How about that WARMAG eh? They're awesome for sponsoring! (Uhm, ad btw) : bit.ly/HSWarmag Also, shout out to Elliot, Nick and Andy for helping me paint the Imperial Fists many many moons ago, and to Josh from ThePickleJar for filming and editing!
That's been my goal with some of the epic stuff I picked up before they closed the line down. I put my infantry ork figures on washers and came up with magnetized base templates for the larger formations to streamline movement and attacks between squads. But, my goal is to simply use the dice-chucking stats and mechanics of 40k.
if you added a detachable magnet board to cover up the bottom opening of the case, youd solve the problem and have somewhere to safely place casualties and reinforcements during play
If I were to buy Legion Imperialis, this is what I would want to do. Excellent job! I'd really like a Warmaster version for some WHFB action if I had any Warmaster minis.
Me and my brothers also play it as 40k because there are huge Armies in the Starter Set. I had to built some 10mm Terrain because the GW One is sold out in my Region.
I have started a Space Wolves army like this. I explained to the guy in the Warhammer shop in Eastbourne what I was doing, when I showed him how I converted my Heavy Bolter armed heavy weapons squad contemptor dreadnought conversions told him my plans to add cloaks and bare heads to some models he said I'm mad. With I was going inches to centimetres but it doesn't scale right so I'm going to try to work out quarter scales, the blast/flamer templates are going to be fun to calculate... Sigh
You need three pieces of wood to make the bottom of the board/case. The 3rd is the width of the gap and placed in the middle of the 2 bigger panels, then hinge them all. The end pieces of the middle piece should be triangular to seal the carry case when closed.
That is a really great concept, you've got there! You've already mentioned printing a sleeve for the bottom part of the case, but another thing you could maybe try would be a "book" style case, with a spine in the middle. It would avoid having the opened part at the bottom or having to print a cover for that
You need like a stiff sheet which you firmly attach on one face, and sorta slides into a pocket on the other face. A bit of pre-scoring/folding and it should cover the gap nicely
If I were to do this I would have made 2 identical halves that are turned 180 degrees so that the walls fully seal when closed. This would result In open walls durring play but I think having more secure travel is better imo
The sleeve could double as a dice tray so you dont need to risk the big dice rolling next to the tiny models. it could hook on to the side when its not on the bottom
I'm sure someone else has suggested it, but you could drill out holes in the frame, inset magnets, and then do the same with a plywood cover or something over the hinge gap
you could just use a peice of thin wood with magnets to cover the gap and add some magnets to one side so when you have it open you can just attach the panel to the magnets and its out of the way nice and secure
good luck with that open ended case 😄 Idk I wouldn't trust those fridge magnet sheets to hold from absolutely every applied force it could sustain in transit and the fix would be super simple cut out slots about 1 cm from the bottom and make an open ended box with corresponding stepps that would then allow you to slide it onto the case. I think we can all agree that losing models would be the last thing anyone would want in every other respect amazing build and interesting concept
@@HellstormWargaming Get a metal ruler and set magnets in the wood frame to cover the opening. Pop the ruler off before you open the case and you have a way to measure during the games. Close up the case, slap the ruler back down on the magnets, and you have some added security covering the opening.
My initial thought is how no-one seems to have pulled you up on saying 0.6cm is the same as 60mm - great video though! If I had the time I'd make a travel 40k!
Great vid which has inspired me to look into something similar for Bloodbowl. Maybe you could consider a magnetised wooden panel as an end piece? Could maybe put magnetic sheet on it and use it for dead troops or maybe a small dice rolling tray?
Thats pretty sweet idea, i was confused why you magnitized every mini individually but then i saw what you were doing haha, hopefully would like to see an update on how you solve your bottom problem !
Take advantage of the magnetic sheet by making a bottom that slides into the gap and is lined with magnets on each side to hold itself in place, maybe? You probably wouldn't want it to be completely flat because it'd be difficult to remove, but you probably also wouldn't want it to have a protruding handle because then the case wouldn't lie flat on that side, so maybe a recessed grabby bit? Also I don't mean to come across as a scold but please wear gloves when using UV resin. That stuff will seep under your skin, harden from the UV in sunlight, and your body will react by developing an allergy.
I’m sure it’s already been suggested but why don’t you sink some magnets into the does and just have an end piece that magnetises on that you pop off when you game
I don't understand why you didn't put two hinges and a bottom seems like an easier solution. Yes you would need to hide the hinges inside the box, but it doesn't seem too difficult with terrain
Tinyhammer is as old as epic, but I prefer to keep them squads in multi bases so they stand for themselves. The magnets are not worthy the hassle, I believe. And multibasing allows people for more play oportunities that aren't tied to this setup So I copied the style of tiny warhammmer from a guy named skullhamma
Cause LI is a huge game, on a Real 6x4, Im playing 40k Or heresy using the minis and scaled it down to the same size as full size heresy, just a tiny board and tiny minis :)

