I built it once, and I didn't do a good job on it. I'm glad to say that I have built the kit once, but I'm not in a big hurry to build on again. Granted, this video is changing my mind on that :)
This is September 2024, I had partially built it. Many years ago. Then put it aside. I look at box a lot, yet I'm not ready, to get back to, it. Hopefully, will, soon. Cheers.

Well, I don't have a 1:350 but I did get a deal on an AMT TOS re-pop Enterprise and that ugly little Polar Lights TOS Enterprise with all the different versions. I'm carving up the Polar Lights into a Saladin scout class. Fist plastic kit I've picked up since I was 23 or so. So, by God, I'm Building Something! Damn the nacelle seams! Full Speed AHEAD!

When I first saw the movies it was on VHS tapes, and at the time I thought that this ship was mostly white so that's how I painted my kit back in the day. And I can't get over how really beautiful they painted the detailed this model, there is just so much color you can't appreciate until you see it as a model, and WOW you really built yourself a stunning Enterprise! Do you think that you'll built the NX and TOS Enterprise kits as well now that you've got this refit nearly done?
I actually built the TOS Enterprise on the channel - it’s about a year back on my video library. I have an NX 1/350 and definitely want that built sooner than later! Cheers! Phil.

Hard to put a price on such an absolute masterpiece of craftsmanship, but i am not sure i wouldn't try to beg, borrow, or steal enough to pay that price....simply incredible work. I envy you for having such a piece right in front of you, sir. Well done!

It's been fun watching your progression on this marathon build. I have this kit, but I don't have all the extras that I need to get before I start it. But I did wash the parts, and I've done some test fitting. It took me about 3 years to build the 1/350 TOS, so I figure at least twice that for the Refit.😁

I was afraid your microset/microsol may tip with that brush sticking out... its happened to me. Cheap remedy - any hobby spray paint cap (Tamiya the best) with the center void section is perfect to hold your micro bottles to avoid spills... just a thought. Love the build... still not ready for mine...LOL!
Hi Phil...Actually, I do have this model...but my plan is to build the other 20 models I've got first, learning a new skill on each to hone my skills. I consider the 1/350th Enterprise Refit to be the ultimate model kit, so I really want to do a good job on it. I'm planning to light it, 5 pearlescent paint aztek it, photo etch/specialty decal it, and do intricate detailing on the arboretum, rec deck, officer's lounge and shuttle bay. Right now, I'm doing specialty lighting and paint effects on the Razor Crest model I'm building.
Hi Phil. You deserve to be proud of the end result. It looks absolutely beautiful. Also, every time you look at it you will have happy memories of Lou coming over. Its a shame that the hangar deck lights are not working, but that is just one of those things. The lighting kit was a real battle but the result is undeniably amazing. The stand is an issue but I'm sure you will be able to fix it. Those connectors are excellent but a bit fiddly to get just right. This kit is notorious as a pain to build but you have acquitted yourself very well and deserve great credit despite your modesty. My summer project is indeed a 1/350 Enterprise, but the NX-01! I'm just in the process of designing custom circuit boards for the Bussard collector lighting after doing a number of paint tests to find a combination I'm happy with. I've also ordered Lou's paint masks for it - well, on the second attempt. Initially I accidentally ordered a set in 1/1000 scale, doh!
Fantastic!! That beauty was my first love (don't tell my wife that tho). A lighting sequence in a darker enviroment would have been the cherry on top. As an MS patient who has lost a great deal of hand function, I can never do this myself, but I can enjoy other peoples accomplishments with them, Bravo! Liked and subscribed.

