I was watching your video again to see how you could have kept the harness fro snapping. I remember when I used to go to pony pulls as a teen and the driver was always able to ease the team into the load. Most of the time you had your horse snap the load like you would if you were getting a vehicle unstuck. Just a thought Julia. 😎👍👍⛄🐎🇺🇸
Julia is so sweet absolutely adorable, I’ve been married nine yrs unfortunately I can’t have children only through IVF because I had cancer, if we do ever have children I hope they’re just like yours beautifully rounded and thoughtful, you’re truly blessed to have such an amazing family they make me proud and I’m just a new viewer (Dan Hurd videos) from across the planet in Australia 🇦🇺 so I can’t imagine how you feel about them they’re gorgeous all of them even 🌹
I used to say those girls have the best dad....but man that dad has the best girls ...mom u surely are called Blessed. very proverb 31 gal!!! love u guys
I was raised in the city I'm 50 years old now but after looking at your videos I wish that I would have been raised off the grid and if I ever come into a lump sum of money I will go off the grid I love your life
This sure brought back good memories. My grandmother farmed 80 acres with one horse named Queenie. Queenie pulled the plow in the spring, the sythe in the fall and hauled logs in the winter. Queenie could be hitched to the draw chains on a log in the bush, then told to go home on her own. My grandmother would keep an eye out for Queenie, go out of the farmhouse, unhitch the log then send the horse back on her own. That horse was what kept food on the table and a fire in the old cookstove.
Those girls need to get to making more spoons! They could sell every one they made I'm sure. I would have taken a maple and also the cherry coffee! Beautiful!!!
I am Sarah n Julia biggest fan. I think they both most similar to each other among the 5 girls. The face, the smile, the skill, the focus and hardwork. Its hard to top them
Jeff, you cut down trees exactly the same way I do! I logged a bunch of my property on my own. Cut down a LOT of trees. Always fell exactly where I wanted them to. The "professionals' all tell me that is not the right way. Works for me. And makes more sens to me than the way they say to do it.
Who needs horse power when you have GIRL POWER! And Jeff already has a harness ring in his ear so you can just hook him right up... wouldn't that make a great video: Jeff pulls 300 pound log with just one ear! I do believe that Julia will be completely remaking that harness with all new leather since she has the talent to do it, and while she's at it she can make a four girl team harness in case you ever need to move the house or something! Always love spending some Saturday morning with you. You guys are super!!
Learning skills like harness maintenance and making would be a useful skill in many different odd things. Letting your girls go through the process of repair, replacement and even remaking an entire harness setup is good practice.
first time come cross your video this is the way our parents bring us up we do things side by side with our parents on the village, God bless your family.
Your girls work harder than a football team, and they are getting the best education any parent can pass along. Love the fact you can laugh at yourself, be dad when need be and a friend when required. These girls think out of he box and nothing is to hard and everything CAN be achieved. WELL DONE TO YOU BOTH.
You all are teaching thouse girls so much. (Sometimes it looks like they are teaching all of you 😁). We owe a lot to the horse we would never have thrived without them.
When I was stationed in Germany, there was a little sawmill near my house that still used a horse to pull logs out of the woods near our village. Pretty cool to see it being used for off grid.
I'm at the edge of my seat so excited watching this amazing young talented girl taking charge and her awesome Family right there with her every single one of you plus you get to laugh so much lol what else does a man need thanks for being great parents Thumbs up my friends
Hi Folks!!😀😀 I just found you guys today. I really love the lifestyle you are living!! Please Please Please do me one favor. Go on You tube and look up the proper way to fell a tree. I'm a logger that has logged for almost 45 years. When you are cutting a tree down. Never make your notch cut more than 1/3 of the way through the tree and never make a slanted back cut. Slanted back cuts do not allow you to leave a proper 10 % of hinge wood and increases the chance of falling backwards. Also look up the reason for not making a slanted back cut. It will show you a lot easier what will happen than I can explain it. Take care and keep enjoying the wonderful life you have created!!😀😀👍👍❤❤ Logger Al
Have your girls look up logging sleds, it will reduce drag and lighten the load for the horse. I would think two straps wrapped in cloth might be good for a less spendy harness.
