I refuse to hit fifty and still live paycheck to paycheck! I started budgeting in April, saving in June, got a second job in September. I am building a sinking fund for a new car in 16 months, and will be out of debt by summer 2020. "Excellence over time". I have stopped listen to the culture of "spend" and am now listening to my "long planning" window: saving for college and retirement. Long term, long term, long term! I love Dave. Go for it, Xavier! YOU GOT THIS - dial in that long term thinking!

32 over here and have never lived paycheck to paycheck and always managing to save somewhere between 5% to 20% of my monthly income (45% to 60% when I still lived with my parents). And most months I manage to save 20% of the income.
Divide your paycheck in to percentage, use the 6 jar system, high yield saving account, investing, compound interest and don't buy things you can't afford live below your mean.

My thoughts exactly regarding Dave Ramsey! I found myself broke in my early 50s (gulp), but I'm determined to be wealthy and secure when I retire in 20 years. Better late than never, my man.
The worst part about listening to Dave is he gets you really excited to start micromanaging your finances. And then you realize you don't get paid for another 2 weeks so there's nothing for you to do in the meantime but listen to him rant more.
dash4800 that’s what I’m saying! I get so hyped to pay off all my debt then I realize I don’t get my salary all at once. Slow and steady wins the race I guess.

The only thing I can do today is not spend money.
I look at it like a game of NOT spending money. How many days in a row can you go without spending money? Items you budgeted for don't count.
Even if something breaks or gets a hole or whatever, do you need a new one ASAP? Is there any way you can repair it? If you need to replace it, what's the most cost effective way to do it?
Being frugal and saying NO and resisting the urge to spend is an everyday thing
Make your budget now! Seriously, you know what you will receive for your next pay check, you know what you owe. Write them down, subtract what you owe from what you earn. Owe as in currently due bills, not total yet. When you have a picture of where you are then you can start looking at where you want to be.
Want to be debt free? Then first and foremost, who do I owe, how much is the total? List your debts from smallest to largest. You can actually do this before anything else. Are you in a deep hole? Stop digging!!!!!!!!
Once you know where you are, can you build a $1000 mini emergency fund? Sure you can, sell everything except the kids! Somewhere in your stuff you ought to be able to come up with that.
I could go on, but the essential thing is this: NOW IS THE TIME TO START!

Dave said “Rich people have wills and poor people have fights”. I have seen both happen and having loved ones fight instead of celebrating that persons life is the worst way to leave this planet.

The key is to get rich slowly. Make good financial decisions over a lifetime and this will increase your probability of becoming wealthy. Get rich quick schemes will often bring heartache.
Practical Business Tips I’m 19 years old. I want wealth as soon as possible, not when I’m 60. And it can be done, it has before.

If the get-rich-quick schemes have a 1% chance of paying off and a 89% chance of being a financial speed bump and a 10% chance of having lasting large detrimental financial effects, then you are taking a decent sized risk and repeating until the first one or the last one happens (Ralph Kramden) will more than likely end with the latter.
But, make smart decisions with the long game in mind, especially starting early, and you have a pretty good chance of getting to your mid-fifties while being largely set to not have to work in your retirement and likely retire a bit earlier than average.

You were referencing Proverbs 13:11-13 "Wealth gained hastily will dwindle,
but whoever gathers little by little will increase it."? If so, I fully agree with this proverb and recognize that my comment is not original.
The only sane way you can suddenly "get rich" overnight is either by a huge lottery win or massive inheritance windfall.
The other ways to "get rich" are to build a large, profitable business and invest any income or proceeds into other things which can generate you income. For example, you're a corporate executive earning $1m a year - you should not be going out and buying helicopters or a gigantic house that's 10x larger than what your family actually needs.
Don't try and live like a billionaire on a millionaire budget, because that will end in disaster. Live comfortably, not lavishly. Invest every spare dollar into other assets, such as property, stocks, real estate etc.
You can give yourself an absolutely huge side income and at that point work becomes more enjoyable. That's part of the reason why so many tycoons and the super rich work until they drop - it's because work has become a hobby as they don't need the money, so they are happy to keep at it.
Live on less then you earn.

