You're right ice t is the first gangsta rapper out the west coast but was also in the movie Breaking. His katence in "six in the morning" set the bar on that hip-hop tempo.
His cadence on 6 in the Mornin is from P.S.K. “What Does It Mean”? by Schoolly D. Ice T admits that and credits that song as the first gangsta rap song. That last part is debatable, but Ice T is on the record as saying that
OG ICE-T. One of my favourite rappers of all time. I don’t listen to too much old rap anymore, except ICE-T. He, and Body Count, are still in my regular rotation. 👊🏻
Ice is one of the first Gangster Rappers, but most consider Schoolly D's Song P.S.K the first actual Gangster Rap record. Most people your age know Schoolly as the rapper who does the theme song for the cartoon Aqua Teen Hunger Force on Adult Swim.
Ice was one of the 1st West Coast MCs to kick the real about that life of gettin' paid doin' dirt. He paid his dues long ago , came up, and did well for himself while schooling many others. Much respect.
Ice-T is also the lead singer in a metal band called Body Count. I’d recommend No Lives Matter, Comfortably Numb, There Goes the Neighborhood, Cop Killer and they didn’t a great cover of Slayer’s Raining Blood.
I remember buying this cassette as a kid in the 80’s. Anyone else remember the incredible album photos on this one?😅 Let’s just say as a young boy, I had my hand full looking at it🤣🔥🤭
Ice does more than rap and act, hell he FRONTS a metal band he started in the early 90s called Body Count. Killer band to react to. And Ice-T has tons of tracks to react too.
Ice T was one of the first gangsta rappers. He was also one of the first people to mix rap and rock with his band Body Count. And he became a household name when their song Cop Killer became a news story. Rap artists like Ice T and 2 Live Crew had their music banned because they were considered dangerous.
The tour Ice-T did to promote his Power album was my very first concert I ever went to back in 1989. He is credited with starting Gangsta Rap though he cites his inspiration as Schoolly D. His autobiography is a great read as well.
I was a huge Ice T fan back in the day. When he dropped his album O.G.-ORIGINAL GANGSTA in 1990, my favorite songs were on the B side. Midnight and Pulse of the Rhyme Flow. You should give that whole album a listen but these two songs I believe match the quality the title track O.G. or New jack hustler. And yes, Ice T was literally the first gangsta rapper on the West Coast.
Back in the day. As a 16 y/o seeing Ice T on cassette cover in his luxury car with a baddie in a string bikini.🤯 It was obvious my man was on another level.
This video is a Hype Williams creation. In the 90's he took rap videos to a cinematic level. Before he was a famous director, he was a painter. That's where he gets all those colorful stylish shots. When him, Busta Rhymes, Missy Elliott, and anyone else with an extravagant personality and music style. Check the movie Belly...
Fun Facts: Ice-T was once a sergeant in the military, after he left he started a high end jewelry heist ring using tactics he learned in the military. After his crew started getting busted he took some of his money and started his rap career.
Ice -T is the ORIGINAL GANGSTER --- He is the first gangsta rapper and also the olderst Rapper -- He is 66 years old. His first song was Reckless from the motive Breaking. He was 28 when he released his first Song.
I saw him live in a small club in Ottawa Ontario Canada's very first ever rap concert in 1989, when he was touring the album this track was on (Power). I.still have the T shirt with the album cover pic on it. My mom hated that T shirt, lol, if you look at the album cover you'll know why. The opening acts were Rhyme Syndicate and King Tee, what a show!
Tha dope thing back then wuz how unified Hip-Hop wuz. U'd c every1 in each other's videos & features on their albums....& they kut out tha part where Ice disses LL.
I bought this 12" single when it came out. His girl Darlene was on the cover in a bikini lookin 🔥! She's also dancing in this video. Your next Ice-T video should be "New Jack Hustler". The song is hard, and featured in the movie New Jack City.
1st LA rapper to make it, 1st gangster rapper yes, but he himself says the first gangster rap song was "PSK" by Schooly D (which I still have the original tape of the album!). For those of us in our 50's, we saw him first in Breakdance the movie. I love his first and second albums, but his album OG is an absolute back to back track banger - one of the best 20 Hip Hop albums ever. AAaaand if you really want to do a mad crazy reaction, do "Cop Killer" from his band Bodycount (and look the mental history of that song and what it did)
the main rapper from the group house of pain, EVERLAST, was part of ice t crew THE RHYME SYNDACITE in like 86/87 before he went solo and the on the 90s formed his own group house of pain
The first Ice-T song I heard was "The Girl Tried to Kill Me", which is a hilariously dirty storytelling rap/rock song. In retrospect it was kind of a precursor to his later work with Body Count.
Ice T was a break dancer in the Breakin movie, and I think he did rap then, but he wasn't releasing stuff until the mid 80s. The guys at the beginning were on Sugarhill and Enjoy Records around 1979/1980. Also Fatback Band's 'King Tim III' from 1979 was an early rap tune.
"Gangsta Rap" started cos of Ice-T if I'm not mistaken....but the term "Gangsta Rap" didn't come out until later..they just called it reality. I think the label Gangsta Rap was from the media/record exects? I may be wrong...but as a fan of rap i didn't hear of that term until the 90s. "Six in tha Mornin'" is a must!!! Great reaction bro!!
Ice T albums in order - RHYME PAYS - POWER - ICEBERG - HOME INVASION - ORIGINAL GANGSTER - VI RETURN OF THE REAL - SEVEN DEADLY SINS - GANGSTER RAP Ice T was the first ever artist to incorporate true life crime story’s in rap/ hiphop making him the gangster rap inventor
If I'm not mistaken this is Ice-T's album Colors. The song Colors on the album is theme song for the movie Colors from back in the day. The movie is about the L.A. gang and police life's. Good flick you should check it out
Ice T from LA and Schooly D from Philly are both the originators of what became 'gangsta rap' on vinyl 100% but certainly not the first actual rappers - Listen to '6 in tha mornin' from Rhyme pays followed instantly by 'midnight' from the OG album for the best gangsta movie tracks ever
You might notice a bit of a diss to LL Cool J in this one. It didn't result in as big of a diss battle was the one LL had with Kool Moe Dee, but there was a little bit of back and forth between the two in their songs.
Ice-T had a non released diss song called "remote control" I heard it in a mixtape and basically he's clowning on LL's song "Radio" I wish it was a single cuz it was pretty funny
Hello YOUNG KING STAY WITH 80 TO THE 90 WE GOT ÀLOT FOR YOU APPRECIATE YOU
You might as well do 6 n The Morning if you’re doing Ice-T. The way he told the story had me hooked as a 12 year old.