Rember... when you were a child, and your parents told you we are going to granny's house. That is how it feels when I get a new video from the world's best family, Gridlessness! I want to gift all the girls with a nugget of knowledge... Texas cowboy science says; Smooth is strong... Rigging breaks on a jerk, ( that's why people are a jerk when they do wrong things), slowly ease into the pull intensify the energy so points of stress are not over-loaded by inertia, and not actual load. Breaking, catastrophically, has potential to harm equipment, people, and feelings. ( Yea, I saw how Juilia looked when the rig broke the second time ) Don't get me wrong, I would rather have these 5 kittens than 5 burly Bobs for my logging needs anytime, cuz these girls have heart!. Thank you for sharing during these shut-in times. Agappe love, Richard.
Thanks for the video. MMmmm Bacon on the hoof. Good work on the leather and the use of the horse. 100 plus years ago the horse was a great tool in the bush. Nice to see your family work together.
Elastic tow ropes, keep the same harness, reduce the initial load spike, and transfer the load slowly, keeping the gear and tackle in tack....just a thought. or a whole new harness......either or, a new harness is probably cheaper and more useful anyway. Cheers guy, and girls for awesome videos! Quality over quantity!
It's been a couple of years since we last did it but my family and I like to help out our local Working Horse Club and I chop out dead and dying trees on a friends farm and the horses drag it all out rather than us use the Land Rovers. It's a real treat and aside from them being a bit fussy about the holly bushes it's nice just to have one motor running. I'll admit it's not so fun in the rain when they rub up to you and dribble down your ear but it's all a great memory. I agree some new leather and treat it well before and after use. Logging is hard given the snap and jerk action and whilst the horse will take on the challenge everything needs to be up to the task. If you bull nose the logs they'll go easier. Don't forget they're GREAT for dragging out brash to burn!
I cant say enough how much i enjoy your family. How you get every one involved in every thing that needs to be done. It may be work but you have fun doing it. You and Rose dont shut down the kids dreams you help them grow them. Just awesome.
Like Jeff mentioned that harness is for driving a wheeled vehicle. Pulling harness has a triple thick tug and a neck collar. Not that you can’t use the driving harness, you just have to take it easy as you found out. I started just like Julia with a light harness and had the same setbacks. Keep at it anything that is done with horses is worth it.
Use a small snatch block pulley attach to a tree 8’ off the ground and close to road. Feed the rope through it then to horse. This will pull in a straight line to pulley and then reattach to horse. This will lift end up slightly and get closer to the road without so much stress on the harness. Keep it up!
Your videos are amazing and fun. You have a wonderful family! Thank you for taking the time to share your lives. This is way better then watching "Little House on the Prairie" reruns!
hey hello to France, the country who is lock down!!!!! yours girls grow up verry fast!!! I love yours familly!!! great!!! see you soon!! ( i tried to write inglish but..... !!!!
hey, just subscribed last nite. saw your video of wife and you watching the 4 bears in field and getting the cinnemon bear. on the horse logging one made me think ya ought to get some muscle couples to come there in winter and pull the logs out with a human harness. charge them 200 dollars a day and feed them from your garden produce. l logged with draft horses for over 20 years and had some fun times. your children are going awesone. keep up the momentum. Farmer John
I admire this whole crew, girls, you have done a fabulous job raising Jeff and Rose!!! Seriously, you are a great crew, all with a great deal of talent and responsibility!! You seem to have a great life. God bless.
Love this vid. We did similar with our girls to cut and pull a log to our house build but used a block and tackle. Easier but also a lot of work back and forth etc. The log is now above the kitchen holding up the next floor as well.
He's so fat and out of shape......I wasn't sure who she was talking about at first.
Every video on the internet should start with Rose's smile. The world would be a better place!
👍
Happy life. You can see it on all of them.
Rich Wicklund indeed!
Rich Wicklund i agree with you bro!
May God protect this family from the evil's eye..amin

Beautiful talented ladies, horseys, piggies, Dave and a crushed head!!! Who could ask for more? My life is now complete. I am in ecstasy.
fantastic horse, it did not even jump after the leather ripped!!!

Worklion that’s like towing a car. Build tension slowly. But a good reminder.

I'm waiting to see the rest of Abby & Sarah's lil house. And also the rest of Sarah's Jeep makeover.
Elastic tow ropes, keep the same harness, reduce the initial load spike, and transfer the load slowly, keeping the gear and tackle in tack....just a thought. or a whole new harness......either or, a new harness is probably cheaper and more useful anyway.

You're one of the few people I've seen who cut trees down like I do, slanted to minimize kick back.

Your girls are AMAZING. If you're doing one thing right in life, it's raising them the way you are.
This family should have their own tv show. They’re great and the girls getting stuck in, in all aspects should be inspiring for the younger generation
I love team work, girls are powerful, smart, and full of ideas great family
