  • 1. It can play more than one note so you don't need friends
    2. It's easy to sound good even as a cat
    3. It's the best learning tool for music, even non-pianists have to take up the piano if they're serious about learning music
    4. Most of the great composers are peeuhnists
    5. Electric Keyboards are making it possible to play all other instruments from the comfort of your piano
Don't try to deny it my fellow musicians, the truth is black and white.

Some more reasons why piano is the greatest:
    1. Super portable. You can just pack up your Steinway in your backpack and take it anywhere.
    2. The rich vibrato you get from piano is unmatched by any instrument.
    3. Pianos are super easy to tune. Anybody can do it!

The ORGAN is the king of all instruments and here is why:-
    1. It can play more than one note, so you don't need friends. It can also play a wider range of notes than the piano, and you also play with both hands and both feet, so you can play EVEN more notes and EVEN more lines simultaneously and on your own.
    2. It's easy to sound good. Arguably, organ is even easier than piano. On piano, if you hit a note too hard, or you try to play a tune and hit the keys uneven, it's will make a harsh, ugly or uneven sound. Organ keyboards aren't touch sensitive, so this isn't something you have to worry about.
    3. It's the best learning tool for music - it teaches you literally all the skills you might learn from piano and more. From a piano, you can learn about harmony, sure, piano is great for your sight reading. Organ teaches you all that in the same way, plus it teaches you about sound combinations, harmonics, the physics behind music, it's great for your understanding of harmony, it's great for your sight reading (typically, organ sheet music is printed on three lines instead of two - 1 for your right hand, 1 for your left hand, 1 for your feet), and it's also great for your coordination and mental processing, since it's quite a bit more complicated in comparison to other instruments. So why are all serious musicians forced to learn piano instead of organ? Is it not obvious? Pianos are everywhere and they're very easily accessible for practice. Organs, less so.
    4. Many great composers are organists. From the greatest composer of all time, J.S. Bach, who founded all of Western Music as we know it, to Handel, Purcell, Pachelbel, Mendelssohn, Messaien, Liszt, Elgar, Saint-Saens -- they were all organists.
    5. Organs have a variety of 'stops', each of which produces a different sound quality and tone quality - in other words, if you like the flute, you pull out the flute stop, you like the clarinet, then you have a clarinet right there, and then they can combine together to sound like a full orchestra. Organs can produce the quietest, most intimately beautiful sounds, to the loudest, most regal sounds. You can convincingly play orchestral pieces on organ with relatively little effort. Larger organs have well over 100 stops, with over 10,000 pipes, which, when combined together make the most insanely loud sounds, but you can pick and choose your stops and do solos and duets. You have multiple keyboards so you can set each one up with a different sound to make all this easier. The diversity and versatility is much greater than on piano.
    6. If you play organ, it's really easy to teach yourself piano to a high level, and the majority of organists, myself included also play piano to a high level. Transferring skills from organ to piano are quite easy. Transferring skills from piano to organ however, is much harder - you have to learn to read three lines of sheet music at ones; you have to coordinate playing with both hands and both feet, which is very difficult at first; you have to learn how the organ works; you have to learn how stops work, how to choose stops - this is called 'registration' and the art of registration is something that organists spend their entire lives attempting to master. When transferring from organ to piano, all you have to learn is how to operate a sustain pedal and how to play evenly on a touch sensitive keyboard.
    7. After all, the piano is nothing more than a percussion instrument. It can produce one sound, and that is the sound of little hammer hitting strings. There is so much more to the organ.
    8. Organs are found in incredibly beautiful surroundings and the instruments themselves are quite often the most stunning architectural pieces of art.
    9. The organ has existed for significantly longer than the piano. The complex technology that goes into building an organ is immense, much greater than that of a piano, and the technology is still evolving and improving to this day. The earliest organs, however, were developed well over a millennium ago. The piano didn't even exist until the beginning of the 18th century, and then, it was never used because it sounded awful and didn't at all resemble the modern piano. It took many years to be developed to a stage where it sounded good.
I do hope this clears things up.

    • @saulknights6635
      @saulknights6635 7 лет назад +2

I think I've heard the organ referred to as both king and queen.
I quote Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart himself in his letter sent from Augsburg probably to his father, sometime around 17 October 1777:-
      Translation:
Well, tomorrow, I think I'll go and play his organs and then I'll write to you about them them. When I told Mr Stein that I would love to play his organ because the organ was my passion, he was amazed, and said "What? Such a man like you, such a great pianist wants to play such an instrument on which no sweetness, no expression, no gradation from quiet to loud can be conveyed, on which everything is always the same?" -- I replied, "That is complete nonsense! The organ always was, in both my eyes and my ears, the king of all instruments."
It goes on to explain how Herr Stein was skeptical of Mozart's ability, thinking that he'd try and play it like a piano, and apparently, Mozart improvised an excellent prelude and fugue.

