    • @GAMEOVERttp
      @GAMEOVERttp 11 месяцев назад +1

      Best advise I can give...... stop playing defensive. Your playing too safe. Live training is the time to be testing new things and taking risks, make mistakes learn where openings are. There is a massive difference between playing 'to win' and playing 'to not lose'... playing to win will make your odds 50/50 playing not to lose will drop those odds massively. It also impacts your mindset, so change the mind set. Keep attacking (obviously remember your defense too) but the more you attack the more you will build your level of fitness up you won't get lazy habits and you won't miss technique testing options... if your a beginner defensive play can be because your mind is trying thing of moves and things to do..... practice 3-4 techniques and drill the hell out of them. When the mind goes blank resort to them never let up.

    I'm horrible at takedowns, HORRIBLE. ill have to work on these, but overtime i spar, EVERYONE grabs for the lapel from chest to back of the neck. so that ankle hook or single leg seems the best for me to work on. thanks so much! Im in the same boat as someone below i usually wait for the other to try and take me down then try to counter or pass their guard.

    • @KnightJiuJitsu

      You can still grab the leg if it is part of a counter initiated by the opponent in Judo, correct?

    • @jotarokujo7955
      @jotarokujo7955 7 лет назад +1

      yes correct. You cannot grab the leg for a primary attack (single or double leg) but you can as part of a counter. But as beginner, the trainer concentrate in teaching you hip and sweep tecnique

    • @OlivierTravers
      @OlivierTravers 7 лет назад +3

      Only during ground work. IJF rules 2018: "It is possible to grip the leg only when the two contestants are clearly in newaza and the tachi-waza action has stopped."

    Absolutely love the channel! This is the first channel I’ve ever subscribed to (still working out what that does, exactly).
    As a BJJ newbie whose only martial arts background is TKD as a kid, your videos (particularly this one and the “Lots of Submissions from Closed Guard”) have been inestimably helpful in my beginner’s rolls with guys who want to lovingly show me my place in the pecking order.
    My prof. helpfully teaches in the same “let’s start with this, and improv if s*** goes sideways” manner that you do, and I appreciate you both for it. BJJ is chess meets jazz for me.
    I love the free-flow, one-take bent of your vids. My only request would be: Could you supplement them with more nuanced breakdowns of each technique?
    Just a suggestion from a novice to a prof. whom I’m sure has tons of free time :-)
    At any rate, thanks for improving my game and the game of my new fam. Keep doing you, star.

      I definitely understand the value of adding more detailed breakdowns of the techniques, and from time to time I do. However, I typically intentionally keep things fluid and brief and quick so that

      Thanks again for your response. It’s obvious that you want to spread the joy of the sport/lifestyle, not yourself. That’s the vibe that brought me to BJJ. That, and the fact a 5’7”, 175# guy can finally find his right sport and kick some ass.

    I wrestled in HS and College (Div 2 Umass Lowell). My leg attacks are great for non BJJ and Judo but I had to make major adjustments for both inside and out side penatrations (doubles/highcrotches and singles) or I was just going into their guard or worse fighting off chokes and arm bars. Nice video as usual. Do you think some of this takedowns are usable in mma or street? I have never seen them. Also if you should teach 3 or 5 takedowns for mma/no rules contest which ones do you teach. Mine are: single leg, double leg, body lock and inside/outside trips. Thanks for your teaching.

      Parts of these are applicable for street (the ankle pick without the guard pull fake, the hook sweep, etc.) As for the MMA takedowns that I like, these are some of my favorites: ruclips.net/video/Nb7Vl1ROH_A/видео.html

    As i grey and white belt I’m not sure if I can do any of them. For me I get nervous dong takedowns because I always think what they could do. And that stops or hesitates me.

    Three was a take-down I was taught and practicing earlier this month. Setup is southpaw - right leg and hand forward for both fighters. Right hand is to the back of the opponent's neck and the left hand is on the sleeve of the opponents right hand. Step back and pull down to draw him off balance, drop to the right knee and take the ankle with the right hand. Pull both the left and right ankle in opposite directions to turn the opponent and take him to his back. Whenever I'm shown a technique, I apply it under resistance. If it still works, then good. This technique fails with minimal resistance applied. Not sure if you've seen or done something similar here. Was just curious if it was my execution before ultimately discarding it.

    For a beginner you just need a good Double leg, Single leg and Body lock from side and back. That is enough for the average hobbyist . Wrestling has so many other complex types but those 3 are what I focus on

    Knight Jiu-Jitsu, these takedowns look very useful. I may have to try them because most takedowns that involve using the hips hurt my back because I have to squat. I mostly do osotogari and double osotogari. Do you know any other takedowns like these two I mentioned?

    • @KnightJiuJitsu
      @KnightJiuJitsu  6 лет назад

      I do! I have some history training Judo and wrestling and that’s where most my takedowns come from. Might be time for a follow up video.

      Knight Jiu-Jitsu thanks for the reply, I appreciate it. From the few videos I have seen you give the impression to be a very experienced teacher despite being young. How old are you? (Just out of curiosity, if you don't mind). Let me know if I am bothering you with this question or being imprudent.

    Im very curious about your belt man, I’ve never seen one with a blue bar like that on the ranking side, does it mean something particular? I’ve seen purple belts with a red bar on the ranking side and was told that is for academies where the highest ranking student is a purple belt but is a certified instructor, what’s the blue bar on the black belt mean???

    • @KnightJiuJitsu
      @KnightJiuJitsu  2 года назад +1

      I am a Royce Gracie black belt, and he uses the blue bar instead of the usual red. That is the short version.
