We liked the two helpful tips. Use water when starting up an engine for the first time. The second is keeping your face away from the carburetor during initial start up. Thank you for making your videos and keep them coming!!
Runs very quiet and sounds very solid. The fact that it started easy after you got everything prepped bodes well for the condition of the engine as well. My theory is that a lot of sixes and small 2bbl V-8's from that era were abandoned not because they had major problems but because the owners decided they wanted a more "glamorous" car. And back in the 50's and 60's there were a LOT of glamorous cars. The 2 bbl Y-block eight (239 c.i.) in my '54 Ford was brought back to life several years ago and it still runs quiet and functions reliably. It hadn't run for decades prior to being recommissioned.
Wow !!! Then went much better than last time ... It does sound "electric typewriter" smooth baby.. Can't wait to see it moving under its power !!! Keep at it gents...
Had a 250 L6 in my 71 Maverick. I believe it would survive an atomic blast. One tough engine. Not fast but reliable. Decent on fuel but it suffered with the shakes at idle.
Good tip to use an adjustable wrench on the ear of the alternator. I just dope slapped myself for never thinking of that. I've always used a pry bar against the alternator case, fully aware of the fact that a slip could ruin the case if it suddenly put concentrated pressure on the wrong part of the aluminum. Even though I've never done that, it's always awkward and prone to slipping.
Man, I would love to see yall do some small performance upgrades to this engine. Some old school hot rodding techniques. There is such a following for these engines because there are so many of them. Do a cam swap and shave that head down when you do a valve job. There are even 2 barrel conversions or tri-carb setups. Even t-5 5 speed swaps but they can be on the pricey side…. Its a fun way of getting into the hobby that isnt the same ol’ generic V8 swap that everyone wants to do. There is a nastalgia surrounding these engines….
Good information sir. Thanks for sharing. I love those inline 6s. I did not know about that rod for the throttle linkage. I need to make sure I have one on mine.
@12:37 Is your throttle return spring supposed to be attached to the alternator arm? On some of the Autolite 1100's with the throttle "stabilizer" I see it run to the end of the intake manifold. Which location is correct? Mine is a mess - A too-short throttle return spring with ~3" wire extensions at each end of the spring, with one extension end stuck on the intake manifold.
Why would you ever run straight concentrate coolant unless you are trying to blow the engine? Coolant doesn't transfer heat, it only keeps the water from freezing or boiling. The water does all the work. Never run straight coolant concentrate without water. The engine will overheat and possibly become damaged.
That one was from Rock. I wanted to see what we could do in a pinch. The original size opening was 1.25 and we have a radiator that is 1.50. I think the radiator is for a V8 Falcon or Fairlane.
@@overbuiltautomotive1299 Correct. That's why I NEVER EVER NO NOT EVER DO THAT! It takes a special additive to neutralize the corrosion once the rust begins!
True. BUT, we are only testing the engine. Not putting it on the streets. As you saw, it already had straight water use issues prior to us buying it ; ie the rust in the water pump neck. I use the straight water to sus out leaks in the cooling system on an unknown like that one.Better to have it puke water than coolant, yes? Now that I know that the hoses are shot I'll replace the hoses (remember I said we were going to replace the lower hose). Then run some corrosion killer through the system. Then flush the system and finally add in coolant.
I needed his abilities on camera. I only had him and Darrin. In between takes I was showing him the stuff. He's still been busy on the car. After he watched the window lube video he was out there going at it.

That vintage six is music to my ears. Very nice! The idle mix by ear is old school but it works. Vacuum guage is helpful too for that.
We'll get there. I just wanted to get in the neighborhood. We'll get "in the house" in a future episode.

Yeah, they are on line with the Toyota Hilux.
it’s ALIVE!!!! Love it, and glad to see some L6 action!!!
Hey! There will be more!
The choke line is for exhaust manifold heat to the choke control. It's no vacuum, its only heat.

To anybody that gets a 170-200. Recommend a phenolic spacer to prevent fuel boiling.
Good idea.
Grats Jackson
He is a happy boy.
Inline six Mustangs are awesome!
It's a Falcon. But YEAH!
Oh yeah you're right! None the less I appreciate the 6 cylinder videos. Cheers from Europe

We may end up doing some build stuff to this engine but honestly Jackson wants to move over to a V8 and a 5-speed
This is one bad ass old school 🏫 mechanic 🧑🔧 🙏🙌🏾🐐👍🇺🇸🌹

They are hard to find. I've been looking for a couple of weeks. I do know that this one has been missing for a good while.
@@AutoRestoMod If you find more than one let me know. I also need that c clip that holds the linkage on to the post/stud as well.
"It's alive"! Seems an appropriate comment given its Halloween.
Lol, I was thinking of the movie Frankenstein when I wrote it.
So well spoken like a professional doctor 👨⚕️ 🙏🇺🇸👍🐐❤️🌹👏🏿🙌🏾🇲🇽🇺🇦🇺🇸

Are fuel in Alaska is non ethenol and is clear almost looks like water . Only place I can get the correct formed hoses is Rock Auto.

@@AutoRestoMod Looks like it worked out fine .Sure does run good.
Cool

Great engine…
Yes.
What? You in the bus repair too?
Lord no. Diona has a bus business running kids to a local STEM academy.
When does the engine block begin to rust when you put straight water inside the cooling system?
as soon as you do it

My 1965 mustang 200ci wont Start replaced everything but just cranks the only thing I did electric was bypass the resistor. Need help
Is your distributor backwards?
Jeff, check with David Toth. I'm sure he knows.
Will do.
Wonder if a ford 4.9 would fit
the 4.9 is longer and taller than the 200, so maybe not whitout a few clearance issues ?
It will but it's a tight fit.
Crazy is right. If I were going to anything crazy it would be an Aussie Turbo Barra or 2018 Mustang 2.3 ecoboost.
I'd love to get my hands on a barra to go in my 67 comet wagon, that would be dope !@@AutoRestoMod
