- I react to Sadhguru answering a question on why Gurus have beards. I disagree with his answer and give my Raay on why he answers the way he does. How many reasons can you think of not shaving your beard? Well, Sadhguru can think of a couple but I disagree with them all because in case of Sadhguru, the reason behind that beard is pure branding.

Showing facial expressions is a good insight into a human being. If I somehow make this two-way transaction of facial expressions into one way (Beard or something else) then I have more power over the other person.
I think this is the reason why spiritual gurus keep a beard. They have to interact with strangers for a very short time and still establish influence. Beard will only add to the power asymmetry thus increasing the influence.

Actually sadguru is very good at juggling words. He can deliver the most basic teachings in the most complicated ways. Since people find it hard to understand sadguru they feel like- oooo so intoilegent. According to bhagvatam it is already said that people of kaliyoga will accept someone as their guru if he has god good speaking skills.
Why many Sadhus don't cut their hairs is because of a reason. But Sadhguru can't say the reason because he knows that his followers are youth. This maybe the reason why he tells this complicated reason.

Actually this was one of those first things that had me pondering about Sadhguru's stance .He carries himself in a way that is nothing short of a fashion statement .....still him saying about insignificance of looks or attire on multiple occasions left me dissatisfied. May be it's Just to carry his 'guru ' aura...but it still along with his not so scientific facts and over complications made me lose interest in him......Although I guess I am still subscribed to his multiple channels.....

you dont understand at all. We put so much weight in every word that we often dont see what lies beyond the realm of words. In a way those words are controlling us, therefore one has to speak in a way like sadghuru does, because otherwise you cant think outside of the realm of words. Now I dont know if you understand what I am talking about, but I hope you can see a little bit more behind words in general and free yourself from the identifications which are preventing true knowledge and understanding. Regarding the beard thing, Sadhguru’s argument is - “I did not ‘grow’ beard, it grows naturally. I should rather ask you all, why did you cut it?”
There are two points to note in this context. First, this answer is not his original thought but copied from Osho. Osho was asked the same question and Osho gave this exact answer. So this is a proof that Sadhguru has obviously read quite a bit about Osho before entering the market (market study) ;)
Second, he says beard is natural. Well, then nature also made us naked. Then why to wear clothes? Why not stay ‘the way nature made us’? 🤔
Clearly, the reason that “beard is natural” is just a smart play of words to confuse others. The real reason behind keeping a beard is simple - that is what the Baba attire is (as you mentioned in the video). And attire influences the subconscious perception. That’s why he keeps beard. He has nice beard though! (But not nice intentions behind keeping beard)

great work, at least you understand the power of Questioning. many peoples doesn't know how to raise right question. you said, he does not give straight answer. yes, you are absolutely right. you understand exactly 'what is he doing'. i mean marketing and typical dressing sense. he is pitching words like nature, purpose, sensitivity, life, emotion, intellect, consciousness etc. you do understand, how our conscious or sub-conscious mind works. and he understands it too. that's why, he is explaining in this way, so that these words can register into listeners sub-conscious mind. and they can start thinking about it. by the way, lets say, if he gives straight answer or regular answer which we used to listen or expected to listen. than, what is the meaning of that, just waste of time. because even that answer would raise another 100 questions. sadhguru is famous not because some tantar-mantar. he is famous because he manages everything smoothly without loosing direction.

I again agree with the initial analogy of not signifying on how one looks was hypocritical from Sadhguru but the maathbhaar you're referring to as a head gear isn't on point. If you try & study, having your head shaved with no weight on it whatsoever or either having a considerable weight of some kind is necessary to synthesize the spiritual practices. You'll sound even better if you don't miss out such clinical points
Hi Kunal, i would like to put my points in favour of Sadhguru's or anyone who claims to be enlightened or something.
1) Claiming enlightenment is itself a big deal. Not everyone claims that. Like can you? So it might be true somewhere, they might have had some experiences or he might be simply lying, we can't ever know really until we reach there. Right?
2) The reason for you not cutting your beard is very human and logical. So if Sadhguru says he is enlightened , then don't you think he can perceive things beyond logics and reasoning which we might think is illogical,so that doesn't mean Sadhguru will have same reason for not cutting his beard like we do, or for anything else in general, right?
3) Sadhguru making a fashion statement by keeping beard etc, but contradicting himself by saying physical appearance doesn't matter but inner peace or something matters.But teachings are for normal people like us. But to those who claim to be enlightened, logically they don't care if they don't look good.. neither do they care if they do look good like Sadhguru. Either way they are living the life as it is and accepting everything as it.
P.S- I mean Sadhguru might be all wrong since beginning, i dont care seriously, but do think of above points as well, coz you are an intellectual person questioning everything, which is a great thing.
