- Graham Gouldman on the art of songwriting, the Yardbirds, the Everlys, skiffle, pre-Beatles showbands, old contracts, hand-written lyrics, his Dad's contribution to 'No Milk Today' and being sacked - "quite rightly" - from a Gentlemen's Outfitters in Salford.

What a lovely man, 10cc are underrated despite all their achievements.
One of the great pop writers who has never had enough credit for his awesome contribution to the soundtrack of our lives. Thanks, this is great.
The most beautiful live sound I've ever witnessed at a gig was none other than 10cc. Even better than Pink Floyd.
A fantastic 45 mins with one of Britains greatest songwriters ..superb gentlemen , thank you
What a super nice guy Graham Goldman is with such a fascinating history in music as a songwriter and in bands. Excellent. Thanks
A hugely underrated musician and writer. Love this guy!
What a lovely guy. I had the pleasure of interviewing Graham over the phone a few years ago for a local music mag I was editing at the time, and he was as enthusiastic, friendly & talkative as he was here. Great stuff.
Graham Gouldman " Whose " Infinite lyrical Genius " Has Been Enjoyed By " Many " Over The Decades " !!! In Addition He Is " One Of The Nicest People You Could Wish To Meet!!!! From Adrian Browne 1965
A fascinating interview. I loved 10cc music. Sophisticated stuff at the time. What a talented songwriter who remains a nice, down to earth bloke.
Always an entertaining gentleman. What a wonderful life he has led in music.
So So Love "Heart Full of Soul".....Really I think My Favorite of the 60's but closely followed by "No Milk today"!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so Love them both.....Thanks Y'all!!!!
A Wonderful " 3 Way Interaction " Which Will Be Worth Revisiting " Several Times Over " !!!! From Adrian Browne 1965
Lovely modest bloke, national treasure... and Graham Gouldman. Seriously; a fantastic songwriter, one of the best ever, anywhere.
I could just listen to Graham all day long, thank you for posting this. Saw the early version of 10cc when they were a support band for the Moody Blues at the ODEON Birmingham. That was the spark to the flame and been a fan ever since. Thank you for the music it’s been a complete joy. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Way back in 73 I wrote a review on the very first 10 cc album for a school newspaper project I won the best article prize of a small box of quality street. Absolutely loved the band . The first 3 albums were fantastic.
I love 10cc. Graham’s bass playing with the band is astonishing (and largely under appreciated). And what a songwriter! 💜
Hello David & Mark, I’m really glad you guys are keeping well! The Word In Your Ear gig we (Pugwash) played in the Lexington was a lovely memory. Stay safe fellas! 💜
GG is amazing. Wish original 10cc would attempt some new music. They're all still around. At the moment. And wish they'd play some of the old stuff together too. They dabble the old music as individuals (some of them). I can't help wondering if they could still create the magic
My wife got me us tickets to the concert at the Tropicana in weston super mare and I thought it was going to be a cover band , it wasn’t and they were absolutely brilliant , blown away at the quality on show, and what a lovely bloke Graham is .
You guys are awesome. Graham’s always a great interview but you two make it even better. Top shelf man.....John
Absolutely loved this - got me into Graham's recent LP, and back into that Beatles' release - my big sister had it and played it when I was about 5, so of course I memorised every song, and have the old LP! God bless Graham. Your songs, No Milk, For Your Love, Bus Stop, Mandy, Not in Love etc etc soundtrack my life
What a nice fella. I once mimed with cardboard drum kit and two mates on cardboard guitars, in front of our school class, aged 9, to "Good Morning Judge". Stardom didn't come calling.
10 cc made some brilliant stuff,totally underrated,became a fan in 2004
I saw this guy Graham standing there. It was in a late 10cc gig in Amsterdam and he was really ill and has no voice that evening. But Graham is music and always happy into it.Rick Fenn and the others support him through the songs and it made that evening a outstanding performance. THANKS Graham for all your music and never ending idea. I really loved this Word in your attic show!
another great one guys. one episode of Word in your Attic is worth a fortnight of dreary tv. Thanks so much
The first two bands whose faces I ever knew were The Beatles and 10cc. I was six years old, it was 1977, and Revolver and The Original Soundtrack were in my dad's tiny collection of popular gramophone records.
Really talented guy.
I remember going into Rare Records in Manchester in 1972, when the shop display was full of T Rex's The Slider. Graham's a decent man, and has written great songs over the years. Enjoyed the interview very much! 😊
I think it’s fair to say here that we ALL love Graham. 👍👍👍
Great interview with a legendary musician who played on one of Britain's greatest and underrated bands, !0cc.
Love it! What a nice guy!
My favorite songwriter.
Wow. The songwriting chat....I know exactly what Graham's talking about from my own experience over the last five decades. The harder it is to continue, the weaker the original idea. Always!
