- Super happy with finishing this category for now with a time a bit lower than I expected to get. This is a strange run where I didn't put together a clean segment at the start (up to bombs) but then played really well to Phantoon and won a lot of time back. With those kind of paces a medicore set of patterns (fast/slow) is good enough to run away with and try and pb which thankfully this did comfortably. This is also one of those weird pbs where unfortunate and uncharacteristic mistakes occurred here and there which admittedly do irk me and only go to show what could have been rather than something to gloss over, for me anyway: Missing fish tank jump, messing up Botwoon slightly, shooting Ridley's tail made me have to force another swoop. From Ridley kill to the ship - while no golds - was very strong and probably the highlight of the run as far as lengthy period of gameplay goes. There was also a close call at Phantoon narrowly missing getting tagged from both Phantoon and the flames and almost being too close to pull off the final air doppler. The Metroid skip being turned into a 4 jump is probably the least satisfying part of the run since I've been very consistent at 3 jump. It was another close call where the lag was so intense and could've easily forced me to jump early and ride the wall trying to escape. Glad I focused there. Sometimes a pb is more memorable for its mistakes and rollercoaster moments than its actual time. Guess I can live with this!

Gah! Missed it again. Massive PB, congratulations, my dude! Such a nice clean run, though, had a blast watching it-especially the endgame. Almost as if it was sharper than the first half, unthinkable for such a pace.
The usual theory discussion: Relative to PRKD this would be about equivalent to 40:5x, I think? The difference in length at the same level of optimization has been continuously overestimated over the years, this is yet another confirmation it's actually closer to 80 seconds (SM speedrunning wiki still puts it at two minutes, so I'm gonna fix that as soon as I finish writing this comment). Just as PRKD can still go to 40:3x, KPDR will eventually go to 41:5x in the final act of route redemption, haha. Never thought I'd see the day, but it looks likelier than ever now...
Thank you moozooh! Oh yeah the 2 minute estimate is very old and inaccurate now. I've also wondered if the difference could be as low as 80 seconds as you suggested even if that is more on the lower estimate. Closer to 85 or 90 feels a little more accurate as far as how it 'feels' for what it's worth. These things are hard to quantify as the routes have different types of time sinks. If we study sum of bests, zoast and oats both have 39:5x's now, where's I have a 41:43 in KPDR. The difference is definitely not as high as 100 seconds so that means my sum of best hasn't been pushed low enough and maybe more splits would've helped with that. Now looking at the runs themselves a 90 seconds difference puts my run at about 40:44. Now it would feel like trolling to say it's a better run than theirs so conceeding to an 85 second difference puts it at around 40:49 which is perfectly fine with me. I've also said that if fast/fast was a hypothetically guaranteed pattern my goal would've been 41:5x. Now the same kind of time and hypothetical goal to me in PRKD would be around 40:30 in my eyes. I'm really just waffling numbers here with no concrete evidence but these are my thoughts having spent a lot of time with KPDR and seeing where things have apparently 'ended up' in these most recent times.

What a rollercoaster of a run, but god damn the WR is well deserved. Totally agree with you there, the runs that have ups and downs usually are more memorable.
But with this put to rest and hundo next, Zeni having his recent WR, Oats wanting to do hundo when he gets WR in any%, the hundo category is looking mighty spicy in the coming months.
Is Zoast having any plans for hundo aswell? 😂

Wow man congrats! I just finished my first casual playthrough of Super Metroid and it was an absolute treat to watch this run afterwards. Your movement in this game as well as Metroid 2 Samus Returns is really impressive and fun to watch! I noticed you have some speed runs of Metroid Prime 2, and I'm sure your movement on there is insane as well. I am curious about why you have done runs on Metroid Prime 2, but not the original Metroid Prime. I look forward to watching your other runs as I continue to progress in the Metroid series! Congrats again.
Thank you! Prime 2 is my favourite Prime game so I chose that one first at least. The whole trilogy is great though.