Piano is definitely the best instrument for composing. I mean, it's like having a bass and a guitar at the same time. Plus, the layout of a guitar's notes is approximately 100x harder to master. Further, guitar may be the second best instrument for composition; yet piano still has those advantages over guitar.

Most of these apply to the harp too. It’s a seriously under appreciated instrument so let me make a case for the harp:
    1. It can play a huge array of music, and a lot of piano pieces are compatible on a harp too.
    2. It has many different options for sound effects, such as glissandos, knocking on the soundboard or playing flageolets.
    3. It sounds dreamy.
    4. Every string can be played louder or softer depending on how hard you pull it. It’s sound overall is very organic, which some hate but i personally love.
    5. You can ‘break’ the notes to get that nice, angelic harp effect.
    6. You can get it in many different shapes and sizes.
    7. It looks fantastic.
    8. Most of the reasons mentioned in the video: it’s easy to get a good sound out of it, different notes at once, good for playing solo or in an orchestra, it’s easy to understand because of the way the strings are placed and because the c’s and f’s have different colours.
con: it’s expensive. Like really, expensive. So i guess that’s why pianos are more popular

Neat! You my friend, seem to possess a slightly sarcastic sense of humour. This trait makes you stand out among RUclipsrs who rely on editing and randomness.
As a guitarist and bassist let me tell you my point of view.
The amount of chords I can play on six strings is limited and often involves omiting chord tones and remembering visual shapes. The furthest I could go to emulate piano players is to play fingerstyle. A technique that's difficult to learn and master.
Technique-wise I enjoy the intricacies of amount of timbres you can get on string instruments. The sound of plectron is different than finger legato. Not to mention palm muting that is associated with violin pizzicato according to Wikipedia.
I also enjoy the way the string tension can be varied via string bending. I realise that pitch bending is a feature in some keyboards but string bending feels organic.

you can get loads of timbral variety on the piano as well, you just don't achieve it the same way and it's a little more subtle. It's more tied to register, texture, density, and the use of the pedals (though attack and release velocity matter too).
You can also do all sorts of cool stuff inside the piano. I recently played a piece written a couple years ago where I "bowed" the strings by coating my fingers and palm with rosin and ran them along rosin-coated fishing line and swirled large marbles around in the low register. Otherworldly sounds that I can't imagine any other instrument being capable of making simply because of how resonant the instrument is.
This whole comment section seems to neglect or not be aware of the capacity of the piano to be prepared in all sorts of wild ways to create new timbres. If you take that into account, the variety offered by the piano is hard to match in my opinion.

Let me throw my two cents in as well. The piano is the only instrument that pretty much maintains it's tuning so well that it becomes the reference for other instruments. Of course, any piano should be tuned according to it's design and situation, but most will stay in tune for at least a number of weeks at a time, rather than minutes or hours. Electronic pianos are always in tune. Learning parts with a standard, true reference rather than a "wiggly" reference like a violin or guitar string simplifies the process. When working with singers, I always suggest they get a keyboard, learn how to at least learn to play their part, and then check their singing pitch against the keyboard. (Hint: the keyboard is singing it right, you might not be.)

    1) piano can only play notes according to the equal temperament tuning, but with other instruments you can always be in tune and have access to the “in between pitches” just try playing he the lion king op on the piano
    2) vibrato sounds weird on the piano
    3) the timbre of individual players sounds nicer, it’s hard to emulate that on a keyboard
    4) pianos are technically always out of tune

  • @NelsonBlakeII
    @NelsonBlakeII 7 лет назад +4

This argument isn't keeping up to date with the advances in guitar. Watch the percussive guitar players that use multiple techniques like tapping, popping, slapping, percussion on guitar and in some cases, 8 strings(allows two handed playing in two registers simultaneously) and the guitar has caught up to the piano as a solo instrument. Then there's the dynamics of how you can play each individual note. With piano, it's only loudness, but with guitar, how you attack the string provides a nearly infinite variance in sound.