Really interesting interview. Worked in a music publishing agency in NY decades ago-tough business to get/protect the writers royalties!
FANTASTIC!! This didn't go for long enough....On the 24th September 1977 Graham and all the members of 10cc autographed my copy of Deceptive Bends and that night I saw them at the Perth Entertainment Centre (Western Australia). The range of songs from being in love to a snotty nose and then to a different beak, was excellent. The music for songs like 'Let It Be" and "Yesterday" sound like there was no other notes that could be put together for those lyrics. I would like to see lyrics for a song given to at least four musicians and see what backing music they come up with. Preferably well know musicians like Elton John, Paul McCartney, Graham Gouldman, Adele, Christine McVie etc. Take your pick.
Brilliant
Another great show. If I had to pick a greatest record of all time Bus Stop by the Hollies would be a serious contender. There was a interesting news item on our regional news program North West Tonight the other night about a lost 10cc demo from the original members. Music for a Revlon cosmetics advertisement that was never used. Recorded at Strawberry Studios and recently restored. Graham looked genuinely surprised it had turned up.
Such a pleasant surprise to see another excellent episode pop up in my feeds this morning.I'm proud to say that i have all classic 10cc albums on vinyl. For instance,i like to pull out Deceptive Bends on Sunny saturday afternoons. It always works.Mr Gouldman is of course a legendary master songwriter and always an interesting interview.Again, marvelous conversation and a delight in these trying times!Greetings from the Netherlands.
This is glorious!
Thankyou for your great songs Graham
Brilliant entertaining two pro DJ's and a music legend so interesting
Great writer !
Really interesting show, wonderful to see some of those momentos of Graham's.
an absolute hero of mine
If I had a choice of being in The Beatles or 10CC, it would've been 10CC every time. I would've been Lol ( my art school background). Saw them in 1974 at Trent Poly (Nottm). Graham looks great. Great songwriter.
Lad's, Thank Mr. Goldman for taking us back to when song's were song's. When Paul McCartney talked about his latest L.P. He said he had to do something their was only so much T.V. he could watch, so he just went to work everyday. Cheers, chris Perry.
great interview with a great guy
My biggest dream is to see Graham Gouldman live performing 10cc songs, here in Montreal!
Another great episode guys. Until recently, I only ever knew Graham as the bass player in 10cc. Now I know he wasn't just that, even in the band! Such a talented guy from the start and just so humble and ordinary about it all, without denying his talent and influences. 'The Worst Band in the World' book is still on my shopping list thanks to WIYA!
Great stuff thanks 🥃 x
I'm wishing the 10cc catalog would get the 5.1 treatment.
There is a DVD-Audio, 5.1 pressing of From The Front Row... Live! Two of the albums also exist as SACDs.
Thanks guys for another great episode, greetings from Thailand. (Fyi )
Really interesting, thanks. Let's not forget to mention his work with Andrew Gold in Wax.
Top man, my only wish i could get your autograph !!!!
I wish the talk could go on and on and on....
fantastic interview, thanks. Graham wasn't in the Mindbenders of course as mentioned at the start, that was Eric, his 10cc bandmate.
Actually, Graham was in the Mindbenders, too. He joined them during their last year as a band, in 1968.
@@harmonium8198 just testing :-)
10cc were such a Pop or Joke type band back in the 70's, in the vein of Queen and Elo, mid 70's might be the last time I heard their sounds. It's fascinating to see some folks in the mix remain alive and full of beans enthused by the memories of selling vinyls to the masses back then.
McCartney and girlfriend stayed that night in an apartment formerly occupied by the Asher family.
Great guest . Love 10cc. Beck & his dad David Campbell work together sometimes.
10cc great band ...I always thought they should have been bigger though nevertheless it doesn't matter in the great scheme of music
For all intensive purposes, 10cc was a supergroup, but I’d love to see him teamed up with a of his contemporaries. Maybe a Jeff Lynne, David Gates or a John Woloschuck would be a keen fit as writing partners.
For all 'intents' and purposes, Graham Gouldman has done exactly that which you ask of him. After 10cc he hooked up with US singer songwriter Andrew Gold for a couple of albums under the name of WAXX. Check them out
@@eldiablo8580 already have. Wax is alright.
John Woloschuck is a full time accountant these days, and has been for probably 35 years.
@@olafbigandglad and from interviews I’ve read, he feels like he would’ve been further ahead if he had just chosen that route from the beginning. Just wished we got more music from John. I think he was a true genius.
37:14 for the telegram...from 1976 !
Wax magnetic heaven is a fantastic album
First record I ever bought was ,I'm just a love machine an I won't work for nobody but you. I must of been 10 ish.
@32:41 Squeeze ?
Probably the best word yet, thank you
