    Hi Teela, I always learn a lot from your videos, for example, today I learnt that "addict" comes from a Latin word ("addictus"), which probably has the same root as "to add" (i didn't study Latin, so I am just guessing) . Therefore, "to be addicted" means also to be a possession of somebody else (a slave), or a part of something else, as you mentioned. Taking the Greek meaning (logos), present also in Latin Culture, to be addicted to alcohol means to be part of the alcohol concept. I liked very much your interpretation of the words "war = to confuse " , "heal=to make whole" , "heresy= to choose your own belief", and "utopia=look for perfection in a stupid way".

    I think that heresy is not only understood as making a choice but making a "wrong" choice. I really liked you said we must be brave to make our choices despite the crowd opinnion, but in several times we are making wrongs choices and the people are simply warning us to the bad effects of those decisions. BTW, I really liked your accent and your soft and smoothly way to say and explain the words. Best regards from Brazil.

    first thank you so much for helping us to improve our English.
    I believe, war is dangerous and harmful for humanity because it changes the people s' moral, as they forget the kindness, justice and only think about victory.
    in my opinion, addicted to everything prevents our progress. I don t know if, thinking about some bad events all the time, is a kind of addiction or it is just a bad habit, anyway it has some bad effects in our life.

    You chose wonderful words to explain. By the way, being heretic it's unpleasure for others (institution or society), but it's part of the change. If this world would be a utopia (perfect), wouldn't be necessary to be a heretic, right? I enjoy your videos

    • @madsonlimaparente6904
      @madsonlimaparente6904 6 лет назад

      Hi,Teela! Your wonderful explanation is really informative . We see that there's a lot of contradiction if we compare the original meaning of some words to the current usage of them. The meaning have constantly being modified over the years or even when words become part of another language. I'd say that each passing day, new words are naturally built based on the man's modern needs for specific communication or for fill an empty space with something previously unexisted in a language .
      Therefore it's a fact that one word comes from another as if the root would be breaking into smallest specific words nowadays, though this be just one of the several ways of morphing words.

    • @daly5631
      @daly5631 6 лет назад

      I agree with you! In medieval times a heretic was sent to the gallows or burned for going out of the rules, customs or idiosyncrasies of the time. Fortunately, nowadays, we have gained ground because we can express ourselves with more freedom --thanks in part to science and technology.-- However, there are special issues that continue in the trunk because there are those who think that humanity is not prepared to deal with wisdom on some things. In this sense, the word 'heretic' has evolved, thank God.
