Does anyone remember us bumping house speakers in our cars back in the 90’s! Kenwood & Pioneer tape decks ruled! Popular subwoofers were Cerwin-Vega house speakers, Rockford Fosgate Punch, EV’s, Alpine, Kicker! Who agrees?! I’m 51 years old now time flies!! Gen “X” Stand-up!!!
Did you know that born to roll is actually a song called jeep as nigga. It has the same exact lyrics , but different beat. I have the record 2 of them.I was A DJ.I always brought 2 of everything.
Squaredance Rap was the 1st song I heard from Sir Mix A Lot. I was 12/13 years old when Sir Mix A Lot released Squaredance Rap. That's the song that made me Mix A Lot fan.
The Taco Bell was closed and torn down about 10-15 years ago on the north end of Broadway and Dicks is towards the south, near the college. Dicks is still there, and busy as ever.great burgers, that we used to get for cheap.
My buddy and I drove down to Seattle from Canada in the late 90s to re-trace this route from the song. What a great adventure, so much fun! Sir Mix-A-Lot is my favorite artist. So unique and authentic. And yes, we stopped and ate at Dick's burger stand.
Seattle in da buildin 💪👍👊.... shout out to Sir Mix A- Lot!!! Check out square dance rap or my Hooptie or Beepers...some more of his popular songs...when you get some time champ 🏆. & ..... nice shirt fam 💯👊 another great reaction episode 😎💯💯👊 ........
Boogie, you checking that fly late 1980s Seattle style. We rocked it different than the LA or East Coast crews. Style. Also, when this video came out, The Bell was all about that 59/79/99 cent value meal. You could get everything on the menu at The Bell for twenty dollars! Keep it real, my man!!
Boog, your reactions are helping me to remember my 20’s! I love it! Plus your reactions justify how good the music was back then. You have a great fresh perspective on it, also! I knew it was great now others will too. Timeless!
“I got a def posse, you got a bunch of dudes”… always cracks me up. 😂 I remember pumping that in my actual hooptie. That POS me and my posse rode around in 😂😂😂. The good old days.
Sir mix a lot -- My Hooptie, Buttermilk Bisquits , Square dance rap. All 3 must listen. I seriously enjoy ur channel old school rap is what I grew up on.
Growing up south of Seattle, this song was legendary. Because of this song one of the first things I did when moving into Seattle was go to Dicks Drive-in. Also, you are absolutely correct about MLK Way...
Another great song from that era. What's fun about that song is the way the singer keeps getting the short end of every scheme he tries to pull. "That Medina's a monster"
I was 14 when I first saw/heard this on a black and white TV on some low rate music video show, and became a Mix-A-Lot fan. Still one of my favorite rap beats. Great reaction Boogie!
From like 79 to about the mid 80s most radio stations wanted NOTHING to do with rap music. And once they did start playing it, it was only a few records or a specific time (like 8-10 fri and sat nights). Some stations went out of their way to make commercials saying they played NO RAP. And even when rap songs were too popular to ignore, they would play terrible edits…especially if it was an R&B song that featured a rapper…they would cut the whole rap part out. It wasn’t until the early 90s that “all Hip-Hop & R&B” stations became mainstream across the country.
Loved Sir-Mix-A-Lot when I was a kid... Finally got a chance to see him live at a rave in Indianapolis back in the day(2001 or 02), opened with Posse On Broadway... Ish was crazy!
Alotta folk's on the west coast, use to use Sir before there nickname!, back in the 80's!, speaking of Too Short, in 84,85,86, His name was Sir Too Short!, then we got hip to Sir Mix Alot in 86, when Square dance rap came out!!!
I was on Broadway at this time when I was younger... Dick's was the hit spot on Broadway. Always something happening there! Keep up the great work Boogie!
Man thank you for this....This is probably my favorite Sir-Mix-Alot song. There is so much great music out there. I'm going to give you a few more. Biz Markie - Just A friend, Arrested Development - Everyday People and/or Mr Wendle, and Run DMC Christmas In Hollis (on Christmas Day)
Yeah man. This is a nice little drive through my hometown! I have good memories from the old Thompsons Point of View and Philly's Best on 23rd Ave. Dick's Drive-In is one of the spots everybody in Seattle goes to at some point!
I remember when I was a young kid sitting with the cassette in the boom box play button and record button pushed in with my finger ready to unpause the pause button to record this song form the radio. Those were the tuff times trying to listen and record music off the radio. We have a Dr. King Dr. here in Milwaukee, Wi. Goes right through the hood.

This is the song that made me a Sir Mix-A-Lot fan. 1989 was a good year! I agree with you, Too Short would’ve been a great feature on this beat. This came out kind of around the same time that Life Is Too Short came out. He’s rapping about cruising Broadway in Seattle. In that line about eating at Dick‘s, he’s referring to Dick‘s burger joint in Seattle.
I’ve been bumpin this shit since it came out in Jr High. It’s a banger when cruisin with at least a 12” in the trunk with 500w. In 2014, I went to Seattle and got to cruise down Broadway, playing this song. We were in a rented minivan, with no aux or Bluetooth. So I had to play it through my phone speakers. But at least I got to play Posse on Broadway, while cruising down Broadway.
