little different. But the "area's" that need a tweak from time to time are pretty consistent.
      Hyway handle bar is the best option as the handle bar is way soft. Just toss the one that comes.
      Hyway clutch, although for lighter use the Farmertec one works..just when they get run hard, they start breaking springs.
      Chain Brake linkage. Thats a 50/50 deal. Half of the ones I have worked fine. The other half let the chain brake handle rotate too far forward.
      Chain Brake spring. Again some are fine, others are the ones where the "loop" on the one end are off the side and will not work without bending them, and they they slip off from time to time.
      Chain Adjuster. Shimming the ones that come is a solution, but shimming the OEM's last.
      Bar studs and buts. Too soft. Hyway has the studs for less than OEM that work.
      I'm still working on the Pull Starts. Sometimes they work fine, sometimes I have to replace the guts with parts from other sources.
      Carbs. I've been able to "tweak" most of them to work but occasionally one is just stubborn. I've been getting used Walbro's for MS660's and rebuilding them. So far thats been the best solution.
      Air filters. It you are in a sandy or dusty environment, look to OEM for better options.
      Thats really the bulk of it and as I said on some of those parts, I've been able to make the ones delivered function from time to time....chain brake linkage, pull starts, carbs, springs. But things like the handle bars....just get rid of them.

    I burned up my 660 running too lean on my Alaska mill. I replaced the jug and piston with the big bore hyway popup kit. While apart I opened the muffler just a little to help it run cooler but now will only run on choke. Where should I start on the carburetor settings? I can't find the sweetspot.
    Your videos are great and help a ton more than others. I appreciate your attention to detail and input. Thanks

      And you may not find one, those 56mm cylinders had issues. I suspect u are working around another issue and the symptom is you not finding a tune and burning up the previous cylinder.. :(

    I never pullan intake boot through with a pair of needle nose pliers. I do it the Stihl way - I wrap a piece of string around the end of the boot and feed the ends through the hole in the rear wall. I use my needle nose pliers to grab the end of the string and pull them through the rear wall. I then use the string to pull the boot through and the string will come righ off once it is through the rear wall. Sometimes I spray the end of the boot with my pressing liquid - 1/3 Dawn, 2/3 water.

    Going to buy a Farmertec 660. Can't make up my mind if I want to build my own or just buy one already built. I have never built a chainsaw but I do have experience building larger engines etc. Think that's why I can't get the idea of building out of my head. Question is do you think the big bore kits are worth it for someone building a 660 or upgrading in the future?

      Maybe, there is a "hi capacity" oem version you can get from the dealers. Would try what it has first. There was a post somewhere about modifying the one that comes a while back. Not on my channel but on one of the forums like arboristsite.com. You would have to search for it...I can't remember where, Mine put out enough so it wasn't something relevant to me.

    Hyway bar adjuster is junk! I ordered there recoil and it was junk! I had to replace pawls and pulley second pull on the rope! From what I have seen so far Hyway parts are more garbage than the farmertech!

    • @afleetcommand
      @afleetcommand  6 лет назад

      The adjuster had a different diameter gear so couldn't use it....and if you watch the next McCulloch saws video where Bob and I did some work...the Hyway pull start exploded.
