We are talking about video games. Anything we get upset about could be considered dumb. We don't like it when people outside of our community do it and we shouldn't do it to each other. With that said, I think we are not being honest with ourselves when we ask why is this an issue. It is not a game but an expansion. Shadowbringers sold 10 Million copies and is lauded as one of the best expansions in FF14 but it is atill an Expansion to FF14. It requires playing some other portion of FF14 before you can play shadowbringers. Also, sequels and expansions are not the same thing. You may be confused if you play Rebirth without playing Remake first, but there is nothing stopping you from buying Rebirth alone and playing it. Furthermore, you could watch a recap video or a playthrough. That is not the same for this expansion. Also, we can't act like TGA's GOTY doesn't matter. There is a reason it has so many live views even at the end. We want to see who wins and it matters.
On behalf of Shadow of the Erdtree I feel it is going to sweep there and if a dlc is beating whole games this year is truly a testament to how much developers have slacked. Creating a subdivision for dlcs specifically is literally just a shadow of the erdtree award it’s pointless. Additionally I have no clue what I’d throw there instead
