Dude, I’m in the same zone than you, already watch this video (and others about this guitar) and I really really really want it. I just hope it will still be in catalog by the time I’d have saved enough money to buy it.
@@kamarienedwards1757 I did get one eventually. While I found it to be a very well built guitar, I didn’t enjoy playing it all that much. While the tones and playability were all fine, I didn’t find it to be anything all that special … just a good guitar that cost a lot of money and didn’t really fit me. I think “fit” is an issue that doesn’t get addressed all that much with PRS. They are fine to play standing up, but , at 6’2 210, I find the body shape awkward when sitting down. Instead of simply playing, I feel like I’m constantly moving the body to make my hand comfortable up and down the fretboard. Good guitars; just not for me. (For context, my two favorite guitars are currently a White Falcon and Jazzmaster-ish guitar).
Feels somewhat like a cop-out that the deadheads looking for a more affordable version of john’s dead and co guitar don’t even have access to the middle narrow field in isolation on this guitar. Thought at first glance this would be something I’d love but it seems not ideal.
Mayers guitar had the pickups closer to each other (I guess inspired by the 3 pickups SG) so it sounds really different, each pickup has it's own coil split (I am not a fn on coil splits, even in my guitar its fair) and it has a active circuit (buffer and treble boost). Since the pickups position is different and the scale length is different, it's not comparable to the Super Eagle. it looks like it's inspired by the super eagle.
I feel like a Bryan's Guitar Core model would sell regardless of how he configured it. PRS players seem to just like and respect him so much that they would want his signature model.
Beautiful sounding guitar, but like many PRSs, if you play with the trem bar in, it blocks access to the pickup selector switch for on the fly changes while soloing.
I have an original series Studio, a first-year DGT, an SC-245, and a 509, and what I missed was the sound of a good semi-hollow. I’m thinking something is going to go to make room for this model.
I played one today and had all intentions of buying it, BUT it wouldn’t stay in tune... thanks to the trem, sounded good and was pretty maybe I will buy it anyway and just put a block where the trem comes back
I emailed and asked. “Thank you for writing PRS Guitars. The new Special SH will have a nitro finish and the pickup and not the MT, they are the LT with the TCI style wiring. They sound very similar with a little less output, so a little clearer and truer singlecoil when split. “
1000 times preferable buying this guitar over a boring Les Paul. This guitar is real value, usability and versatility for the serious guitarrist focused on playing/making great music.
I really want one of these but… PRS, please do a run with Pattern Thin necks with a means of switching to the middle pickup on its own, maybe a push/pull switch on the tone knob?
You released this one two years ago, I have it and it's really awesome. btw, the positions switch have two in between modes that sounds really clear :)
what's the difference comparing to the Special 22 semi hollow launched in 2018 except the pickups are changed to LTs instead of MTs and the bass pickup installed reversed.
oh why oh why prs can you not add a push pull to get the middle narrowfield by it self. I have a wood library one of these and I love it but that would be my one change that I wish they would have done bringing it back into the core line.
It’s awesome they’re adding this to the arsenal, however I can’t help but be mildly annoyed that I ordered mine when they’re were supposed to be limited to 6 month window. I took a complete gamble spending the most money I’ve ever spent on a guitar that wasn’t even built yet (which I realize was my decision to make) but fast forward 2 years and now I’ve seen a fistful of these Specials that I would’ve rather had. I guess what I’m saying is, unless it’s a private stock, I won’t be falling for that again 💁🏻♂️😬
@@omnicognatesnr5947 Ok, so I’m not alone then! Yeah, man I agree. Now I’m left wishing for these other tops I’ve seen that I blatantly like more, and now with these different pickups I’m wondering if I also have an inferior sound too. Kinda sucks. And I’m an absolute PRS fanboy, the kinda guy that Gibson players hate, and so it feels like a personal kick in the balls 🙁

Yep. I was at Experience 2018 (in June 2018) when the Special 22 Semi-hollow was announced, and it was supposedly only available for orders placed through August 31 2018. So I bought one at Experience 2018 and brought it home with me. Love love love the guitar, but I was surprised to see that they kept coming, presumably via Wood Library runs by dealers. It's interesting that they changed the pickups now, from the 58/15MT ("multi-tap") to 58/15LT. The 58/15MTs have no drop in volume when tapping the coils. True, not the spanky single-coil sound, but that's what my Silver Sky is for!
@@nathanw32 Ah damn, well that makes it sting even more because the single coil tones are exactly what I feel is missing from mine. The 2nd & 4th positions have no quack at all, and it all just sounds like different humbucker tones to me. I love PRS beyond belief but I really feel like we all got a swift kick in the dick for jumping on a limited run that was never limited and only improved 3 years later. 😑 Unless they offer some opportunity to send in our old ones to be upgraded at a fair cost, I can’t help but feel betrayed by my own faith and loyalty to them. The lesson I’ve learned is to just wait to buy used later down the road because I’ll only get burned financially otherwise.
Funny one of the few videos where I was glad I got the guitars I have the SSH LTD , seems he kept looking for a bit more gas and that's what it sounded like to me.
Delete the F hole, swap out the bridge with an 85/15, make it traditional 5-way wiring, add a push/pull on the tone for the bridge/neck feature, add neck binding. There! It’s perfect!
Some of these comments...”oh no, you can’t get just the middle pickup!”....you can easily rewire it to do that...how about enjoying everything else this guitar offers?
Why is it the neck pickup been turned around with the pole pieces now nearer the neck? In all the earlier guitars, this pickup was the other way around?
