Thank you for watching! This is very exciting! LIKE the video and Subscribe if you haven’t already! Road to 5,000 subscribers with your help! We are two non-surgical orthopedic and spine medical specialists. We are not musicians. This song by James Blunt is incredibly powerful. Are there other songs with similar impact? This one is so raw and heartfelt and the video adds to its impact.

02:56 Why, why, just why did you use a video which had the wrong overlaid lyrics??? "You can feel my hand on your own" is just wrong!!! The correct lyrics if you listen properly and is in the official video are: "You can feel my hand on your arm"! 👎

For an interesting mediation on war, and its effect on the people at the sharp end - James Blunt "No Bravery". If you get the right video version you get some of his video diary from his tank in Kosovo.

4th stage kidney disease, did end up getting a donor organ and is ok today. At end of video he asked why is everybody crying, I'm still here. Lost my dad at 15 think I feel worse for my friend who is going through both parents dying now at his age of 58. Another gd reaction guys, keep it up!

You missed the very final seconds of the video where James's dad pats his arm gently. Such a poignant moment.
Very much relate to the "orphan" comment. Lost my mum when I was 30 and my dad at 50, so I was a grown adult, but somehow I still suddenly felt incredibly alone in the world... I felt like an orphan. It's an extremely difficult life transition whenever it happens, but as you said, it's because you have the love there that it causes you so much pain.

If James hadnt made this song his father would never have got the transplant he needed ? A very distant relative heard it and got in touch and was a perfect match !

This is an incredibly emotional song. I first heard it sung by Iam Tongi on American's Got Talent. I appreciate your perspectives given the mortality issues in your profession.
I think at some point, death becomes clinical objectivity when a profession brushes against it constantly. Songs like this, for me, break through that wall and make things more human.

The statement I'm not your father, your not my son, we're just 2 grown men saying goodbye was what they said to each other when James Blunt who was a Captain in the British forces and his father who was a Colonel said to each other when the former was deployed to Kosovo as part of the NATO peacekeeping forces. They had to manage their emotions in order to function James Blunt went to boarding school aged 7 so they were not particularly comfortable with public displays of strong affection, preferred introducing humour.
The father had previously donated a kidney but the remaining kidney was failing, and he was in stage 4 kidney failure and was a rare blood type, no donor had been found. After the song came out a distant cousin got tested, was a match and donated a kidney. The cousin was from the other side of the world and coincidentally had the same name, first and last names as the father..

Oh wow i actually didn't know that. I knew about the stage 4 kidney cancer and the cousin donated. But i didn't know why he sang "im not your son, your not my father..."
Makes the song even better. Appreciate the info.

We are a little surprised, too! If we can ever get Zinovy to cry, that will be incredible. But don’t let our lack of tears fool you - that was one of the most moving songs we have ever experienced and it touched us quite profoundly. Tears are just not something you are likely to see from us….but then you never know….

I was initially surprised too but as a former health care professional myself there's a way health care professionals learn to detach. And it can seem like coolness but it really demonstrates a respect for the voice of the person sharing the pain and understanding your need to be a keen observer and not let your feelings disrupt their process. I don't know that's true for these two doctors but that is at least part of what I sensed. The need to not let the self intrude

I am 46 years old now and have lived in a different country than my parents for more than a decade now, b u t my Dad still calls me "Kind" (child) whenever we speak.
I guess if he would call me by my actual name I'd still think that I was in trouble deep 😂
Whenever I am home they still spoil me rotten because (and I quote) it's their privilege to spoil my brother and I and their grandboys.
They are getting older now and I first listened to Monsters on the day (2 weeks ago) when my father had yet another open heart surgery. Not the best day for that I am telling you 😅
My Dad is much better now, but I am dreading the day when I will have to say goodbye.
Lovely reaction to an amazing song. Thank you 😊
Lots of love from Spain ☀️

“Monsters” was a heartfelt tribute to his father. The emotional track reflects the deep bond between them and a touching farewell. In the music video for “Monsters,” James Blunt sings directly to the camera, his eyes welling up with tears...The video is so powerful because sitting beside James Blunt is his real-life dad, Colonel Charles Blount. who was a former cavalry officer, battling stage 4 chronic kidney disease. The song captures the raw emotions of facing mortality and saying the things one wants to say to a loved one before it’s too late 💗 I can never get through this, without crying..........

His Father was in the military and would say those words, "We are just 2 grown men saying goodbye" to James when he was leaving to serve. It was his fathers way of preparing his son James in the event he never returned. Coping mechanism for them both. Being English it's 'Stiff upper lip' attitude to loosing someone you love. Never show emotion or weakness. One of the mistakes no doubt as a young man James would have rather liked a hug and to hear his father say - I love you son.

Hi, I was curious about your reaction and reply. Being a clinical psychotherapist dealing with deep trauma including suicidals and terminal patients or some who really just want to die I have regularly faced the death of my clients. Even some that I worked with several years.
I find it very important in spite of the impulse to distance ourselves that we are careful how we do it. If we are not careful we easily lose part of our humanity and we stop dealing with human beings and just work with problems and diseases. I saw this in some of my colleagues.
I found healthy ways of dealing with death or severe trauma still keeping the relationship human to human. Like also my very long goodbye to my closest relative.
