  • Learning to climb can be a bit daunting for beginners. You need to know how to navigate the gym, what rock climbing gear to buy/rent, and generally might be intimidated by the lingo everyone is using, not to mention the climbing and belaying training you have to go through. Anytime you get into something new, these feelings come up. Yet it doesn't need to be like this, which brings us to the point of our BLUF videos. Hopefully this rock climbing video gives you a little bit of knowledge of the sport and an idea of how much fun climbing can be so you can make the decision on jumping in or looking elsewhere.
    The outdoor climbing in this video was at Castle Rock State Park in California. The indoor climbing was at Rock Out Climbing Gym in Destin, Florida.

      TaylorBedo but also if you look at other climbing channels you have people like Magnus Midtbo and compared to that, he is a beginner (no offense). I mean Magnus can do a freaking 1 arm muscle up and 20 muscle ups after a long climbing day, and he also has amazing technique so it isn’t just pure strength either, etc.

Started taking mtb more seriously a year and a half or 2 ago and have somewhere in the 2000-2500 mile range in so It wouldn’t be first sport to fall in love with. I have 5-6 huge boulders in my yard largest one is 40-50x30-40 and about 15-20feet tall. We’ve actually had people come and boulder on them before there’s a pretty hard vertical route that i definitely can’t do I used to use my moms rock climbing shoes😂 so much to learn I can’t wait and I’ve got practice in my backyard😂

    let me tell you noobs a little story about wearing helmets,
    for years I skated, mostly street, with no helmet, went to the local indoor park one day with my friends and they had introduced a new compulsory helmet policy after some crazy parent tried to sue the skate park.
    we all bought one and went at it.
    after skating some ledges and rails I went to drop in on an empty pipe, it was not a big ramp only about 5ft high.
    every thing normal, tail on the coping, dropped in and disaster.... I didn't know it but I'd snapped my back kingpin on a previous landing...
    my board fish tailed all over the place, I came off, my ass hit the other side and the back of my head smashed the steel coping so loudly the whole park stopped to see what had just happened...
    i shrugged it off and fiddled with my snapped King pin, 45 minutes later... I didn't know my name, how old I was, where I lived, where I was or who I was with... passed out.... 8hrs later I woke up on my friends dinning room table...
    if I wasn't wearing that helmet I'm pretty sure I'd have permanent brain damage.
    my advice buy a helmet first.... your dealing with a lot more force than skating a small halfpipe
    and as you go forward dont forget to assess the equipment your using, is it time to retire it before something bad happens?
    goes for anything, cars, lovers, friends, jobs, get in and get out. safely.
    8 billion people and 155 million km2 to explore, what ya hanging around for 😉

    Found out there is a huge gym in the area we moved to. Going today and I really hope they welcome new comers but 99.9% of the time people in niche hobbies are terrible with new people.

    When you go outdoors how do you place the bolts? Are they already placed? Who places them? How do you know they’re safe? How many newbie question can I fit into one comment?

    • @BottomLineUpFront
      @BottomLineUpFront  4 года назад +1

      The bolts will already be there if it's a known route in an area known for climbing. How do you know you can trust them? You don't! But you can usually look at a bolt and make a decision if you want to trust it. Routes that are frequently climbed will usually have bolts in good conditions, as they're looked at/assessed by experience climbers very frequently.

    Me during the video: dang, that jerky looks delicious
    Me after the video: WHERE DO I FIND A HOGEY THAT BIG!?!
    Please comment below if you know a good sandwich place

    I did see the movie Free Solo and I have a question. I did expect to see
    anchor bolts on the way. you need anchor bolts (to lock you anchor pins) for
    practise. Why were there no anchor bolts on this route? Do you know?

    • @johannwinkler2183
      @johannwinkler2183 5 лет назад

      Robert Zwier they use trad gear( If you liked the movie watch valley uprising next)

    • @sticbic
      @sticbic 5 лет назад +2

      The anchor bolts are used for lead climbing. It is where you clip yourself on as you climb up.
      They were top rope climbing, where there is just one pulley at the top that the rope wraps through

      We will admit that the gyms have gotten a little pricey -- I think that can be attributed to climbing becoming more and more popular.