    • @benjaminbrown5245
      @benjaminbrown5245 5 лет назад +1

Nelson Blake II Nope. What you said is true to some point, but you got to know that slapping and tapping the board on the guitar, people have been doing that for years and years. That is not anything new. Also the guitar is much easier because little do a lot of poeple know that the piano is the hardest instrument to play why, because with the guitar you can sit and relax with your back on the chiar or couch. You can realx playing it. With the piano though you have to use your whole body to play it why because of the expressiveness that you are having to use. Also pianists have to breath while playing as well. So playing the piano is not just some key tapping and that is all you do. No. The piano is actually one of the hardest to play. Also with guitar O.K. You can sound O.K. With just one guitar. But you are limitted. It is better to have more than one person with you then you will sound better. With a pianist playing though we are expected to bee the ones accompanining the guitar. The piano has a rich sound for that with the guitar, you can not get a rich and full sound like the piano. Yes. You can get base depending on the amps you use, but with the piano you can get that full sounds and the piano with everythting is got covers the whole room. A guitar player and other instruemnts really relie on us to help them out. Remember. We are the kings and queens men/women of the 88s. We get you guitar players out of the rut when you need us. Just face it. Guitar players always relie on pianists to help them out. Choirs as well. You can not acompany a choir with a guitar. With a piano you can. The choir will over power the guitar. The piano is made for this. Also with the piano ,you have a lot of expression that you can not control on the guitar. It is all about yep that is right body useage. Hope this gives you insight about how pianos really work. And then their is the digital piano where we can just take all of your parts and play them on our own.

    #1- same with guitar
#2- same with guitar, at least for learning basic chords and songs
#3- I'll give you that one, though things like transposing are easier on guitar, so learning chords and scales is actually kind of easier. But then you also have more chord voicing options on guitar, which can be seen as both harder to learn, and a one up on the piano in the long run. For example, I can put the same note, in the same octave, twice in a chord....you can't do that on piano. The only way to voice a chord differently on piano is to invert it, or add higher or lower octaves to it. On guitar, I can have a chord go root, 3rd, 5th. Or root, 5th, 3rd....can't do that on piano unless you change the octaves of the notes. I can also make more complex chords based on inversions than I can on piano.
#4- Most modern songwriters and composers are guitarists
#5- Same with guitar, you can do anything with midi...including sounding like a piano
On top of that, guitar can bend notes and add vibrato and do slides, or just be played with a slide. It's more expressive as a lead instrument in that way, and the electric guitar with it's sustain comes closer to horn or violin territory with it's ability to sing, scream, and still go back to playing chords. And the guitar can do it *without* digital samples. The guitar can also be tuned however you want, have more or less strings, and it's extremely portable, and supports singing and other lead instruments well. It's also more percussive and rhythmic than the piano. Hell you can also play rhythm, bass, harmony and melody at the same time on guitar just like piano can (though a little more limited granted). I could play the guitar like a drum too if I wanted, or mix that in with regular playing like some do. I love the piano, and play it.....but guitar is the ultimate jack of all trades instrument hands down. The only downside I'd say is how long it can take to master it or even make a simple lick sound good. But once you do....you've got a lot over many instruments.

Ahh friend, we don't fall too far from the same tree. I also dabble in guitar and love it as well. This video was more an opinion piece/a shoutout to my first love, the piano. • @TomMilleyMusic
      @TomMilleyMusic 7 лет назад +2

Yeah my comment is just for fun really. I mean I do feel that way but I know others can feel different. The piano is great for sure, very accessible and you can do a lot with it. I also would agree with the voice as well. I find I like chords the best when sung. Because you aren't playing a rigid instrument, you can tune each harmony by ear to be more correct intervals than they would be on a piano or guitar, and the harmonies sound more pure to my ears. String sections can do this as well. And obviously how expressive the voice is, though the range is limited but it can increase with training. Plus everyone has their own unique sounding instrument on them at all times with their voice. I think that's pretty cool. My first love and instrument was the sax actually. And it's still one of my favorites, I love it's tone and expressiveness. The violin is up there for me as well. As you might be able to tell, I like instruments that have "singing qualities" to them. But I also love percussion and rhythm....so I dunno....I just love music and all instruments I think lol.
I will say this: when I hear someone play Chopin properly....it can move me more than most things can. Piano *can* have an almost singing like quality to it as well if done well. I find it can take a long time to get that though. Same with guitar I guess, but I feel like it's harder on piano just by the design of it. And like you said, now with digital/midi you can kinda do whatever you want these days.