My wife and I started watching Dave and my new favorite saying is "Don't be STUPID" 🤣🤣🤣. I love it. Makes so much sense. I love the biblical principles and now we are saving up for the financial peace University. Can't wait to go through it and get our new life underway. God is good

The phrase "Don't be stupid, you're taking financial advice from broke people" actually came up at my family dinner table the other night lol!
Me and my wife are about to pay off our last debt of $4600 student loan once we get the the lowered amount in the mail. Let me tell yall something, me and my wife make $60k combined and bc we paid everything that was a payment we are able to save 10k every 2 1/2 - 3months. This stuff works and i love that the principles come from the bible. God Bless
Amazing video, A friend of mine referred me to a financial adviser sometime ago and we got to talking about investment and money. I started investing with $150k and in the first 2 months, my portfolio was reading $274,800. Crazy right!, I decided to reinvest my profit and get more interesting. It took us almost a year but we finally paid everything off (student loans/2016 Corolla/credit cards) and I just sold my 2017 mustang today (10/28/18) and we are now finally DEPT FREE for the first time ever 😱. Thank you so much Dave for your teachings, now we can move to baby step 3

Dave Ramsey is my favorite and one of few online Mentors, I also love that he's a religious man. When we put God first, we are more blessed and emotionally happier.

I start my morning at 6AM taking a brisk walk around the neighborhood which takes 40 minutes, consequently the same amount of time as one of DR podcasts. It motivates me to start my day healthy and responsible, no frivolous spending!
Dave mentioned something that gave me a brilliant idea for practice for all you folks. Before you buy something, no matter the cost, (could be 3$ i dont care), take atleast 1-5 minutes to reflect on your financial goals and if the purchase is really worth it. Make sure what you are buying will bring some sort of value. Don't go out here just balling because you have some money.
The financial daddy that helps straighten us up with that real talk, real love.

I wish my 16 year old self could have listened to Dave (I'm 62 so that couldn't have happened). I didn't figure out this stuff until I was in my late thirties, which is much better than never. But, oh, how I wish I could impart what I know now to my 16 year old self. With Dave, you young people can do that. He's not lying.
True. The worst thing is that people don't know they don't know this, so they live their lives as everyone else. And that means with credit cards, leasings, in debt and broke. And nobody is teaching this (except of Dave). I found out there is such thing as investing when I was 29 years old, I always thought only rich people can do that. And I didn't invested much, because I spent almost everything. And finaly, last year (when I was 33) I discovered thing called frugality. I never thought I can save 60% of my income, just by not buying every single thing I like or find interesting, or nice... I never had a debt, so it took me only 5 months to get to baby step 4. But if only I found this out 10 years earlier, my net worth would be 5 times or more bigger.
I like Dave's biblical references and his advice. Even if I don't believe in God, I can still listen and learn..people who are offended by that are too mentally limited to ever benefit from Dave's information anyways!

When i was 13 My mom told me you can't do anything that costs money. When i was 16 she told me if you want to go to college you have to get a job. That was her long term thinking.
You're right. I learned this is the difference between how the wealthy and poor think.
Dave when my kid was born i immediately opened a 529 and a savings account for them so their college and future needs like cars, or home deposit will be supplied by me. So he will be better off than me.
that 529 is as dumb as a 401k. Any thing sold to the masses can and never will better for the masses. Only for the ones that came up with that sh*t.
My 529 is invested in mutual funds that have had a 10-12% return for the past 25 yrs. I've already made 18% this year on the money I invest. I also don't use a state ran 529 I use one that is attached to my investment fund account so they do not charge any fee's for the 529 since my investments are with them. Sure maybe I am dumb putting money away for my Kid so when I retire I will not be paying his student loans because he will not have them. Today you either save for education early and front load the costs, or when they go to school parents have to take out loans and back load costs. Anyone who thinks students can go to college on their own with just student loans is a idiot. Plus As I said no one did it for me so I'm trying to be the best Father I can by not riddling my son with loans in college.

I say the calculated risk takers make you rich. People who start businesses and work hard. No one can get rich by just working hard all their life. Some work hard and they are still poor.

True! But do not live recklessly and neglect to plan financially for those who are left behind. I heard of Christians did not have enough for their funeral expenses and the burden fell on others. They did not save, take out insurance or write a will. In all your getting, ask the Lord for wisdom and understanding. BTW, the book of Proverbs is an excellent resource for finances.😍

I literally read proverbs several times during the week. As well as other areas of the Bible.
The checkup may be helpful, but the real reason is to generate leads for his ELP program. Which is fine, just don't pretend you're doing it "out of the goodness of your heart."

The poor people fights over inheritance. I have seen that happen a lot in my country in the middle east as well amongst poor people. The human experience it seems does not vary that much. It is funny when he mentions it I remembered how my neighbors, 6 siblings, were fighting over the poor dweling of their dead brother, the whole thing is not worth any more than 20k at most. And they fought bitterly...
