An interesting duality to this performance. After starting with a chorale prelude, presumably by Bach, the choir seems to be singing the original Martin Luther version, full of the feel of Greek modes, and lots of open fifths (which Baroque composers avoided like the plague). The congregation, however, seems to be singing the more familiar Bach arrangement of the chorale.
AML2000 Yes I noticed that too. I read in Bach's biography that he often got told off for extemporizing at great length on hymn tunes and losing the congregation. It does not seem to be the case here.I am not sure if Bohme is improvisation on the tune himself here or playing a Bach improvisation. Of course in the UK extemporizing on hymn tunes is common especially with all the clergy processing. The boys are fabulous but sound at odds with the more flamboyant initial improvisation: renaissance and baroque if you will.
This choral prelude is amazing and I will be glad having score of it. But I am pretty sure, it is not from Bach... I found only BWV 720 and this is - unluckily - far away from style of this one...

Hello! I'm working on a team that's responsible in Brazil for promoting the celebrations of the 500 years of the Lutheran Reformation. I would like to ask if it would be ok for us to use part of this video on a clip made for our Facebook with the hymn being sung in diferentes languages. Thanks
My Battle Hymn of the moment (Still!): I found myself revisiting, and revising my translation of Martin Luther’s old Battle-Hymn of the Reformation. Allow me to gift you with the new revision: A mighty fortress is our God, Our wall, our weapons, flailing! He helps us free from our poor lot, A bulwark never failing! Our old, evil Fiend, As bad as he means! Though armed with malign, Will fail in his design! God's Grace is e'er availing! Our earthly might is all in vain, Our powers unavailing, But Whom God chose shall bear our sword, His mighty stroke unfailing. You ask, who it be? Christ Jesus is He! The Lord Zabaoth! No other God shall be! He's who our God is fielding! Should earthly might fall by the side, With Satan's pow'r, unyielding? We'll fear for naught, God's on our side! He'll help us in succeeding! The secular lords Their pow'r may unfold For us matter not! God's Justice we'll behold! The Word will leave them bleeding! God's Word endures, his works unfold! His Plan, with gifts unmeasured, Will grant you bounty, count untold - But what you really treasure, Though robbed of your wife, Wealth, children, and life, Let go, without strife! There's one thing they will miss! His Kingdom's yours, forever! And to help you with the important tempo-hiatus to 3/4 time in the middle of each verse, lost in the customary English translation, which denotes the imperfection of evil and conflict, a link to the original German version. (The even older version I first learned segued not just into 3/4 tempo, but into minor key for TWO lines of the middle segment, before the triumphant last line, back in Major!) This rendering has only faint echoes of Luther’s original.
Sakralmusik bin, insbesondere barocker.
WOW! He played that introduction as if he had diarrhea and wanted to get it over with as soon as possible. The choir sounds wonderful too bad the organist isn't up to their caliber.
Where is Georg-Christoff? Was it his day off? I love the tash and hairdo of the conductor though!I am surprized that Prof Bohme needs the music for this as it is THE Lutheran hymn. I am just wondering how often the Walcker organ is used now that they have the "Bach" organ. Only thing that spoils this is the wannabe soprano with the heavy vibrato going. Every church has some lady who thinks she is Maria Callas :/
Chor Gesang ohhh thank you yes I know the Bach organ (Weil I think) as I have a recording of Dame Gullian Weir playing it. Is the Sauer still used? It is more suitable to Reger than Bach I think but it is lovely.

@@l000kin This Choral Prelude is a improvisation from Prof. Böhme, there is probably no score available.
Amazing to think when Luther wrote this hymn centuries ago, it would still be sung worldwide centuries later.

Herr Böhme vielleicht können Sie das "Bach"-orgel in Dordrecht prüfen.
Schön. Leider singt die Gemeinde nicht das Ursprünliche Rhythmus. War doch schöner gewesen oder... ? Schöne Satz am Anfang von Prof. Böhme.

Why the music sounds similar to “Von Himmel Hoch”?
Both chorals were (co-)writen by Martin Luther in the 16th century and the melodys were assimilated afterwards.
What a beautiful! What language is this?