With the violin, you sound crappy for quite some time. But, with the violin you have a greater variety on how to play. You can play the same note in about 4 different ways (you can play a note that would normally be played on the a string on the d string if you move high up). And this makes the same note sound differently. So you can make a more unique sound if you want

Hey this is so correct. Only one thing I have to mention. We don’t have electric pianos these days. Those were back in the 70s and part of the 80s. We actually use digital pianos these days. Electric pianos were like acoustic pianos and they had hammers to strike tines. Also with an electric piano it did not even sound like a piano. It had a bell like tone. With digital pianos they sound up to now the standard of an acoustic piano. Why because of the sampeling that digitals use to produce the sound. Great work. I do believe that because I am a pianist for living yes. The piano is one of the hardest instruments to play. With the guitar you have to have others bee with you to really sound good. Yes with some skilled guitarests you can get somewhat of a melody but it is an instrument that you can sit and relax or stand and walk around and play. It really does not use that much motion. Also a lot of people don’t realize that piano is actually the hardest to play because you are not just going up to it and pusshing keys. You have to remember body and posture and expression. It is an instrument that you are really playing with your whole body. A lot of people don’t realize this and it takes much more practice to play it. It demands a lot of time. I should say playing piano is not really relaxing I mean if you are hearing it yes. It sounds beautiful and it can relax a person listnening to it, but for those pianists like us it is for sure work. If you get relaxed at the piano, you may fall off of the bench. I mean yes. You want to bee free to move and technique and pedaling. With a guitar you don’t have to do that. You can sit back on the couch and relax with the guitar. But piano you have to bee alert all the time when you are playing it. Controlling the writsts and arm. And fingeres.

Vibraphone is the best instrument. It has the layout of piano, the learning curve is easier than piano. You can also achieve a greater range of sounds.Vibraphones have wheels so you can roll them wherever you want.

#1 Guitar = portable / take it anywhere it fits, you can sing while you play, and can generally play anything and everything / make any sound. Orchestra in a box

I play both piano and guitar, and I'd say that the two are about equal. Piano maximizes the number of notes that are possible at one time, and guitar maximizes the dynamics of sound while still presenting a large number of possible notes at one time. Many have gotten guitars with more than 6 strings in order to allow for further possibilities.
Like top comment said, you can get vibrato on string instruments. Bends, hammer-ons, pull offs, and harmonics aren't a possibility on the piano. Also, due to the same pitches being on several places throughout a guitar and not just one like the piano, this allows further freedom and interpretation in how one plays a song.
The typical guitar has 6 strings, and most of the time you use your other hand to pluck strings, so there's the downside of that, but there's also barring that allows multiple notes to be played on guitar with one finger, which would be very impractical with piano.
Piano is much more practical to understand when teaching music theory of course though. It also is much more practical in general as a starting instrument due to it being very easy to understand- you push a certain button down and a certain sound comes out. Even a toddler could get that concept.
It's all up to what song you're talking about. I'd much rather play the entertainer on a piano than a guitar because of the alternating bassline, but I'd rather play songs with wide intervals between notes on the guitar because of how the guitar itself is structured with it's strings. It all comes down to circumstances.

the reason why i say this is a piano solo is good to listen to no doubt. but there is something alot more personable than a rockstar doing a solo by himself up close to a crowd.

The piano is just my natural talent! In school when I was 11, I had never played the piano before, and the only people that could play ode to joy with both hands, was me and another girl!
Fast forward 2 years later, I’m 13 I can read music, play complex melodies and I’m the top of my class; second top of my year.

Piano is actually the first instrument I started to learn and there's no instrument like it but when it comes to playing other genres of music like blues then a guitar and a harmonica is undeniably way better than piano. So a piano cant really be used to substitute any instrument but its still the most diverse instrument out there.

I play guitar, I got my son a keyboard to help him develop an interest in music, but it is so much fun, no awkward bar chords, waaay easier to embellish chords and to play melody and harmony at the same time, it is actually quite intuative once you realize a few things, definitely not good at it yet, but yes, with just simple chords and melodies you can impress people without knowing much, especially once you realize how all the inversions work, only issue I have with the piano is portability, even a keyboard is awkward to transport, never mind a grand piano, but I guess it beats the pipe organ!

I guess another perk is that you can sort of play anything else with a keyboard.

Personally, I think the Pipe Organ is the best. The deep tones of the pipes, to the trumpet effects in the higher range. It's like a Baroque Synth with really big amps. The reason why the Pipe Organ is so overlooked is because it is huge, and requires way more practice than the Piano.
