Swapping My Autolite 1100 For A Holley Sniper EFI! - Ford 200 Straight Six Inline 6

  • We finally install my Holley Sniper EFI and get rid of the Autolite 1100 carburetor in my '65 Falcon! We had already installed the new fuel pump and fuel lines, as well as the coolant temperature sensor, so now it was time to get the EFI installed and wired. Although, apparently it's a good idea to run power to the coil...lesson learned.
    Special thanks again to Holley for providing the Sniper EFI kit for our Autolite 1100!

    I used to be a Ford Tech and ran across your video by total accident . The part where you insisted on putting on the hose just cracked me up. I wish more kids wanted to get into the trades like you. Us older people when we go all our experiences and training will go too and it hard to find kids that want to learn let alone work. From a Ford Tech Great job for you both ! .

      You older Ford Techs need to get your kids or grandkids to make content! I wish I could go somewhere and have a legit tech showing how to correctly work on these older engines, wiring harnesses, etc.!

      @@reynaldopadilla7420 Here is the problem and I will put in in perspective and I can sum it up in 5 words from the younger generation. I DONT WANT TO WORK ! Hard to teach somebody something when all they want to do is text play video games and pound the pud. About two weeks ago Mike Roe from Dirty Jobs and Dave Ramsey did a Pod on just this problem. Mike said right now there are over 10,0000.00 jobs in the trades that is millions and they said 7.2 Million males not men they wanted to clear that up ages from 20 up to 50 are down in a basement some where getting supported playing video games that refuse the work. Millions of contractors cannot find people to fill the jobs. One Carpenter in his mid 30s screwed up his knee and cannot work . He said I get calls all the time people wanting work done and he just tells them I am sorry I dont know anybody that wants to work and cant help you. People in the trades , plumbing , contractors , Hvac , Body and paint etc all say YOU DONT NEED ANY EXPERIENCE WILL WILL TRAIN YOU ! Anybody in the trades can make six figures a year ! They just dont want to work! Go go college go into debt $500.000 in student loans and there is no jobs for what they went to school for,. Hard work is a dirty word we are not going to do hard work ! But we got somebody to support us so its basement time and video games and free pizza / I am lazy but I do enjoy working and making money but my body doesnt move like it used to . I do Marine repair and some day soon my knees wont take it being fat doesnt help working on getting that off and getting healthy, My two cents 😊

    I’m currently installing a sniper system on a 71 Camaro and in your last video you answered a question I had about a return line. Nice work. If this project is going to be stationary for a while, you may want to look into cribbing (wood stands) to get your car higher off the ground. It makes a massive difference and is relatively inexpensive and reusable.

    Your an inspiration... After throwing away an E-Street FI unit 7 years ago I thought FI was just all hype.. I have been using a Holly and a FST carb before and after that experience. Both ran far better than the stock quadrajet did back when the car was new, BTW I am the original owner of the 70.. I installed the Sniper unit taking 4 leisurely days and I used the Holly in original tank fuel pump conversion. The Tank was by far the easiest and fastest part of the conversion. Installing the Sniper was like changing carbs.. but handling all the wires, hoses and zip ties took several tries till I got them where I wanted them, At least for now. I started it up in 3 seconds and in 10 seconds it was idling great.. I let it learn the idle and shut it down. I installed the progressive link and reset the controller and then started it up. Turn the key wait 3 seconds for the fuel pump to stop and start.. 2 seconds.. one revolution it starts.. In 10 seconds it corrects for only having fuel on two bbls.. I took it for its first drive.. with no other mods or adjustments... It ran great.. It ran better than when it was new..... It is a Dart 372, ZZ4 roller cam, AL6 ignition..... It runs great, did I say that?? Would I recommend it.. I would.. Will it last a week? A year, 10 years? We will find out..

    The carb is not the bottleneck in the wheezy old Ford 200. The head, with its integrated intake only designed for a single one-barrel carb, that holds that engine back. Really impressive job, anyway. And yes, this will likely be more reliable and efficient, and cold weather drivability will be night and day.

    Nice to see Carl running with the new EFI system. I hope you installed a cover plate over the opening where the old mechanical fuel pump was to keep the oil from leaking out or being squirted out while running. Otherwise nice show . Also don't forget to cover the grounds with some liquid tape or varnish or RTV to prevent them from corroding. Corrosion on grounds can be a very bad thing and cause many electrical problems. In the Future i may do this swap on My Ford F100 . Nice work

    Another good video. The best way to find when a piston is on "compression" (commonly called Top Dead Centre or TDC) is to get a long thin screw driver or piece of fence wire and put it down the spark plug hole. When you wind the engine over by hand the screw driver will move up or down as the piston moves up and down. When it stops moving up the piston is at TDC, if you have the rocker cover off the valves will both be closed.

    • @michaelau5159
      @michaelau5159 3 года назад +1

      @@john0270 I don't know of any traditional engine that the exhaust valve is closed on both TDCs. There is a thing called valve overlap where the vales are both open at TDC (not compression stroke) so the intake helps to scavenge more exhaust gasses out of the cylinder. If both valves are closed on both TDC in a traditional engine you'll have an engine that is severely limited.

    Have any updates? I had a Fitech on my 351 and it bricked itself and have been looking into the sniper. Its awesome to see other people my age working on the classics, especially when most of my friends are into imports. Keep it up!

    I find this annoying as hell to watch... But I am interested in learning about the 200ci straight six... And I think I am realizing that the annoyance I feel is just misplaced sadness that I never got to do something cool like this with my dad. Never even met the guy. Very jealous. Keep plugging away, you two. Savor the journey

    Great video! Thinking about getting one for my ‘63 Futura convertible. Are you going to make an update video about how things have been going with the car since you’ve done the swap? Beautiful car by the way!

      Thank you so much! Yes, we need to do a follow-up video. We honestly haven't been driving a lot, but this summer we're be driving much more, so we'll make sure to do a video talking about how it's been with the Sniper towards the end of the summer. Thanks again!!

    Another great episode. Enjoying your progress. I do have a couple questions about the EFI. First, do you get to keep your original breather/air filter? Second, do you have to replace the distributor? I have a Petronix electronic ignition in my original distributor.
