Remember the Sing-Off, when Ben Folds commented, "I'm glad you didn't have to be Quadratonix,' or words to that effect? Well, in the interim after Avi left, but before they settled on Matt, they released "Dancing on my Own," and an upgrade of this classic children's Christmas carol. They invented a chorus with the lovely lilting refrain, but no words, and added the interesting percussive effects with snaps and pats and hand shuffles, that you pointed out. And the biggest change was that Kevin singing as an equal partner in advancing the momentum of the song. The location in the woods with the Victorian settee and bathtub has always seemed to me to be a coded reference to Avi, who started releasing woodsy, folksy tunes with a woodland setting as soon as he left the group. It's as if they're saying, "See, we can be at home in nature just as much as he can, and we can still produce the amazing Pentatonix sound, even when he is no longer with us." This is one of my favorites among all their Christmas music, and I wish it was reviewed more often. It certainly deserves it. Thanks for choosing it!
Yes, you are correct. This was filmed between Avi and Matt. It’s lovely and nobody has ANY idea why there is a bathtub or a chandelier in the middle of the woods!!!
Yes, this was done between Avi and Matt. It is amazing how they can take a well-known, simple carol and make it new and unique. Please include in your Christmas reaction list PTX Silent Night. It is just as unique and beautiful as this was. Also, there is one other song they did in the period between Avi and Matt - PTX Dancing On My Own. Please react to that one, too.
Not just the Catholic church. I spent a lot of my childhood in a Presbyterian church, and they sang "Amen" at the end of most of the hymns, using the plagal cadence, or as we called it, "the Amen chords." ETA: You mentioned Avi's unique and memorable name. It's a nickname for Avriel.
What a wonderful updating of this tired old carol. Your comments were really informative. Hope you are having a wonderful Christmas. I have a son born Dec. 28th and a grandson born Dec. 31st, so I can easily imagine how excited you must be now.
Thanks for doing Christmas with us Jacob, great reaction. I really like your input regarding the arrangements but it would be cool if you skip back afew seconds so we can hear what we may have missed in the content. Stay safe and have a blessed Christmas :)

I think the furniture in the woods is a nod to Avi and a music video he did (without PTX
@@FayolaOnline Interesting intel. Thanks.
@@FayolaOnline Oh, I hope that's true! I love "Quarter Past Four." Don't know about that one, but Kevin certainly played cello in "Fields and Pier."
@@janetranslates Ah ok I knew it was one from that EP., thanks.
Dancing on my own is also before matt their new bass
Yes, in DANCING ON MY OWN they use Kevin's cello (Beyonce) to cover for the bass.
@@jamesensley3906 seconded, the harmonies and Kevin's use of Beyonce (his cello) is amazing :)
Check out PTX Aha, Singapore live at the Star Vista. Avi and Mitch give a phenomenal live performance.
Pentatonix: White Winter Hymnal, they do a lot with their hands too, very cool stuff
Ooooo, yes, one of my very favourites :)
You for sure need to listen to their versions of Silent Night and O Come All Ye Faithful. They're two of my favourite.
Check out White Winter Hymnal - more slapping and a truly beautiful song. Thanks.
This was a tween song. Deck the Halls was Matt's first recording with the group. Just a few days after joining if i remember correctly.