Instant, stick-on colored diffusers for windows and other spots that demand colored light and are devilish to paint or tint. A solution with no problem for the nonce. However, I shall be obtaining some soonest.
Still on the dish Phil, weeding masks is a great way to relax. Still not sure how to position forward spotlight from the bridge but getting there use solar res for the windows dries crystal clear
Does look pretty with all the different pearlescent colours. I often dig out a kit from my stash, have a good look and then put it back, lol, the last build I actually finished was a 1/6 scale classic doctor who 4th Doctor tardis.
A fine wrap-up - up to this point. I see you used aftermarket transfers for the sensor band around the saucer section, were the kit supplied ones any good at all, or were there none with the kit?
Forgive me Phil, but your top saucer registries are not properly centered. I'm not sure how it got past you, but I hope you can fix it. Everything to that point has been amazing!
Oh man, Phil, it turned out great! Did you end up making (i can't think of the correct name of it atm) "a frame" for when you joined the Saucer section and Nacelles to the Pylons and secondary Hull to keep them straight and aligned perfectly?
@sprueVerse It saddens me to say we can't make it this year. The career changes we decided to make to get off of the truck have made it so that we don't have the vacation time to go to wonderfest this year. I look forward to seeing the pictures and videos you guys post. But I do hope in the next segment you make for this build, that you will provide information for the pole changes you make to the base please.

I have two 1/350 refits in my stash and three 1/537 refits. I built one 1/532 as a warm up to fair quality. I am thinking of building another 1/537 to greater detail. The masks and and all the little 3d do-dads and light add quite a bit of money. Any body have thoughts?
No rush to get all the after market stuff. Take your time - you can start some sun assemblies and pick up replacement parts when budget allows. Cheers!
Hi Phil. I have another 'rookie' question on the lights. Regarding the motor spindles that turn the dome on the front of the nacelles, am I supposed to glue the dome and the spindle? I currently have all the lights running, but the interior dome is not rotating as it should. Thanks in advance for any suggestions on this.
The spindle of the motor should friction fit to the inside dome that has the bars on it. Those bars are either painted by hand, photo etch or black vinyl. You don't glue those parts together. If you send me a quick video to sprueverse@gmail.com I can understand what is wrong. Cheers, Phil
Greetings. I am working on this particular kit, and I need to replace one of the saucer light sets (wire U from the kit). I bought it from Amazon and thus did not have a 'receipt' as per the requirements for Round 2 replacements. I am not gifted to work on electronics myself, so I was wondering if you could suggest an online vendor that I could order a replacement light from. Thanks in advance.

Phil-- first most-- your "giddiness" is well understandable! We are all fans of one degree or another. I am as big a fan of the ships as any crew or cast member. As for using XLR connectors-- no offense to Steve, but they are monstrous for the job they do. You are also mating metal to plastic, which is never a balanced battle. The plastic loses. Also you are damned and doomed to place the electronics in the body of the model. Only 4 connections accounts for power and maybe 2 other specialties. That lighting kit is wonderful and it does things that are very hard to do with simpler boards. But, I believe it assumes that you will be extending the wiring from the base up to the model above. Thus the 20" wiring! But I am surprised the random window lighting isn't brighter. For me, another reason to do one's own lights for that. Also, it seems that the neck is more wiring than lighting... Pity about the hangar deck chase lighting. I want my starships lit up like Christmas trees, everybody awake, busy, busy, busy. I also want 3600-degree K lighting. I don't care what the future holds. Incandescent lights were good enough for DesiLu, it's good enough for me. Livery -- next time I highly recommend measuring things out-- find centerlines, use a ruler or compass to establish left and right-- add small bits of tape, perhaps triangles, to establish limits. With a good top coat of clear, you can use a soft pencil to put down marks. Erase with a soft vinyl eraser. Don't trust to surface markings altogether-- a good start but on compound curve shapes, can be confusing. Lovely, lovely work-- hard to do a bad job with this much effort and interest (and Lou!). Looking very much forward to the next!

They are in the later release kits. I’m of the opinion that the decals supplied with kits are not great. They often tear and fall apart very easily.

Phil, going back in time - what clear coat did you use on the Aztec work? (if any).
If you are using pearl or color shifting paints none - otherwise matte.

I agree! They do pop a little more in person but I am disappointed with that aspect.
