A glass lens itself may be very resistant to scratches, but the mirror coating on it won't be. The glass lenses made by Costa actually have the mirror coating on the inside surface of the lens, which is why it wasn't damaged in that demonstration you did. If you tried the same thing on a mirrored lens made by a different company the mirror would get scratched up and make the lenses unusable.
ALWAYS WEAR POLARIZED SUNGLASSES. I'm very glad you guys recommend POLARIZED lenses to people. It can't be stressed enough. Non-polarized sunglasses with tint will dilate your pupils without providing any UV protection. The UV eye damage is greater than simply not wearing sunglasses. It's a 1 way ticket to cataracts, macular degeneration, and other eye disorders. (I'm just a student BSN but I think it's an important topic).
@@monaglewoodcrafts You'd be surprised how much UV is coming through even in overcast weather, I'd still strongly recommend polarized. For $50 bucks more you're saving yourself long-term irreversible cornea damage and or a painful case of photokeratitis(essentially sunburn on the eye). As this first commenter mentioned non polarized sunglasses dilate your pupils and then they're soaking up more UV. This is damaging even if you're not looking directly at the sun and just getting hit with water glare. I've had quite a few patients come in with photokeratitis from not wearing polarized lenses while fishing, boating, skiing/snowboarding/snowshoeing, even just going to SeaWorld and staring at the water for too long.
I think the glass gives a slightly better picture than plastic; plastics have come a long way though. Ive seen a few of these fishing sun glass videos, this one is the best so far. Costa, Oakley, and Smith are all I use.
Nice video! I will say a proper adjustment can also help reduce slipping of glasses. Vuarnet also has a nice tacky bridge on their newest racing 1918 model and only uses glass lenses! Gray lenses can also be color shifted based on the mirror applied, such that a gray lens with a red mirror will have a strong shift to blue (also great for deep water)! Overall great stuff! Nice work!

Great video but I think tint is another factor. The last pair of polarized glasses I bought are awesome... at high noon. If the ambient light is not blazing they are a distraction to wear. I tried them on in store and liked the fit and assumed once I got them out in real daylight the tint would not be an issue. It was.
Do you think the green mirrored lens with brown base is suited for everyday activities outside of fishing? Like biking or hiking. I want sunglasses that aren’t too dark or too bright.
I've been wearing a green mirrored lens lately and it is light. It is not as dark as my blue mirrored. It helps with mid summer sun but I prefer the blue for mid summer. Everyrhing else, they work well.
Marlene Hall several companies make prescription sunglasses. I have a pair Maui Jim's in my lens Rx. I also have a pair of Cocoons that fit over your regular glasses. They have many styles based on the size of your lens.
This might help.... I purchased a pair of Costa Del Mars,,,, Polarized for fishing, I left them under the windshield in my boat in the sun to go snorkeling for a couple hours... I came back in the boat after snorkeling and the frames warped from the sun... I called Costa Del Mar customer service for warranty and THEY WOULD NOT COVER THEM for being left in the sun.......... Really?? Sun glasses that cant be left in the sun....... SO, I purchased a pair of Maui Jim polarized and have never bought another brand ever since.. real glass polarized lenses,, the rose colored lenses are my personal favorite for fishing,, the visibility thru water is stunning.. have left them in the sun, on the dash of my boat, the dash of my car and NEVER WARP..... Just sharing my experiences with glasses..
Thanks for sharing. I always thought very highly of Costas so that’s great to know! I myself use a rose glass base on a silver mirror in the aussie brand MAKO. Made in japan. Only chose silver mirror because I liked the look of it more than the other mirrors
Green Mirror Front Lens, Amber Inside Lens - polarized glasses with these lenses are ideal for inshore and shallow water fishing. This is the best color combo for sight fishing on the flats.
Hello my name is Cesar,i am from Cleveland Ohio,j have a pair of costas, the Reeftons,on one of my lens saids "Costa"and not 580G,can you or some one tell me what thats mean?thank you
Tony, I just saw an advertisement for a brand called Honest Crate and they use the penny scratch test part of this video as part of their advertisement. You were sratching Costas and they are selling some other cheap crap but you were in their ad. Just a heads up they stole your video.
Very good song at the end :) when I go bass pro shop at tsawwessen, delta, bc. I love the music concept all country music, it really suits the environment :)

I got a pair of ray bands and they scratched up super fast, super disappointed. Also the sweat from my face corroded the bottom of the frames within a month. I’ve had Oakley’s that last me almost a year with me being careful. Raybands lasted me about 3 months if that. I’m looking for a cheaper pair of glasses that are polarized.
Probably fake. My Raybans are made in Italy . Had them for a few years. Lens still crystal clear and no damage at all. Still like new and k wear them daily while I drive a big truck. Either yours are fake or you just don’t know how to look after stuff
Be careful about buying wrap arounds. If air can’t circulate behind them, they tend to fog up. I’ve tried dozens of anti-fog products and nothing works for more that 15 minutes.
costa del mar x-frames fit best. then they stopped making them. wave-killer then stopped making them... they were similar to eye-sockets from x- manufacturer but they were mirrored glass lenses and I don't understand fashion over function. why stop making something that works... minimum tan lines, glass, non-slip, has holes for lanyards. fits perfect. almost like sketchers, deck shoes. stop changing stuff that works perfectly! I don't want to buy new inventions of the ball/wheel. stuff wears out. can't I just buy same items that hold up for years on end. I just want to replace current not learn how a new product doesn't work and pay a crap load of $ for? GEEZ-US!
junk, don't waste your money, the rubber trim will fall apart in months, customer service is terrible, the rep sounded stoned, avoid way overpriced for for 10 dollar glasses