I wonder if they could do prints of the Adeptus Titanicus data cards. Then I can magnetize the markers and not worry about them traveling.
Great JOB NOW Stain the Damn Wood you Putz!!! The man Has 3 Painters and Paints everything Except the Damn CASE!!!
Make a tiny heresy battle report. It is required.
That could be quite funny....
Use some tiny dice to count all the wounds
@@patticusfinch139 I think the smallest I have in my collection are around 5mm.

I'm just getting into Warmaster mate. Check out Forest Dragon and Minirat for awesome stls
Honestly just play Imperialis, its a much better ruleset than 40k is. That said this would be great for HH

You said the magnet sheet was custom, could I ask what size, and if they are likely to make more? Very much interested in doing this exact thing
That is much more likely to be played than the other 40k stuff.
Make the cover for the bottom opening of your folding case a magnetized piece.
You need three pieces of wood to make the bottom of the board/case. The 3rd is the width of the gap and placed in the middle of the 2 bigger panels, then hinge them all. The end pieces of the middle piece should be triangular to seal the carry case when closed.
Totally get you. Essentially a double hinge system

You could drill some magnet holes into the bottom of it and magnetise a piece of wood and put little walls around it to make a portable dice tray
The advert around 7 mins in is a work of art.
The odds of me getting back into 40k is about the same as me buying them.

The sleeve could double as a dice tray so you dont need to risk the big dice rolling next to the tiny models. it could hook on to the side when its not on the bottom
I absolutely adore the idea of making the models have individual, in scale bases. its not legions imperialis, its just tiny portable warhammer!
Great proof of concept. I’ll be picking up some magnets from your sponsor! Cheers✌🏻

The magnets are super strong. I wouldn’t be worried… however it’s also not exactly a finished product. Needs a little something something

I thought it would be cool if the egdes were triangles and you had a dedicated bottom and a top. I really enjoyed this video and its creativity.

Moar Magnets 😅
Next time you stream a tournament you should make table 1 play on that 😂
Imagine the space space if 40K was this size! Could fit 400 players in the space of 100! 😝
Would certainly make 100 player events cheaper to run for you 😂

Looks great , I'd love to get into legions imperialis but concerned about how long the game will be supported by gw
Fair concern. Feel like I’ve future proofed it with this though ;)
It won't be supported when content creators show themselves to be so risk averse to playing it. My disappointment is immeasurable.
If you like a game, official support shouldn't stop you from enjoying it. I still collect, paint, and play BFG.
thats pretty cool! the open slot in the back should be an easy fix! thnx for the cool video
Thanks for watching, really glad you enjoyed it :)
Super cool idea! Well executed
Glad you think so!
Ill have to copy the terrain painting trick. Looked really easy and came out good.

What about inches conversion for movements and range?
That’s outstanding!!!!
Awesome. But, you could have cut some grooves and made the bottom piece just slip in. Either one big piece or two short ones.
I assumed that this was the only reason that anyone bought it

Magentic battlemats and scenery bases should just be standard at this point, I hate to see scenery pieces being nudged mid game.

What a waste of a starter set while people who really want the game are still waiting for theirs.
what a waste of a comment, let people hobby how they want.
If you think building, painting the contents and making a custom board is a waste then you're hobbying wrong pal.
Sounds pretty petty to be crying about someone building and basing a starter set they purchased. 12k printers are out there 😂
