thank u for saying that we are not the problem for buying fast fashion, in my city all i have is inditex (the company that owns zara, pull&bear...) so i have to buy fast fashion cause theyre literally no other stores than that! (and also i can't buy from small brands cuz they're expensive and im broke)
''What if fast fashion wasn't fast'' I think is a good compromise if the other avenues aren't possible and/or sporadically. I bet a person buying a cotton dress or a viscose cardigan from fast fashion a few times a year, taking good care of it and wearing it to the end of its use (like many working class people do) is better than the ladies buying fancy quality clothing every month and sending them to thrift stores because of a minor thing like color or fit like I often see influencers doing online (even the 'sustainable' ones). If you are buying quality clothing you should think about these things BEFORE you buy to be frank. That's not to say I support fast fashion wholly though, I know how the exploitation of workers in fashion happens firsthand. That isn't exclusively a fast fashion problem though, it is a problem in the whole industry with few exceptions. PS: The pineapples falling off trees tho lol
Love this comment , so insightful thank you :) the vast vast majority of clothes I own are second hand , mostly from Vinted . But very occasionally I will buy fast fashion. I just wanted everyone to know that sometimes designer / small business is too expensive and thrifted is not viable and you are never a bad person for living within your means and buying a fast fashion item :)
@@ashleighcallaghan Yes, I loved your vision about this topic, I totally agree! I'm the same (btw this week I found a cream silk shirt second hand and I'm sooo happy, I can see myself wearing it for many years to come). I think the most important thing is to always try to find the best balance in regards to sustainability and social issues, love your content
i wouldnt be able to replace most of my stuff cuz most of my wardrobe is thrifted. but the things i'd replace: unif omiko baby tee, yoshitomo nara t shirt, low rise jeans (from any brand as long as their flared and dark or medium wash.) And of course, my doc marten boots. I agree about the fast fashion thing! The real problem to me is people who most definetly have the resources to easily not buy fast fashion but still do 500 dollar shien hauls. For most people they need to prioritize other things and its the big companies often putting blame on us when a lot of it is their fault. great vid!
glasses girly here .... And omfg how I missed the feeling of REL when you told ur story about glasses ... same here and the concept of buying a few more frames is genius and love you for that and thank u bby and I love your pair of glasses
i only recently found ur account and you are the most relatable, and funny yet politically outspoken person ive ever seen, i think ive fallen inlove with you, dont ever die pls ur so underrated 😞🙏
thank you for saying that about fast fashion!! funny timing, I just made a video on my instagram on what I purchased in europe because I lost my luggage so I had nothing on me there for over a week and I had to make immediate purchases!!! I felt super bad about buying fast fashion but I wasn't in the position to drop $$$ on luxury/ sustainable brands
this is exactly the kind of moments im talking about !! 90% of my wardrobe is thrifted and I always feel so bad about the 10% that isn't, but I know that 10% is full of things that I genuinely love or that I have had for years or that I needed for a purpose , or all three ! and if I find it hard to tell myself that it is ok to buy fast fashion occasionally then I imagine its the same for a lot of others ! I imagine it is the same for you, so I am so glad that I could reassure you that fast fashion is not categorically bad :Dxxxx
i loved your comment on fast fashion! i always try to buy things with a lot of thought and mostly from the thrift, but i have also made purchases from fast fashion brands, and i still use them even after years! and the ones i dont use have already been turned into different things because i love diy-ing stuff lol
If I lost my entire wardrobe I would neeeeeed these tshirts I have made of rayon. They fit me so well. Unfortunately they are fast fashion but I wear them constantly. If I had to repurchase, they’re actually a knockoff of a skims item I believe so I would look for those secondhand. And then also my skims shapewear bralettes. Similarly a favorite item. Lastly a pair of low-mid rise loose fit chinos and my Birkenstocks.
Ah THANK UOUUUU for telling me (heheheeh u must have come from insta !!) I’ve had another person say they got the cat one, ill share the results of my test on insta later if you’d like to see what the masses thought (statistically eheheh)

8:20 just a little note on the fast fashion comment I am all for buying what you can afford as growing up everything I owned was fast fashion or hand me downs from family and friends now I'm a uni student with my own money I buy mainly second hand with a few exceptions however the fast in fast fashion is on the consumer the fast is in relation to the production and likely hood of destruction to the clothing as a result of a fast production time (most likely with not the best materials) I have tops from Primark I bought 6 years ago that I still wear but that doesn't make it it no longer fast fashion ive just seen this type of talk online before and wanted to address it here :)
AHHHH MY LOVELY LOVELY INSTAGRAM FRIEND !! thank u so much for telling me :))))) I will share the (actual real life statistical) results on Instagram soon if you would like to see what people ACTUALLY thought !:)))
@ashleighcallaghan im speechless. I bought mine around a year ago for 120euro. They weren't even close to what I initially wanted but I needed to be able to see lol.
@ashleighcallaghan also Hii 👋❤️ just wanna say you have the sweetest energy and I'm new to your channel. I feel like you talk to the camera like we are your siblings just chatting in your room.
Heyy wanted 2 tell u that I got the thumbnail with the cats and pyjamas(I voted for that btw lol) yk gives like 2000s vibes like it's giving girl sitting on her bed recording w those old cameras which ig ur technically doing?
You kind of are a problem, though, unless fast fashion basics and necessities well and truly is all you can afford in the absence of 2nd hand shopping. You can demand conglomerates to change all they want, but why would they? They want to make money, and you are not willing to part with any of your cheap luxuries, they get away with what they do because they make themselves and the politicians who support them very rich, and you and even me and just about everybody else want to have our cheap fashion, we want a lot of it. It's just somewhere along the line we started assuming that ethics in fashion, and cheap abundance, are mutually compatible and therefore we don't have to change our behaviour. Corpos cannot profit off of what you and I aren't buying, you know. They literally do not have to change, they're making too many people rich, and bejng rich means suffering less from the climate consequences etc. So if they don't have to change, then the consumer has to force it by changing their consuming habits, giving up a few useless cheap luxuries, and NOT BUY. Simple as. It's like losing weight. For some it is near impossible and they don't deserve the hatred for it, but for the most of us it's the rather simple math of eating a little less and moving a little more, which are all uncomfortable as hell if you're used to sitting on your arse and eating to your heart's content. Just like buying less will be uncomfortable for someone who is used to getting their dopamine fix by cheap, abundant clothes with overnight shipping.
such an insightful comment thank you so much for this. I agree with you, it is a problem when we become dependent on it for providing our happiness, but for the majority of people I don't think this is the case, it is more so that we cannot afford or it is not viable to buy second hand/small business/made to order etc. I think we are in such a stale mate at the moment as buying second hand is no longer cheaper than buying fast fashion and so many brands are greenwashing that we are not sure what is ethical and what isn't. For a lot of people, clothes are to clothe us and in order to leave as much room as possible to look after ourselves and our families, the cheapest and easiest source for clothes is chosen. I am in the fortunate position where I can afford to consume with ethics in mind and have an interest in fashion so am happy to spend my time researching small brands and the validity of their ethical claims or sifting through endless piles of second hand clothing where the majority of it isn't viable. idk its a really hard thing to navigate which is why we need to give people grace for buying fast fashion as we cannot tell what privilege people have or do not have. :) thank you again for such an insightful comment I hope you have a lovely day xxxx
