This is an in-depth introduction to plyometric training. Plyometric training is training that uses the stretch-shortening cycle. This means the muscle lengthens immediately prior to contracting to deliver explosive movement. Plyometric training is useful for athletes, martial artists, regular folk, and anyone that wants to move more quickly and more powerfully.
There is some confusion regarding precisely what plyometric training is/isn't and when to use it. In this video, I explore the optimal rest times between sets, how plyometrics differ from ballistic training, complex training, rate of force production, and more.
Enjoy!

I know, that’s why I love his videos, he makes people realize how much potential they really have.
You can train explosiveness however some people really are more explosive without training
@@user-uj3rh1qr7g like some people are stronger naturally or flexible or have better coordination ...
Anybody can train for it, some people are genetically more explosive without training than others that don't train for it though. I'm kind of one of those, I can not work out for a pretty long time, and my stamina and muscular endurance will go straight to crap, but I'll still be able to sprint short distances, change direction, and jump pretty well, it's just something I've always been able to do.
@@diogofarinha295 definitely agree
The fact you're training outside with snow on the ground without a shirt and a cold barbell shows us all we have no excuse.
There's literally a blizzard out here in canada.
When you move, your body heat increases
@@timthompson6025 yes indeed but some people are too temperature weak.
You can train cold tolerance by doing wimhof meditation before taking cold shower. Always listen to your body when training or trying something new if you feel you need to stop listen.
@@dgundeadforge17 i do occasionally take cold showers. They are ice cold well water. Plus my house is high 40°F to low 50°F in winter. Furnace heats one room. But working out is always nice to stoke the fire. And stay warm.

What do you do to exercise?

All of it. I do all the things.
Everything. Super functional training.

Where's your favourite place to exercise?
The whole universe

The level of research and detail that you go in to sets you apart from other fitness channels. Kudos to you
Really enjoyed that. Thanks Adam.
Also Pistol squats are hard. Pistol squat jump onto a box is very impressive.

Hi Adam, I read your book over the last few days. It really is your channel in book form and captures your philosopy in depth. Congratulations and thank you for all your research!
I am still waiting on the uk release 😢
Oh yeah, I’ve never read any book with so much interest in years.
Bioneers: yes a new video!
Neighbours: that daft bugger is at it again.
Daft bugger..Imma use that cuz I wore out 'dodgy wanker'
I must say the bionier's proprioception and kinesthetic awareness is honestly a work of art not to mention how inspiring it is, keep up the good work mate 💪
3:40 When using a jump rope simply feels too easy
These videos are so well thought out, put together, and are just downright motivating in the most realistic and informed way possible. Thank you so much.
I’m gonna hop my way through Jedi Training now!
You motivated me some time ago to train outside more, not just hike in it. Snow, rain, wind, it all just adds to it now. Great book by the way, really impressive stuff. I've always wanted to know more about plyometrics so thanks for this, I'll get more use out of that box now.
Absolutely brilliant! I appreciate that I discovered your channel this last year and you’ve been super helpful to create a foundation for my own personal training program! You’re inspirational and awesome fitness guru. Thank you for all your videos and helpful tips!
I can’t wait to receive your book! your videos are bar none some of the coolest and most informative videos in the youtube fitness community!
Hey Adam just wanted to say thank you because since im training at home your channel has been my biggest motivation to keep training because obviously I don't have all the options that there are on a gym and that really pushed me against training at home since the beginning, but I have learned a lot with your channel so I have lots of options now to tackle training at home and I really like the general fitness message that you "preach", you really deserve more subs and we all would be real super heroes together haha!
I've been studying to get my personal training certification lately and going back through your videos, it definitely shows that you know what you're talking about.
You explain these concepts in a way that's easy to understand, while also going in-depth enough to give us both the how and the why things work.
Super cool stuff!
I watch your videos while I sip my pre workout before going to the gym. They motivate me to do more than just pick up weights but to actually work my body. Thanks, dude!
Man, you are a beast. I wish there was like a kind of competition for the kind of all-round strength that you have, you would dominate. Maybe you can design one.
Crossfit 😁
@@thestoik5440 oh is that what CrossFit is?
@@saims.2402 kinda. Like a wambo combo of different types. But many get injured doing it because the rules are really laxed (like allowing kipping pull ups. Then crossfitters do those the wrong way and can’t do real pull ups) so its not respected and may cause some to get injured.
Never heard of CrossFit?
American Ninja Warrior baby!
Brilliant video, as always. My girlfriend preordered your book for me for Christmas, and tonight I'll finally have time to start reading. Thank you for sharing all the knowledge you've gained, helping all of us on the journey!
Excellent Video, Keep up the good content on explosiveness/plyometrics/speedwork. It is really helpful. Thanks
Slowly u r becoming a youtube sensation for fitness lovers.... respect from India 🙏
This is going to be useful for many ages to come. I'd venture you're on the cusp of cutting edge science, nearing the fringes. As training methodology continues to evolve, it makes us question the tired dogma many have succumbed to rehashing and repeating. Definitely living up to the channel portmanteau of Bioneer!
I look forward to when Batman starts uploading his videos of "Training to be The Bioneer".
This channel is one of the best on RUclips! The content is amazing.
I really enjoy your channel - keep up the good work. Among other things, I like how serious you're about these topics.
300K! congratulations!! really like your channel, is awesome!
Love the video. Just a tip on depth jumps when trying to minimize ground contact time, utilize minimal knee bend and attack the ground. Think no eccentric. Start attacking down just before impact For good examples check out high jumpers like janik klausen, who has a ridiculous RSI.
I think if he stuck to one discipline, BJJ, Muy Thai, Yoga, Powerlifting pick any... Just one this man would outclass very fast
Can you imagine him in BJJ? Scary stuff, the type of human that weapons were invented for
Better yet, add all of his training methods(Batman training Overcoming Isometrics, etc...) structured to be a BJJ, utilizing his all around training modality to complement his fighting skills. True functional training.
Maybe he could hone his attention onto one discipline, but then again maybe just consider his discipline as "Master of all disciplines". Focus on one, and he loses in another.
@@martinlazarini2653 That's what I was getting at.
@@yes-rq4dg Yes.
And here I was, just wondering if I am in a mood for training today... thank you for this sudden burst of motivation
You and Ironwolf are my favorite channels. Thank you for being such an inspiration to discipline.
being watching you for a few years your training seems have gone to a new level,,,
Congratulations to 300 000 subs. Keep on. You are one of the best and authentic Fitness RUclipsr
Rain, sleet or shine, no matter what conditions are both outside and within, this is more brilliant inspiration to make the most of your surroundings and aim for higher targets within reach with motivated practice.
Brilliant.
Just got your new book yesterday delivered, really looking forward to read it. :)
This channel is such a valuable resource, it's unreal
i like your philosophy cause you just set your own training standards, i can see you're doing it for yourself. This means that a free person want to help other people's minds to get free.
There is no competition but the one with yourself.