Yes, definitely he is connecting the parallels between dope and selling records. You good.
You're right ice t is the first gangsta rapper out the west coast but was also in the movie Breaking. His katence in "six in the morning" set the bar on that hip-hop tempo.

OG ICE-T. One of my favourite rappers of all time. I don’t listen to too much old rap anymore, except ICE-T. He, and Body Count, are still in my regular rotation. 👊🏻
Ice-T is a class act and that voice, killer.
Ice is one of the first Gangster Rappers, but most consider Schoolly D's Song P.S.K the first actual Gangster Rap record. Most people your age know Schoolly as the rapper who does the theme song for the cartoon Aqua Teen Hunger Force on Adult Swim.
Saturday night
Even Ice gives it up to Schooly D and PSK as coming first.
Ice's "Six in the Morning" was an early gangster track.
Ice was one of the 1st West Coast MCs to kick the real about that life of gettin' paid doin' dirt. He paid his dues long ago , came up, and did well for himself while schooling many others. Much respect.
Beat and refrain are from PUSHER MAN - CURTIS MAYFIELD 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Ice T was the first rapper to cross over to metal and punk rock
Another great song from Ice-T to review is "Lethal weapon".
Yeah Ice-T was like the first West Coast rapper with a gangster vibe that I knew of.
.......T was east coast my dude
Black Sheep-Flavor of the Month
Who's a Black Sheep?
Nah bruh, it was a good song but nah bruh lol
1984...ICE T had a hit called Reckless, back when break dancing was in and he was in NYC.
Ice-T is also the lead singer in a metal band called Body Count. I’d recommend No Lives Matter, Comfortably Numb, There Goes the Neighborhood, Cop Killer and they didn’t a great cover of Slayer’s Raining Blood.
Ice T - "High Roller" & "Power" are a must!!
also "6 in the Morning" & "Squeeze the Trigger"
"6 n the Morning" was the first truly gangster track, and Rhyme Pays is the first gangster album in 1987. He is the OG period
Park side killers
5 2
That Curtis Mayfield sample is too clean.
Just made my brain jump to Curtis Mayfield Super Fly - mainly Freddie's Dead and Pusherman
Never heard this sooooo good!! Ice T looks amazing.. such swag
I remember buying this cassette as a kid in the 80’s. Anyone else remember the incredible album photos on this one?😅 Let’s just say as a young boy, I had my hand full looking at it🤣🔥🤭
Ice T - colors. great movie great song.

Ice does more than rap and act, hell he FRONTS a metal band he started in the early 90s called Body Count. Killer band to react to. And Ice-T has tons of tracks to react too.

Him and Too $hort were a couple of the first off the West Coast. Schooly D is one of the first "gangsta" rappers on the east coast.
Ice T has a new song called comfortably numb with his band Bodycount. It's very deep and relative to now.
I still have this original Power cassette and since converting to digital it plays in my car to this day.
Check out Bone thugs in harmony “1st of the month”
Ice-T first hit was called Reckless
You really pumping em out now geez
He’s putting in work…much respect 🫡
Hey that’s how you grow man, gotta be consistent.
The tour Ice-T did to promote his Power album was my very first concert I ever went to back in 1989. He is credited with starting Gangsta Rap though he cites his inspiration as Schoolly D. His autobiography is a great read as well.
Sneak diss from the mighty Ice-T to L.L. Cool J on this piece 😳😅. Letsss get ready to ruuumble! ✊🏽😆

Back in the day. As a 16 y/o seeing Ice T on cassette cover in his luxury car with a baddie in a string bikini.🤯 It was obvious my man was on another level.
Ice T’s “6 In The Morning” is the absolute ORIGINAL West Coast G-rap song. You GOTTA react to that.
Fire 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
This video is a Hype Williams creation. In the 90's he took rap videos to a cinematic level. Before he was a famous director, he was a painter.

ICE T always goes hard. To this day.
