I love the way she shifts accents depending where she is. She's just got a natural ear for sound. I've heard her speak English in 3 different accents: British, filipino, and American.
Ha ha me too, I've commented on this on other videos. I don't think she uses the posh English accent any more though. On the more recent British interviews she just uses the American accent.
She had the English accent in 1988, when MISS SAIGON was in the works (it's evident in the 'making of' documentary) and when the play premiered in London. But then two years later, when it transferred to Broadway, she was already sporting an American accent, which she's kept ever since, even when she's interviewed in England. Methinks she chose to make permanent the American, so it would open more doors for her. British/Aussie actors also learn to master the American accent to get more roles in Hollywood. Most keep their natural accents, but then you have people like Portia de Rossi, who was born and raised in Australia, but has always sported an American accent professionally ever since she came on the scene in the '90s and even has it in her daily life. Charlize Theron is another who was born and raised in South Africa and whose first language is Afrikaans, but uses an American accent in everyday life and in her films. She had to teach herself to sound like that, she said, by watching lots of American TV/movies.
Fascinating. I wish I could go into different accents! As far as Salonga goes, she's great. And I'm very excited and pleased that she is taking "Fun Home" to the Philipines.
1:27: Lea's great answer to if she prefers heart or technique, more, in a singer. 2:29: Lea's great description of what makes a bad performance, for her. Simple and wise thoughts, from a phenomenal singer.
At 1:55, Lea instructed Boy Abunda "Wait ha." I notice that Boy and Kris (especially) have a penchant for interrupting their guests in the middle of their speech.
Perfect answer from the most perfect performer I've ever followed. I don't think I've ever seen anyone better than her tbh~ Since childhood, I've felt you in every performance. Lea. So this is the secret to them.
1:05. This goes to all Hosts and Interviewers: Please avoid interrupting the interviewee, that’s rudeness. Always show professionalism. There’s no point of asking questions when you don’t let the interviewee finish the talking. I don’t know if you are trying to impress the audience or you are bragging because it makes you feel that you are in command. Haha
The interviewers “interrupt” the guest when they think the question had already been answered. That’s a wise interviewer - he knows how to manage time and reins the conversation to the direction he intends for it to go. In TV shows, you can’t have the guest go on and on because time is money. If the guest is unable to answer concisely, sometimes the interviewer has to pivot and move on to the next question. It may sometimes sound disrespectful but that’s their job. Those who think interviewers are bad for interrupting when obviously points were already made, simply don’t know how to read the flow of the conversation. But there are also times when the interviewer misses the point being made by the guest and sometimes they get too excited over what the guest is saying and make unwise interruptions. Nobody’s perfect so before you attack these people who obviously got to where they are for being good at what they do, ask yourself first if you understand where they are coming from with their questions.
perfectionist talaga si Lea salonga when it comes to singing at musical stage acting, in a good way. kaya marami siyang naiuuwing parangal sa pilipinas
1:05 : Lea kasi is the type na pag talaga nagsasalita sya, she hates it when someone interrupts her. Dapat makinig ka lang while she talks. Sya lang ang magsasalita and after, yun pwede ka nang sumabat. Ito trivia ha. Sa isang concert ni Miss Lea, I remember watching there is somebody na nag guest and she shared her concert experiences tapos she mentioned that she appreciates the discipline and quiteness of Lea's audience. Sa lahat daw ng alam nyang concerts na napuntahan nya, (well locally, maybe) Lea's concert is the most na may ma disiplinang mga audience. She is one of the most respected singer. When she started to open her mouth, everyone kept their mouth shut and listens to her. Wala daw yung tipo ng audience na while the show is going on, there are these people who can't concentrate on their seat and will go in and out the rest room. 😂 And yes, btw I've been a fan of hers.
Amazed at how Lea can switch her North American twang on and off depending on who she's talking to. Here you clearly hear her spot on with the Pinot accent on which she uses more often than not when she's here. Wala Lang lol galing niya kasi
I'm not from the philippines so I'm wondering if people there normally mix English and a language like Tagalog in the same sentence in every day life ? Or do they normally just speak in one or the other ?
Well not all of us, but sometimes we used to talk like that especially there are other words which doesn't have any Filipino terms plus most of the Filipinos are really fluent when it comes to English.
It's called "Taglish". Some words or ideas are just more convenient to express in a different language depending on how the person thinks (ex: less syllables). It's most common in places near Manila where many people can understand English but are not necessarily fluent in it.
to answer the question weather we use English in mix with Filipino (Tagalog) in everyday life , we don't. ordinarily, we speak Filipino if we speak with a fellow and shift to English when called for and in formal settings or mix them up. but this is mundane to us to mix them up, after all English and Filipino are our official languages

I therefore conclude,Lea pertaining to Jona!!!!no need to hit the high note but the heart instead!hehhe
Galing tlaga ni Lea,matalino n,talented pa,at npaka professional nya, mgkaedad lng cla ni kris, preho ding february
Ang hirap panuorin. laging cinucut si Lea in the middle of her sentence.
lea is so eloquent ❤❤😢😅
Tama naman!
aside from the voice she needs more tv exposure she got the intelligence
Beautiful gal!!!!!
I agree with what Lea said regarding singing... my beef is with her attire. What is she wearing? She needs a stylist ASAP! She's a beautiful woman with miles and miles of talent, but dressing up, clearly, needs help.
ctn04132 LOL!!!! Harsh.... hehehehehe! True though
That's been a problem for a long time...
Sa mga intelligent convo na ganito, nga nga si Kris..... ang babaw pa ng binigay nyang opinion..she really helped.. lol