You are the man. Thanks for all the inspiration you give me on a daily basis.
The bioneer is the real deal my guy. One of ur best vids! Really makes u think building that mind body connection A1

Such a fascinating subject.
Thank you.
I really enjoyed👏👏👏Best video I've wached about explosive movements❤️
Damn i can barely do two handed plyo pushups and you're doing one handed one. I bet most people watching this don't realize how badass this guy is. He makes it look easy.
Very nice content!
You are far over 9000
Outstanding ability to deliver information both scientificly and commonly understandable 👌
This is the only youtuber I watch on a consistent basis
congrats on 300k much love
I'm just amazed with the knowledge you have. ❤
Can you do a video on how to work all your muscles in body and having even amounts fast twitch slow twitch muscles. Also Having equal coordination, having a balance between flexibility and muscle having a good mind and muscle cordination.(basically having the most well rounded body) And how you could apply all of this to your training. Another thing I think you should touch on is dieting and how the most well rounded body would look like. I know a video that pretty much touches on everything would long but I would watch it all the way through or you can make series instead. Btw I recently subscribed and I absolutely love your vids.
Excited to catch this!
Your videos keep me motivated
your the most fit and knowledgable about fitness guy on the planet idc what anyone says ive been a subbed for a while and have used your vids on bruce lee and many others as my goals for fitness

Just discovered this channel, bloody awesome!👍🙏
Love these vids i train very simular to you great ways to train ..recently found this channel well worth watchin
Hi, thanks for the video. ❤
I will certainly check out the book!
thanks for an amazing video with applicable information, real-world usage and data, and first-person explanations and experience, all without being overly heady and laced with unnecessary Latin and advanced physiology. I mean, you are already stirring up emotions of inadequacy and low self-esteem with your British accent.
Great video as always dude, ive been implementing more plyometric and explosive training recently too mainly due to your videos. Have you ever considered doing videos examining the diet and traing of older athletes? Or the science of what training and diet aids longevity in performance?
Your videos never fail to please.
You are an inspiration
Amazing video
Top notch information👌👍💪
The tone variation training is an interesting idea I've never heard before.

Great video man ! I was wondering if you can make a video about staying super performant with old age ? Keep the good work!
Thank you for this, did Wrestling in high school and have been missong having that explosive energy
Amazing video!
You rock Adam. Thank you so much for this. :)
Your knowledge is crazy, certified.
In regards to rest sets for plyometrics or any power related movements I believe Dr Andy Galpin had mentioned the use of cluster sets as being beneficial. As I interpret cluster sets its the act of doing 3 micro sets of perhaps 3 reps, resting for 30 seconds in between, then after those 3 sets are concluded taking a 2-3 minute rest in between the clusters.
I like the idea of doing it this way because I feel such a lull in training if I only perform 3 box jumps and then sit around for several minutes.
Great info
I thought you were gonna jump with the barbell. I was all, hell no I'm not doing that 😂
I really hope you will do a video on strength and conditioning for mma!
Amazing!!!
6:20 You make it look so easy
This is next level😮
