I’ve been stunt riding street bikes and riding dirt bikes for close to 20 years. I consider myself and very good rider. Your ability to explain technique is second to none. 🍻
Since winter never wants to leave northern Utah, I thought I’d uncover and get my bike out in the yard and work on clutch control and slow wheelies like in this video. Half a dozen kills and kick starts over and over(yz250x) front wheel came up ubruptly and as the bike leaned to the side, I put my foot out to catch my balance and slid on the wet grass and leaves and blew my knee out. Torn MCL and meniscus. All about 10ft from the garage door and within 15 min of warming up the engine. Guess I missed something. Still love the vids though.
Tks a lot Rich with your coaching, i enjoy more of riding single track. each drilling of enduro techinique from you now improve my ability to ride dirt bike. feeling great as i started practice your coaching from 2 years ago at 46 years. and by 48 years old now, i master abovei 1st and 2nd drills. would try for the 3rd this week. 🙏

Me and my mates have been using your videos with great success! Only thing is I wish IRC tyres were more available in my country, especially the gekkota gummy as there's lots of rocky terrain here.

So easy to do all of this while watching behind a screen. In the real world, I am still at step 1 on the balance and clutch skills. I think I have the mental part of it down, it's just practicing much much more to convince myself I have the physical skill. Hopefully somewhere along the line these techniques start to be more automatic as opposed to thinking every step in the process. Great vid and pointers as always.
Thanks for watching! Haha! Super easy to watch and imagine doing them! It just takes time! Just like riding away from your truck. Eventually you don't have to think about it!

Best teacher in Tube. When it comes to Elektrobikes without clutch we have to learn different skills I guess. I wonder if it would be possible to perform in Hardenduro without clutch. Who knows ?
great drills! But we all know who the real enduro pro is here, that dog makes those climbs look like cake. All jokes aside, quite possibly the best coaching videos on youtube, keep up the amazing work 🙏
Great drills and good measure if learned anything from previous vid. In addition to these being hard enough to master when training it's completely next level stuff being able to do this in race mode after hours and hours of difficult terrain.
Very nice work. Subbed and I'll be working on my clutch finger tomorrow. I've been riding for 28 years, but I have never trained for specific drills. I'll be starting as a beginner and working through. Thanks!
When you do this, like you say, the goal is to use as little throttle as possible, but, I seem to have to use alot, whether 1st or 2nd gear, although I am on an old 1994 CR80 and I use the brakes and suspension as best I can to help. Although part of my problem is I am a bit handicapped, with no leg strength, so I don't get my feet on the ground, I would probably fall to my knees.
You'll have to have the revs considerably higher on that bike, it doesn't have the grunt of a modern 250/300 to allow you to keep them low. It's gonna be much harder to get that balance given the peaky nature of the smaller engine, if you can afford to switch to something with more linear power you'll find learning a lot easier. If not, keep at it and have fun :-)
@@krazed0451 Nice Comment. I am small, 125 lbs, 5'8" Which I guess is borderline for that bike, gut it halls butt, front end comes up so easy even in higher gears.
@@DADSGETNDOWN They're awesome little bikes, just not really suited to lugging, lol. Not sure which bike to suggest that's pretty light/low, hopefully some others chime in with suggestions :-) I'd suggest a flywheel weight but I don't think any one makes one for the pre 96 models unfortunately.
I love your drills. I can't wait to get my beta back from the shop to get started. I just want to know where you got the enduro dog that made it's appearance about 6:30. Thank you for the content!
Thanks 🙏🏽 dawg! I am using these to start my attempt to dethrone the great ⚡️BB 57⚡️ or maybe just to have fun with my new Husky te300i in the mountains. Do appreciate it.
Tried to jump to the walking behind a wheelie...man the Beta rear fender is fragile! LOL! Rockin the Bobtail!! Do you have any set up videos for the Beta? Jetting, sag settings, bar location, etc?
Such detailed explanations. Even though, I'm pretty sure that I can already do these maneuvers, I don't practice them, and after listening to your instructions, I feel as if I have an even better understanding and ability to do them, now !
Started single trail riding last year, at 42, already existing street rider for many years. Here's a list of things I managed to achieve with less effort than the effort required to master the dirt bike techniques: -getting an engineering degree -staying happily married and raising two kids -obtaining a Private Pilot License (this one was easy) -becoming an amateur powerlifter -investing in stocks and crypto. None of the above was harder for me than trying to clear some wet roots or boulders here in Pacific North West...and I'm already riding an ADV bike on FSRs for years...I might sell the dirt bike in the spring...I was defeated.
Thats a tough one friend. Ive been riding since I was 7. That is a little longer than starting trail riding last year. Haha. These skills take time and effort. I truly hope you don't stop riding!
Amazing video series on slipping the clutch. My question is this, and I’m sure a million people have asked. What is the compression and rebound you choose for the rear shock? My forks I have pretty dialed in as the zip ties around the fork leg show I’m using the full stroke. How about the rear? Have you done a video on suspension? Thanks for everything! My learning curve after riding over forty years has started to climb again!
Lmao just before you said it I was thinking these drills would be extremely difficult with the bike I just picked up with that rekluse clutch 😆 still trying to figure out if I really like it or not
Out of curiosity do you normally use your middle finger for the clutch? If so, that is my preference as well. But, I've always been told that you loose the majority of your grip strength and you should use your index finger. Thoughts???
It looks so easy to get the front wheel in the air. Do you think you can do this with a KTM 690 Enduro? For me it seems that I can´t even compress my front suspension in that way. But first I will keep on training static balance. (I must say that I am not the strongest person with less than 70 kg)
Very good points. Time to practice. Question though… How long can I do these exercises with a four stroke enduro bike before it overheats in 25 C weather (ca 75 F)? Have no fan on it yet.
Cool as always :-) But on a 4stroke like I ride I very often popp my engine out right at the moment where my bike is up and the first correction with the clutch lies ahead. Is it because of my too rough clutch control or just because of the motor characteristic?
You’re a legend…..I always tell myself I’m gonna do your drills but then I just go for a ride lol. What carby do you run? And what would you say is the best carb for a CR500R for trail riding? If you happen to know? 96 engine in CRF450X frame. Great bike. Makes me look better than I actually am lol. ✌🏻 ❤️ your vids bro 👊🏻
Not finished yet. My bike CANNOT do that. I am poor sir. Cannot afford these bikes that are clouds on 2 wheels. Unfortunately I have become old. Bikes, less weight, adjustable shocks ABS. No mixing of gas, Radiators.? So I ask you what would you do?
Hi Rich, From what I see, what you are doing is compresing the front using your right foot, not your hips, am I wrong? Beside that, why using the rear brake, since the bike is on, it will not move backwards. Hope to get the accurate response. King regards Kobi
The inertia from my hips is what is maximizing my suspension compression. Sure I’m driving through with my right foot. I’m driving through with my arms, but hips are where all that power comes from. If you were stationary and just pressed down with your arms and leg, you wouldn’t get nearly as much compression. We also are using our rear brake to increase that same compression. Because the tire is locked in place this allows that energy to go directly to the suspension and not lost and dispersed in the movement of the wheels.
You had 200hrs on the GASGAS factory clutch, wow I’d have never thought it would have taken all that abuse. Do you still have the ec300? And do you like the beta more than the KTM/GASGAS? Which one do you prefer after having both?
Do you run a radiator fan? I'm curious how necessary a fan would be for the slow stuff and the drills since there isn't a lot of air moving over the radiators...
