@@marsdriver2501 CAS is something you can mitigate where as WoT arty is something you have to CONSTANTLY and ALWAYS deal with knowing it can and will kill you. CAS on the other hand is something that can be avoided by using smokescreens, nearby terrain/buildings, camoflouge(bushes and foliage), and simply paying attention. Lastly another thing that makes arty in WoT worse is the fact WoT isn't a garage based game where you can play multiple tanks. If arty kills you in WoT its far more annoying and painful because you have only one life. In War Thunder if CAS kills you its a slight annoyance before you jump in another tank if given that you have another spawn left.

@@kylestanley7843 In fairness, there are a crapload of cheaters and they play a lot of games. If there are 24 people in a game and 2% of playtime is from cheaters, every other game has a cheater on average, all other things equal. That's not a fun experience and it isn't rare.

yeah but it usually sucks because it flies in a circle around the map, not from the point you clicked it, so it usually ends up being way too far from the map to see anything
squad up with someone. one guy brings a drone, you and potentially the third guy bring artillery and shoot. guy on the drone just says drop/add and the distance "drop 100m". guy on drone is the observer, thats literally how its done irl. it will also be more efficient and less work because the shooters only focus on shooting and the observer only focuses on spotting. also if you have 2 shooters with something like an m109 you could stagger fire to double the fire rate and zero in the range much quicker
what do you mean? if youre referring to how well he ranges he is just using the map grids to count down and across to estimate the initial range. also makes it easier when they sit on the cap
How do you make your range estimates? My friend and I do this but we use triangles and the grid square lengths to estimate distances which works but takes a lot longer than what you're doing.

I'm not at a high enough BR for drones yet. By the way, if you pull, say, a 1.0 tank, (15 cm SIG), to a high tier, can you still access the drones? I'm only up to 6.7, so I'm not sure.
I actually tried mapping out this for the sturmpanzer Long story short it’s very hard to actually do. I used buildings as reference points for artillery strikes but without something to actually aim at to help the calculations it was not consistent at all. Out of the ten or so games I did I got a few lucky kills on open tops. None of my attempts to kill encased tanks worked, although some did get close Without a friend to fly a biplane to spot above its essentially impossible to get consistent kills. You need a spotter period. Or you go to high tier and get a drone like this. Also big cannons take time to reload so enemies move away by the time you fire. And slow velocity makes it very difficult to guess fire. And minor adjustments blast the shells into the next dimension at long distance so it’s not easy 😅 I image if you have a squad of 3 guns and 1 plane that’s well coordinated something might be different. Might not be able to get tanks on the run, but on certain maps (especially open field ones) you could take out heavy tanks with mobile artillery like they did in real life, and you could probably deny point captures if you’re able to lay down enough fire. But really this is a gimmick. It’s much more simple to just run a squad of tanks supporting one another if you really want to win. But it’s very satisfying to get a kill using this 😂 I never moved pass 6.7 Germany so I don’t have a tank that has a drone like this. Maybe it’s a fault viable at high tier with the quick reloads and drone recon. If you can somehow make it efficient spawn camping for helicopters endlessly spamming dud fire rockets might be fun as well haha 😂 Long story short, it’s not effective in war thunder. If you got 10 trained people firing away with mobile artillery cannons then maybe but then who’s gonna capture the points.

all russian bmps with cannons have a FCS that allow them to act as a artillery if needed

The problem with howitzers would be the firing arc. Since they have a very long range you'd need a new way to calculate the indirect fire.
